Recently, I purchased a Corax, and loaded it with all assortments of lovely fittings, bringing it to over 600 dps. While on my merry way, I came across someone attacking other new players and decided to play Good-Guy-Greg. The attacker was piloting a well fitted Incursus, but the lowly frigate had no comparison to my destroyer's capabilities... or so I thought.
When the fellow finished killing off several victims and turned his attention to me, I let loose with a group of 7 launchers... only to do a measly 40ish damage. I didn't know what was going wrong, and before I had a chance to figure things out, I was killed, my ship and all it's fittings lost.
I'm not complaining about being killed, mind you, EVE is just that sort of game, roll with the punches and whatnot... what has my nickers in a twist is that upon further investigation, I found out that, though all my launchers were loaded and grouped, only ONE of them was firing at a time.
Not as in 1st, 2nd, 3rd mind you, but rather the 1st fired, reloaded, fired, and all the others just sat there.
I've tried to regroup them on my replacement, but it does the same thing. It takes about 3 or 4 goes of grouping, ungrouping, and regrouping to get them to work as intended. Is this a known bug in the game, or am I just having some terrible luck? |

I have a Corax with all launchers grouped together and it works just fine. The only time that I've had a problem with grouping is when I was using different ammo types in the launchers. I had a mix of kinetic, thermal and emp missiles and they wouldn't group or fire correctly. Switching them all to a single particular missile type corrected the problem. |

I have a few thoughts about this:
1) Your missiles were likely grouped properly. When the grouped missiles hit a target, it only displays a single damage notification of the sum damage for the salvo, which would fit the description.
2) 600 DPS is ridiculous for a Corax. Quickly fitting one on EFT, I can get 232 DPS with near-max skills, 7 T2 rocket launchers, and dual BCUs in the lows. That number can go up to 280 DPS if I load Rage rockets. Even if I use the rigs to increase damage further, it'll be heavily stacking penalized, and is likely to break 300 DPS just barely.
I'd suggest posting the fit for further analysis. Glory |

Are they all the exact same named launchers?
As per my above edit, there's no way you are going to get 600 DPS out of that Corax. What you are talking about is volley damage. And even then, the total volley damage isn't a reliable indicator. The amount of damage you will do depends on your speed, your target's speed, target ship size, your missile skills, and the resists of the target ship vs the damage type of your missiles.
Long story short, never rely solely on EFT or any other similar tool. Most of the time, EFT is WAY off what you're going to see on the in-game fit screen and in actual combat. |

You're right, volley damage reads 600. However, all launchers were the same, all missiles were the same. I tested it out on another Incursus, this time after having to group/regroup over and over before the engagement, and it worked just fine, 600 per volley, dead in just 3 shots.
However, anytime I refit it and have to group things again, it does the same thing, and I have to group/regroup repeatedly and test on non-com targets before it finally works as intended. |

What exactly do you mean by "grouped". Your "all the others just sat there." makes me believe that you have a wrong idea about grouping, because, if they are grouped, you should not see the other launchers and thus be unable to know whether they sit idle or not.
If you see 7 launchers in your overview, they are not grouped, whatever you might think they are. If they are grouped, you only see one launcher, with a little "7" to indicate that it's a group of 7.
Look at: http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/File:OverheatingGroup.png In the first image, there are two groups: one with one turret and one with six. In the second image, there are seven individual turrets, none are grouped. |

This would appear to be a new bug. I had exactly the same problem last night with my medium arties.
Loading the group in the fitting screen only appeared to fill the clip on one of the guns. I thought it was just a display glitch until I checked the ammo stack in my hold. It had indeed only removed 20 rounds from the stack and filled the first gun in the group.

Confirming that I too have had that same bug with the Corax (albeit on a mission so I didnt really think much of it).
All i did to fix it was ungroup and regroup again, but file a report and maybe a petition if you want to attempt to get your ship back. |

Damage displayed is after resist are taken into account. 40 damage after resist with 7 missiles fired would be about right for what your toon is capable of with his current set of skills.
Your whole set firing when grouped would be displayed as only one turret/missile launcher firing..
No Bug.
Edit: an Incursis in the hands of a good pilot will easily shred a paperthin destroyer piloted by a 3 day old pilot. I consider the Incursis one of the best frigates to PVP in. Much <3 to it! Reopen the EVE gate so we can invade Serenity. Goons can go first. |

Ungroup and regroup your launchers, however I feel the damage you did to the incursus sounds about right. It was probably afterburner fit going over 1km/s and with it's tiny sig radius will easily tank a newbies missiles. |
