Yesterday I logged in after DT and started mining in high sec. For example Veldspar's quantity was usually over 100k. Today I log in at same time and quantity is much lower. Veldspar - 25k max. Checked other belts and it was the same. Is Ore's quantity a completely random thing or do ores respawn always after DT but with different quantity? |

The belts replenish some ore at DT. If you've mined the belt out, the new asteroids will be small the next day. Leave them alone, they'll be a little bigger the day after. There is a max size for rocks, offhand no idea how long it takes rocks to get there. |

Thanks, so it's the best to check asteroids after DT with a hope that they weren't fully mined yesterday? |

Or just mine them and switch belts when you empty one. |

I found the belt has a max size that is reached pretty much on the third day. From my own observation the max sizes are set by per system basis. This max size is then divided by the number of belts. If you can find a system with low amount of belts and is dead, mine them out so there is not a single roid left. Leave it alone for 4 days. Come back with an Orca each day, scan and copy+paste the results in excel, you will find the max size of the belt. Mine it out dry again, then again record the results. You will see that while the ore type and units are different, the total ore m3 will be the same size when it maxes out. Which to me happens on the third downtime. Day 1: Mine out the system Day 2: First Down Time(DT) Day 3: 2nd DT Day 4: 3rd DT Belts maxed.
The best bet is to set a mining route so that you give belts a chance to max out, and every day you get the best possible belt sizes. |

Yes, asteroid belts do need to replenish after being mined out, and rocks do have a maximum size.
However, it is interesting to note that I completely strip mine the exact same belt every time, and it always has 850,000 m3 in it, give or take 5k m3. It always has this amount in it whether or not I completely stripped the belt the day before. |
