This issue has been pretty bad since Odyssey for me as well, but I've been having this problem off and on for a couple years now.
Prior to Odyssey it was something like a 1:10 chance for the EVE client to start without audio, and having the audio disabled or starting multiple clients up at once seemed to slightly increase the chance of an EVE client starting up without the audio engine. Since Odyssey, however, it's more like a 3:1 chance of starting the client without the audio engine which is a pretty major uptick. Likewise this problem has persisted through me "replacing" my onboard Realtek audio chipset with a Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeMusic I recently acquired.
Hopefully whoever, if anyone, that's looking into this issue will find just what in Odyssey made the situation worse for those like me who've been seeing this for some time and actually fix it, but I'm sure most of us will also take a reversion to the pre-Odyssey lower failure rate. |

before Odyssey, the only audio issues i happened to have, was sound stopped working, and just unticking / reticking audio in property solved the issue (and it was very rare, like once over 2 month, maybe less), now, i sometime even play without sound, cause having to launch 10 time the game is not worth it, especially since more often, sooner or later, audio will go down again, and a clear cache is the only way to have a chance to solve it...)
as i said before, this is nothing to do with your audio device, since the game uses windows audio layer.
what i saw, is that at startup, most of the time, the game doesn't even ask windows for an audio session to be opened.
i do work in audio devices dev, meaning i have personnaly a lot of audio devices available to me (like 50+) and it does not matter wich one is used, the drivers or anything, whether it's my main comp (with all the audio devices) or laptop (with only the intgrated audio), the issue is still happening.
really, what will be the next issue? unable to undock? mouse not working? ccp => Can't Code Properly |

TharOkha wrote:Same problem here. Looks like EVE Client will slide volume bar in windows mixer to zero by itself every time i launch game (launching from launcher) That's not quite the same issue. It sounds(hah) like you have audio settings set to attenuate applications automatically when using a voice chat program. In the sounds control panel, on the communications tab, select "do nothing"
For those who have the issue with the sound system not starting and not showing up in the volume mixer at all, clearing the game cache does fix it for the next restart every time, but it breaks again eventually. Sometimes 10 launches later, sometimes two.
This is still happening, and it is very frustrating. |

After running a repair tool. Not many changes have happened. I have the sounds like the click when i highlight modules and items in my wallet. The sound of the system scanner. The blips when you open the fitting tool. (Occasionally) the sound of stargate jumps. Ambient sound, music and other sounds still do not work. |

For sound not initializing at all at start:
1. Open the volume mixer before opening game
2. Launch from the eve (not the launcher)
3. Before the eve window shows up, click on the sound mixer and move it around
I am not sure why or how....but this has initialized the sound 100% of the time for all three of my clients
This actually works, but how ridiculous is it that I have to play around with the sound mixer every time I launch a client.
It'd be nice to see a Dev acknowledge the fact that this is happening, and that it is a result of the odyssey expansion and that they are actually looking into it.
Problem is still here, ignoring it does not seem to make it go away. |

Soo... A fair few months have gone by with no fix and no Dev or CCP comment? I'm getting sick of having to open my sound mixer every damn time to wiggle it about EVERY time I want to play. |

Same issue happening for me. My first client never has sound, my second one always will. So I basically launch one client, kill it, then launch it again every time I log in to play. Very annoying. |

i ran the repair.exe tool in the eve directory and it seemed to fix the issue for me. i was trying a couple of other tings at the time though so might not have been the definitive fix but fwiw i would give it a shot...

quick update, i had for some personnal reason, to reinstall both my computers.
1st is a desktop(i7 2600k / 16GB ram / gtx670), 2nd is a laptop (MSI GE60 2OE).
after just installing windows + latest drivers + AV + all windows updates, i installed eve from scratch (2 separate install / comp, one by account)
os being win7 ultimate x64 on both.
the issue is still happening on both computers!!!!!!!!!
IT COULD BE TIME FOR CCP TO DEAL WITH THIS! |

While experimenting with trying to find a better way to multibox I was using fixed window instead of my normal fullscreen graphics options and sound seemed to start every time - tho I've not tested it exhaustively - after going back to fullscreen still the old problem. I'll test a bit more when I have time but fixed window doesn't work as well as fullscreen on my setup so don't really want to use that. |

i also tested with the 3 modes (on the 2 comps), fullscreen, windowed and fixed window, and it has no impact on this issue, still no sound at first start / restart.
also, by default i use fixed windows on the desktop, and fullscreen on the laptop, since desktop uses 2 screens with different resolution, and i have the same behaviour of the sound on both.
will give a try to the repair tool and keep post updated on result here is what the repair tool gave me, seems damaged files are launcher one, but i don't use the launcher so i don't expect any miracle

Yeah forgot to update it to say that fixed window didn't seem to change anything in the long run on retesting it.
The problem atleast for me appears to be related to library.zip once the tool had identified and repaired that file so far I've not had the sound fail, all my clients started first time today with sound which has never happened since the launch of Odyssey. |

if you look at the pastebin i linked, i also have a library.zip wich get corrected, but judging by the path of it, (i.e. Restoring: launcher\appdata\EVE_Online_Launcher-2.1.571330.win32\library.zip), the file is related to the launcher, i'll take a look at it's content to be sure.
from what i found, it is the only file name this way so pretty sure we are talking about the same file. |

This.
Still happening. No amount of repair or different starting techniques matters. I get sound about half the time. Extremely frustrating to have to shutdown and re start multiple times just to get my character online with sound. |
