A bit of background to begin: I have always been an EW only player. I felt (and still feel) that jamming is exactly the right tactic for my personality and character.
Jamming was a bit spotty, but ok early on (when the multifrequency jammmers were still -8, it worked rather well and i was ery happy with it.
However recently I have noticed, after the multifreq jammers were nerfed to -4, that the base sensor strength of a pirate is much, much higher than that of the same ship when available to players. The dicrepancy is far mor than could be made up with or explained by the most advanced sensor boosting equipment. Even a small pirate, like the blood collector (2,500 bounty) has 12 points of sensors in all ranges. This would require a cruiser or a dedicated noncombatant frigate to jam it, while its frigate counterparts for players (such as the amarr executioner, only have 5 points of sensor strength in radar, not all 4 areas.
Why would a player bother to become an EW specialist when you need a cruiser just to be effective in .7?
Thus far, EW is good only against players, who have normal sensor grids. This means its only useful in piracy or corp wars.
I would like very much to see ECMs become a valuable too for those of us who cannot or simply are not involved in pvp, and I see no reason that NPC pirates should require such enormous sensor strengths.
I urge CCP to nerf the NPC pirates sensor banks, and give people who want to be ECM users a reason to spend time and money developing ECM skills and buying EM warfare ships.

I agree, make the NPCs have ships/stats just like the rest, and while they're at it fix them so their targeting time is the same, right now an NPC gets an instant auto-target on you.

Edited by: Synapse Archae on 01/08/2003 17:22:20 bump. This is a serious flaw for those of us who have invested a lot in EW only to find it useless.

the only concern i would have with doing this is that ccp would then need to code in more modules for the npc pirates to use. As it stands most npcs are no match for the relevant combat classes of ships that they fight. If they are also going to be as vulnerable or close to the same vulnerability to E.W. as pc ships then they also need to be able to use more equipment to defend themselves/break player locks/use shield hardeners/boosters etc. I agree that something needs to be done to improve EW against npcs, but the problem is you will end up with ew boats stopping large fleets of npcs from hitting anyone whilst one combat frigate slowly kill them all. Implementing a change such a large magnitude would necessitate another rejig of npc pirate difficulty levels.

Edited by: Arondos on 02/08/2003 08:01:48 I'm all for the NPC's actually having a lock on time. Sort of ridiculous when they spawn and can blast a heavy drone before you can get a lock (with a 1.3 second lock time).
