See, I've been to those regions, and I've seen some vibrant planets. There is no way they were glassed. Glassing a planet refers to trinitite, a glass that is formed in the aftermath of a nuclear detonation. It also infers that the whole of the planet has been rendered uninhabitable by such an action. Simple bombardment, which is what occurred in YC37 was not glassing. No planet has ever been glassed. Not even Starkman Prime, which, while bombarded heavily, was not subject to total nuclear destruction. Worth noting that nuclear weapons are by far not the only way to glass a planet.

Indeed, you just need high enough temperature, that can be achieved, for example, by energy weapons. |

Both of you are correct. However, thermonuclear weapons are by far the most efficient. High energy weapons are subject to thermal bloom as they pass through the atmosphere and will not glass a large area, rather only a small point where the weapon hits.

Actually, no.
Matter-Antimatter annihilation weapons are much much more efficient than relatively primitive nuclear fission or fusion. |

I feel rather stupid for forgetting that. I blame the inordinate amount of alcohol I have had today. All of it sweet and fruity with little umbrellas in the glass. It's okay. Take some time and snacks to get it out of your system. |
