Do you still believe there isn't any viable isk sinks in game? Have a closer look...
A factory recently unrented itself while I had a freighter in production. I recieved no bill, none, and I checked regularly to make sure it was paid up. Yet the factory still unrented itself and stole 1/2 the items needed to make the ship, screwing me out of approximately 6-700m isk.
I petitioned, and got the usual, we can do nothing. Can you do anything? I file very few petitions, basically only stuck ones, and then this one. Yet even on the stuck petitions I get reponses of "we can't do anything".
So there is your isk sink. Send all your employees on permanent vacations please...

Except minerals are assets.
Getting rid of minerals gets rid of assets, which actually causes inflation, and makes ISK less valuable.
If you bought the minerals from an NPC, it would be an ISK sink.
I'd keep petitioning if I were you, because thats just stupid. -- Proud member of the [23].

Then again, its that entire "at the discretion of a GM" thing - I mean I've seen GMs refuse to replace a ship after it magically blew up when the node went down.

When you rent a factory slot after your wallet blinks go to your wallet anyway and open bills and you will see that you have to take care of another bill. I would pay that one too.

all right my bad. though if you knew what should have happenned and it did not then you might have gotten suspicous given the size of the project so i guess in future this is something to look for but then again with the game being constantly patched you might have thought that something changed in game mechanics. i lost either slots or minerals to these things too.

I had this happen to me with a Laboratory. I have been keeping up the payments on 5 slots for 6 months and never miss a payment. Never. I am now one short and my typical group of 5 bills show up in the same hour of the same day, and i never thought anything was wrong. I'm just used to seeing them and paying them, not like i count em every time. But in the end, I lost one due to not receiving a bill payment. This needs looked at, rare as it may be, ccp still owes you a refund....or a nicely built freighter for your troubles.

Its not really a bug.
Ever since game release new players had been having problems to find free factories/labs. The reason was people used to rent all the available ones, so other players/corps couldn't be active in the same station. To prevent this CCP introduced a "anti-hoarding"-rule. The idea was that a lab/factory must be used in every rental period, if not the lab/factory would unrent itself at the end of the period, even if you pay the bills.
Some people still think, if they use the lab/factory once every rental period and they pay the bills on time, everything is fine. But its not, here is a fragment from EVE questions and answers:
Quote:
When a new bill is issued you will get an evemail from the slot's owners and will have one rental period to pay up. If you do not, the slot will become publicly available at the end of the period. If you are manufacturing an item and don't pay the bill, your blueprint will be ejected and you'll lose half the minerals you were using - so be very careful about watching your bills and paying them in time. Note that the slot MUST be active at the time the billing period changes. If not, the slot will be released and be available to the public.
What really happends is, the server checks your factory at the moment you receive a bill. If your factory is unused at that time, it will unrent itself at the end of the rental period, even if you start using your factory a minute later for a long batch and even if you pay all your bills on time.
The "anti-hoarding" rule used to be very effective to free up unused labs/factories, but because the number of labs/factories in each station has been upgraded, its a bit outdated now.
If you know how the "anti-hoarding" rule works, its not that difficult to avoid unexpected unrentings, here are a few tips:
- Never rent more factories then needed, its better to use 2 labs fulltime, then 4 labs half the rental time. It might involve some more planning, but it reduces the chance of unwanted unrentings. Its also more cost-effective. - If you get a bill, check the factory first. If its unused and you don't know when the last usage was ended, this factory might be infected with the "anti-hoarding"-virus. You can still use the factory for short batches if they don't exceed the rental period. Longer batches are a big risk. My advise is to unrent this factory and rent it back again. - If you want to start a long/expensive batch and see you still have a factory rented, but can't remember if it was used or not. Don't use it. Unrent it and rent it again. Its better to spend 40k extra, then to lose 500 mill.
I know it sucks to lose 1/2 of the materials involved, especially when its a freighter.

Could this possbily be another installment of an old popular favorite, the "You-paid-the-bill-too-early-and-we-just-don't-care-to-remember-you-paid-at-all" bug?
Then again, why eat half the materials? If they got used up upon installing the job, all would have been lost. If they got used up at the end of the job, none would have been lost. I sometimes wish someone would take a long hard look at how these factories work and decide on a system that makes some sense and really works. At least some of the time.
