My combat drones have not been going after the next ring rat for the last four days. I now have to target and send the drones after each target, otherwise they just orbit my ship getting shot by the rats. What is up with this - something slip in the code?
Just asking, anyone else seeing this happen?

You pretty much have to tell them what to do after each target or they split up and do all kinds of weird stuff.
Or else they go off in a huge bee swarm and make huge hives in space fyi. BEES BEES LOL.

I'm quite sure this is how it is supposed to work.

What I have noticed is when I tell them to attack a particular target, after a while they get bored and wander off to attack a different target that suddenly takes their fancy without finishing the job I¦d sent them on.

Yes I noticed it too. At least it helps you to prioritise their targets.

Yes prioritizing your targets is good. Of course you have to unlock the 5 roids that you had locked while you were mineing. The lock the rats in order to do this prioritization.

If your drones are out FIRST before rats appear, they will auto acquire targets that shoot you, otherwise you will have to manually bark at them to find your preferred targets. Bear this in mind, if they do auto-acquire, they may not attack the same target. I prefer them to kill a target fast rather than each to a target. You will tend to lose drones this way.

So, I take it that this is a well documented enhancement that I missed, and the drones will no longer acquire additional targets after destroying the one you sent them after. Thus you now have the option to prioritize all of your targets for your drones one at a time. WOW, this is soooo cool, just the bug fix I have been waiting for. Thanks and I did not even have to ask, whine and plead in multiple posts. HEAVY SARCASIM

I haven't had a problem with drones yet. They do auto-target if they're already launched, but as stated above, it's best to just tell them what to attack. They will auto attack once this is done, but unless there is only one target left, they will usually attack more than one thing. It's best to tell your drones what to attack anyways.
All drones one one target = fewer losses than all drones doing their own thing

and wandering drones can get you into trouble. running a 3/10 complex earlier and a lil drone had nothing to do (my fault, I ordered them to attack in the middle of launch-lag, so this one missed it I guess) 12 of its brothers on target, picking off the headmaster while I gun down the frigates. simple. at this point, only about half the lvl had aggroed me, which was perfectly fine, until junior went out to try and attack a single frig by the Other Accel Gate. eventually recalled him (before it got blown away) but that led to every single remaining rat coming in at once. not groovy. Would have rather finished off this group Without ending up halfway through structure. rambling.
remember kids, neuter your drones! its for their own good. orphaned and unwanted drones can be sent to The Shelter, co/ Tekran, where they will live long, productive lives, with lots of open space and deadspace structures to orbit.

well if it doesnt behave when all the targets are dead it gets locked told to orbit my ship and then onces its well behaved brothers are back in my drone bay it gets smartbombed into oblivion.
Quite a useful punishment and it keeps its brothers in line in the next round of combat
