Moa powergrid at Engineering level 4 = 900
I then trained engineering to Level 5 and the powergrid only increased to 937.
Surely 900 + 5% = 945?

I think I've figured it out - the 5% increase is an increase of the standard rate.
5% of 750 (base powergrid for Moa) = 37.5.
So, every level of engineering only increases your powergrid by 37.5 points?
750 + (5 x 37.5) = 937.5
Seems sucky to me!

Base powergrid for moa = 750
5% per level, level 5 = 25%
750 x 1.25 = 937.5
Or, to look at it a different way, each level adds 37.5
Level 1 Engineering = 787.50 Lvl2 = 825 lvl3 = 862.5 lvl4 = 900 lvl5 = 937.5
Using your math, at lvl 4, you would have had 911 powergrid.

It's wierd then that these 5%s do not stack. If you look at things like cargo capacity the bonuses are cumulative so that if you have two of the base cargo expanders at 18% each you really do get a 39.24% bonus instead of a 36% bonus...I wonder why they do the math differently for different things?

From what I can figure out, the skill counts only once as a modifier, so with Engineering, 1 becomes 5%, 2 becomes 10%, 3 becomes 15% and so on. Multipliers from different skills and modules are applied seperately, so if you had 20% from engineering 4 and 10% from a power diagnostics, you would really have a 32% bonus.
Don't quote me on that, though.

Skill bonuses never stack like modules :)

Don't skills with the same bonus count seperately too? Basic Skill at 5 and Advanced skill at 3 and 2 boosters with an 18% bonus : Stat * (1+(5*5)) * (1+(5*3)) + bonus1 + bonus2 or Stat * 1.25 * 1.15 * 1.18 * 1.18
