call me old fashioned but after extending downtime to 2 hours (which all credit for actually giving us notice for a change, that was appreciated) we get a 4 hour downtime. Ok I can accept the downtime, something went wrong, its not like its in their intrests to have long downtime.
However a single sticky message on the forum saying we apologise for the 4 hour downtime and maybe an explination of why it took twice as long as advertised, would not go amiss.
People can generally forgive mistakes, but only if an apology is made. To be honest I can't beleive we have not had a little news item saying sorry.

Yes, they should bow down to your feet, kiss them, and then move up to your ass..
What kind of richious stick do you have up your butt? Be glad they took another 2 hours for downtime, because obviously the clusters needed cleaning.. where as they could have left it all stuck up and dirty, to lag you to hell..
Be grateful the GMs/Devs/etc work as hard as they do, or you wouldn't have a game like EVE..
They don't need to apologize for a small slipup as this, if it were me.. I'd put your account on hold, then say "Opps.. but here's your apology.."

I think they apologised before it even happened. I remember hearing an apology about extended downtime yesterday that was going to happen today.
Anyways if it makes you feel better i'll apologise for helping mess up those clusters by playing the game _______________________________________________2005.05.02 03:56:57combatYour Mega Pulse Laser II perfectly strikes Sansha's Battletower, wrecking for 1190.5 damage._ |

i think people forget that we are paying for a service here.
if you were at a restaurant and they told you your food would be ready in an hour then 15 minutes after the hour they told you it would instead take an additional hour AND THEN they don't bring your meal out for another two hours without telling you, something would be seriously wrong.
now image that restaurant has 5000 people in it.
we are the customers here. we are paying for a service. we have every right to question what is going on. now granted, isk refunds for missed productivity and asking for some sort of public appology that all the devs signed is just plain silly. however, a dev CAN take 35 seconds out of their busy schedule and make a small post on the devblog letting the paying customers know what is going on.
i think that is all anybody is really asking for.

I wouldn't worry about it. Of course they're sorry, they don't have to say it every time.

restaraunt logic isn't very straight. its more like...its the only place where you can eat...what would you do then? Ask me nicely and I won't pod you... |

My point is it would take only a matter of minutes for a single person from CCP to pop onto the forums or even post an ingame news item that says "We are sorry for the overrun on the down time. " with a quick xxxxx got in the way or xxx went wrong or simply it took longer than anticipated.
Is a little feedback too much to ask?
When I'm at work and tell someone something will be ready by 2pm as it gets close to 2pm if I don't think I can make the deadline I inform them that, sorry it is taking longer than anticipated heres the new time estimate.
All I ask is a little more feedback on what is happening when they overrun. To be honest, its not just the downtime, its feedback in general that I think is lacking. In some cases CCP have got a lot better, for example we had an advanced warning that the downtime would be 2 hours instead of 1. That made a change.
And in reply to putting my account on hold, well that would just be childish wouldn't it? And yes if they did it by accident I would still expect a "sorry we did it by accident" and would accept that and that would be the end of it.
A little curtousy goes a long way is getting rid of any ill feelings people may have.
and finally, no I don't expect an apology every time they overrun, I accept somethings occasionally take longer than anticipated. But when you say 2 hours and it actually takes 4 hours, double the time, then I feel an quick note would have been useful.

This is rediculous. So ya had a 4 hour down time instead of 2....big friggin deal. In my dealings with CCP, they have been a very gracious and thankful company. They have tried to keep everyone informed and apologized for wrongs done. Are they always perfect?? NO. Are there people who will be still disappointed by their decisions?? YES Are they trying to make this a great game?? YES Would they rather have had a 2 hour down time as opposed to the 4 hours?? Ummm YES! Give them a break man. I swear...some people will complain no matter what.

I can only assume that since you actually noticed or care how long the downtime is that you are either A) a REALLY dediated trader who gets up in the pre-dawn hours to be on when downtime is done or B) Live in europe and dont have a job (why else would you be home in the middle of the day to notice the downtime was extended).
Personally when the downtime happens I am always either asleep or "otherwise occupied" with the wife. If they want to take an extra couple of hours of time when im not going to be online to make the game better for when I AM going to be online, im all for that.

now get down onto a floor again. if you really miss the 2 hours send me your bank account and I'll reward you personally for your lost 2 hours which makes 13$/30day/24h*2h=0.0361 CENT wow, thats a big one, make it 4 cents, I'll gladly pay, now shut up and stop whing about a normal thing like server maintainance.

Edited by: Faxon on 31/07/2003 09:15:13 Why do people have to be so defensive of CCP ?
I think Eve is the best game I have played in years and dont have much cause to complain.
In fact I have no cause at all to complain about yesterday as I was at work.
However those people who were unable to play the game for 3 hours have a right to complain about a lack of apology.
Yes its a complex game, yes CCP do good job.
But this IS a subscription service and they are obliged to keep downtime to a minimum.
Yes the financial loss is nothing but what about people who had days off work and couldnt play ? They have a wasted days holiday! (Unless they have lives outside of eve- apparantly it happens)
On the occassions they really do need to take the servers down they do need to offer real apologies.

I think it's called respect. A 4 hour downtime and no public apology speaks volumes about how CCP believes it can treat it's customers. ItÆs insulting and unprofessional. There are those here that don't give a monkies about CCPÆs attitude perhaps because they too have taken it laying down in other areas of their lives and expect others to stoop to their level. We're paying and beta testing and getting cold shouldered.
Personally I couldn't give a damn about the 4 hours, itÆs their game they can do what they want with it, it's their attitude and silence that bothers me.

well arent ther more important things to do than to appologize? Everyone speaks like downtime is the end of the world...
I prefer downtime rather that crash.

hehe, downtime is normally the only time i eat and drink inbetween my two lives, it technician by day, budding space farer by night. i had that day off and was a bit surprised by the downtime, but none too fussed, it just meant that i eat a bit too much, logic bieng downtime = food time, extended downtime = extended food time, ext ext dt = *feels sick, puts down the 100th cup cake of the morning . big fuss little fuss, both sides have valid points. some flame, some *****. some sit and watch. *****ers get over it flamers go sit in a paddling pool and pour water over yourselves.
now kiss and make up.
ccp loves you
now go play nice. ElRodeo
