Can't email at the moment as I'm at work with limited web-based email access
The was really only one thing I wanted to say to you anyway:
I have very reluctantly cancelled my account, due to the reasons mentioned in my original post. I hope to be back in the future when Eve has matured to a fully playable state.
However, in the meantime, I URGE you to communicate more openly with the CORE playerbase (the people who frequent this board). People NEED to know what is happening at the moment. The virtual information blackout, and ongoing stability and gameplay issues are really shaking peoples confidence, and the only way you can limit this effect is by clearly communicating to people about "the state of play"...
The LAST thing I want to see is Eve fail...but you and the team need to help yourselves.....take control of the situation before it takes control of you.
And apologies for my caps-littered outburst previously - I just really don't like threads that are locked with no reason given.

Why do you call the people who post on the board the core playerbase? I don't frequently post on this board,,,does that make my input any less important? Do you realize that the people who post on this board should already have quit? The volume of posts that go up while the game is up is staggaring. Why are people posting and not playing? I had issues with getting Eve working on my computer. I didn't spam complaints all over these boards to get it working. I'm sick of people mindlessly ranting and raving on how CCP is doing a poor job. If you don't like it, cancel your subscription and stop wasting bandwith that they have to pay for. |

Not at all - although generally speaking - people who take the time to post on game boards like this one "tend" to be the more hardcore players - although obviously this is not always the case.
No offence meant, everyones views are important - its just that this board is the main point of contact for the dev team.... ------------------------ "The direct use of force is such a poor solution to any problem, it is generally employed only by small children and large nations." ------------------------ |

Take a look, dude, this guy is constructively criticizing CCP in the hopes that they improve.

Maybe this time i can get a word in before it goes *click*... :?
I wouldn't attempt to tell anyone at CCP how to do their job, but there has been a screaming black hole on the information side lately, while at the same time it is quite obvious the game has a serious stability issue. (I wont bother to post links to the various CTD and quit threads)
We need to know what's wrong, simple as that, and we need to know what's being done about it. Right now. If you interpret the above to be more of a demand than a request, you're getting the point.
Oh, and locking a thread without even attempting to give a reason is a bit over the top wouldn't you agree? I mean, sheeesh, sure you guys own this forum and all, but this has an air of censorship to it that neither you nor the players are benefiting from.
Thank you for hearing me out.

I agree... EVE has an insane amount of potential.
But the devs need to take more responsibility for their actions. The players need to be "kept in the loop", and Hilmar needs to be a LOT more careful about checking to make sure that a feature he claims to be in the game *IS ACTUALLY IN* - It honestly doesn't take that long to log in and check the market for item X just before claiming that it's on the market two weeks before any item of the sort appears. (Secure Cargo Containers, which STILL do not exist in the form Hilmar claimed them to be, i.e. larger than jettison containers.)
Back near release, the devs were doing an incredible job of keeping the playerbase informed of what was going on. You guys are slipping in that regard, and the results can be seen in the steadily decreasing number of players online during the Sunday peak every week. Please, you've got a good thing going here, don't foul it up. ---------------- Blue Screen of Death CEO Exodus Enterprises |

Besides... some ppl play this game windowed and try to help and get to know what is happening while they travel... Thus we post while we play...
I really hope we will get more ifo soon... this lack of info is simply frustrating....

vf142rex, I'd say the people leaving quietly are doing EVE far more harm that the people who come here and voice their opinion, be it positive or negative. ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

The only reason I complain is because it annoys me to see the game dying. If I didn't give a damn then I'd just walk away and not say a word. Just like I did with Planetside and various other pay to play games.

I never said that it is bad to voice your opinion. Wouldn't I be a hypocrite if I did? I have seen so many threads complaining about CTD's. What makes you think that multiple threads need to be made? Everybody is having a CTD problem. That doesn't mean that every person who posts on these boards regularly has to join in saying "CCP, DO YOUR JOB AND MAKE IT STOP CRASHING TO DESKTOP!" Isn't this was the ingame bug reporting is for anyway? I can honestly say I don't want the Devs sorting through so many repetetive worthless posts in the hope of finding a good constructive one. I want them to be coding and fixing problems. The very last thing I want is for the morale of the CCP staff drop because the "CORE PLAYERS OF THE GAME" are all complaining on the boards.

That a thread specifically asking for better communication from the community manager can be locked without explanation is just so contemptuous it leaves me feeling a little nauseous

Perhaps there are so many threads about CTDs is that the only (and semi-official at that) response, is that it is our fault and not CCP's

Sad to say it, but if CCP doesn't put more effort into Eve than it's currently doing, this game not going to survive the birth. Playerbase is everything to a game like this, and if that shrinks too much, CCP will soon be out of money to keep the servers running and DEVs on the payroll.

How can you say this game is still in the process of being born?
It's been dropped retail to $20...
From CCP's standpoint, I'm sure they expected higher retail sales than they got, and now they realize that to make money their gonna need to lengthen the game out so they can collect more monthly revenue.
Hence the drops reduction, drying up of trade rootes, and roids, and ultimately the addition of higher tech level items for people to strive for. What I think they didn't expect is the revolt of the player base, instead of playing longer their quitting...
I certainly see fewer players online than before..
The lack of communication in my opinion has always been their, even in beta, but again that's no different with any mmorpg. In the business side of things, I'm sure communication personal are probably the first to hit the road when revenues fall..

Wooord. ;)
I wonder about ppl thinkin they could change the world by paying 10 bucks a month. And i seriously wonder about ppl spending more time on spamming a board than cleaning their teeth. "EVE is dying" and crap - could plz just someone of the devs laugh at that statement?
Anyway, i donŠt have any CTDs. Not a single one. I get along with warp bugs, cargo bugs (2500 of 590m3 filled in a thorax), corp tax, and so on.... And i gotta love it, itŠs such a great piece of art. Ah, i wish all u ppl would realize that this game is not what u expected to be, cause it is not a common MMPOG. ItŠs EVE, nothing else.
uh, sry - got another one:

You seem to mistake my comment for one being in defense of CCP. While what i was really trying to get through is the growing feeling that we're still in beta.

It's dying and that's a fact.
Since the "nightmare patch" 4-5 weeks ago, the number of people online during the "Sunday Peak" has been dropping by 200+ players per week. It was up to 6300-6400, and 4 weeks later was down to 5300-5400. It's probably lower now (2-3 weeks more), unfortunately Eve-I's graphical server status displays are broken right now.
More importantly, retailers have discounted EVE directly from $50 to $20. Succesful games don't get discounted that severely within 4-5 months of release. Look at Diablo 2 - That game is 4-5 YEARS old or more and Blizzard is still selling it for $25-30 a pop. ---------------- Blue Screen of Death CEO Exodus Enterprises |

Edited by: Nicholas Marshal on 05/08/2003 14:53:30 I for one am not playing quite as much as normal due to the SCORCHING weather. In my computer room it gets up to 90 degrees +. It is just too hot.
I bet that quite a few other people are also taking advantage of this hot weather.
I expect server numbers to rise come the winter.

tbf, they don't need dev's looking at these boards, they've got polaris.
Polaris flags a thread that they think is of interest to the Devs, that then goes through a filter and then reaches the devs.
They must be listening, they would be stupid not to - but to not just say "we don't like this idea", "we are thinking about this idea", "this might happen". At least we then feel INVOLVED.

It's the same at my place.
Also, summer is never a peak time for gaming. There are so many better things to do.
I remember the UT scene always went quiet over summer. Summer cups usually had lousy turnouts, and ladder games more oftem than not got ancelled to lack of players.
But they all come back in the autumn.
I mean, look at me! I'm too hot to work right now. I'm just typing this quickly so I can go up to the server room, and wallow in the aircon. .

Although I love this game the numbers speak for themselves as does the fact that they steeply dropped the price. This url is to a graph showing all the MMOG's out there now and current subscription rates.
http://pw1.netcom.com/~sirbruce/Subscriptions.html
Currently Eve is about 45,000 subscribers.
Look at the SWG numbers. In fact most sony games are sucesses not because of quality but because of good advertising.
CCP needed to court the american market but didnt do it well enough. American markets along with Asian markets will make or break a game.

Edited by: Luther Pendragon on 05/08/2003 15:24:21 You mean closer to 50 thousand, not 45, looks like 49 thousand to me. Sounds dubious to me to say the least though, that there are that many.
Eve needs to be repackaged and remarketed, like a second release, when they finnally make the game the way it was intended to be. ____________________________________ Taggart wants YOU. Join TTi! *waves his hand in your face in the jedi way* |

From that site :
C û This indicates that most or all of the data points provided are merely industry ôbest guessesö or are otherwise questionable. Usually, I will not chart MMOGs that rate C or lower. Their numbers should be taken with a large grain of salt.
Eve Online (Confidence Rating: C)
At this time, an unverified press report claims that Eve Online has some 45,000 subscribers.
I don't believe for one second that Eve has close to 50,000 subbies - if they did then they would be making a lot of noise about it.....

Unfortunatly it must be hemoraging ( spelling) customers - new players are joining but look at the numbers online. We topped 5k ages ago, and havent been anywhere near 6k. There is a real danger this game could be still born, its not enough to get new customers in business, you really do have to retain the old. CEO - |

Quite frankly, this game requires thought and RP to make it truely enjoyable. I think you will find that most people quitting lack in one or both of these abilities.
EVE is in it's infancy, it is just over 3 months old and YES, it still has some bugs issues. Considering the complexity of the game, which adds to the enjoyment of it, this is not surprising. Give the DEV's a break people. Before you cancell your subscription, ask yourself if there is any game out there now that runs flawlessly. The answer will be NO.
Having played Everquest for over 3 years, I think the game was more bugged when I left it. The potential for EVE is awesome, and I for one plan on being here for a long time.
