Edited by: Anjerrai Meloanis on 25/12/2005 16:38:59 Please define, i cant actually figure out what one is. It seems that if a player just for one second starts to make isk in Eve he/she is a carebear, even if theyre making isk to most likely pvp. I spend alot of time making isk, but half the time i have to stop half way through and go get blown up/blow something up when ebil's come along.
Am i a Carebear for making isk to pvp?
It seems the pvp'ers who have sold tech II bpo's and have billions of isk in their wallets are the ones who flame anyone who has to make isk, heh. uh.

Edited by: Drayco on 25/12/2005 16:51:00 well i always thought a carebear was someone that hated pvp and cried about griefers. since someone is flaming on someone for making money too fund pvp isnt that like the Pot calling the Kettle black???... Anjerrai no worries on your part if you blast people and have fun at it thats your account play how you like. dont let someone else tell you what your doing is wrong... i make my isk by taking stuff off other ships player and npc alike and sell them off or grind the junk into mins.

I believe a carebear is someone who whines a lot to have the game mechanics change to his own liking, be it a pirate or a miner. Miners are specially noisy because many of them believe that eve should be a consentual pvp game where u can mine 24/7 even in low sec. and not get attacked by anyone.

You're confusing 'carebear' with 'noob', There's no way you can fly a battleship properly after a month, you're asking for a swift death.
Anyway, I think people generally define a carebear as someone who only ever stays in high sec and makes reasonable money without any risk whatsoever then complains when they do step into low sec or get war decced and subsequently blown away. Others will call anyone who has a sec status above -2.0 and makes money though any means other than piracy and pvp as a carebear. It's really personal preference... It's still overused no matter which way you define it

Edited by: Ras Blumin on 25/12/2005 17:31:30 I've got/read a lot of "definitions" for the term carebear;
A person who avoids pvp at all costs.
A person who whines instead of adapting.
Someone who is making cash outside of pvp ( ie. when I'm ratting in 0.0, I'm "carebearing", nothing wrong with this, you need isk to pvp =) ).
A person with waay too much cash who suck at pvp.

And I quote:
"The Care Bears' ultimate "weapon" is the Care Bear Stare, in which the collected bears stand together and radiate light from their respective chest symbols, combining to form a ray of love and good cheer which could bring care and joy into the target's heart."
Carebear is now a derogatory term the refers to someone who stands for hugging instead of fighting. (Aka anyone who wants to get rid of PvP in one way or another)

I know I care about my ships. No ships, no loot, no fun.

I see "carebear" used alot in the forums. I think this thread sums up that this word is used so much its meaning isnt clear.
A good example - "lol" this means NOTHING anymore...
Nothing to say? then lol

I think a carebear is a person that thinks others have no right to interfere with his gameplay.
Should someone try, they will lobby to get the game mechanics changed.

Edited by: Zarithas on 25/12/2005 22:31:32 A carebear is someone who despises PvP, whines about certain griefing/PvP features, and basically only does PvE or other boring things (aka mining, trade routes, etc.) as a living.
If you mine or do trade routes from time to time, but PvP, then you're almost definitely not a carebear. A carebear is someone who just plain skips every PvP aspect of a game, and whines when they get attacked/killed in some sort of PvP-related way.

lol, but seriously. I basicly see :
Carebear : Miner, trader, etc, perhaps some PVE. Basicly, the opposite to a pirate, and just as a note "Carebear" call pirates "griefers".
Hmm there seems to be a divide in eve, just me?

carebears are all the whiney babies that hate pvp and cry so bad they think about suicide when they get thier ship blown to bits (maybe podded as well) yet hang out in low sec systems when all thier troubles could be prevented by staying in a newb corp in .5+ (cant get invovled in wars while in a noob corp)

I think a carebear is just like the noun. Happy fuzzy player that doesnt want anything to do with being ebil, just wants to mine and trade. I blame society for making carebear some different weird meaning :/

A carebear is one who does not accept that in the game there should be risk, and seeks to have the game mechanics changes so that they can mine/trade/whatever with no risk of non-consentual interaction with other players.
A miner who accepts that he can be stolen from and uses every measure to prevent it, is not a carebear.
A trader who accepts that he can be caught, destroyed, robbed, ransomed, etc and uses every measure to protect himself from that fate is not a carebear.
A "fighter" who categorically refuses to enter .4 to avoid any player interaction is a carebear, even if he drives a Raven and does level 4 missions.

Comes down to risk tolerance and how people react to risk.
- Low risk tolerance. Specifically risk created by other players - Lobbying to have the said risks removed
Would sum it up in my book. ISK and making it has nothing to do with it.

What's a carebear in the real world? A cuddly, fluffy little bear thing. Often with a heart on its chest.
In Eve? The same thing, really. Minus the fluff.
