If you really don't want local on your chat, then you can simply close it. There! Problem solved, for you. You won't have a clue who's in local with you.

1st you would always have to work in groups in order to achieve a goal. Ratting would not be as safe as it is now.
2nd probing would be much more interesting now knowing what you will pick up in a system on scan and what kind of opposition awaits you "on the other side" of the scan.
3rd 0.0 alliances would not feel that safe any more and they would actually have to put in a lot of work and time to keep their systems safe :)

hmm, define fun.
If they removed local then I dare say it would be the end of eve. The majority of carebears in highsec would leave. The majority of nullbears in null will leave. PvP would stop (you can't hunt and find something you don't know is there)
So good luck on CCP still running the game with a fraction of it's subscriber base. This topic has been brought up so many times in the past and if CCP were interested in doing it then they would have done it by now.
You want local to go then go live in a wormhole, you want to resurrect an old warn out topic, you can also pick AFK Cloakers, Boost Nullsec, Nerf Highsec. |

I'm fine with getting rid of local, but players in nullsec still need access to the intel it provides. The majority of players in nullsec are carebears and only live there because of the PvE content. If you take away local, they're just going to move back to highsec.
Oh god. |

Lol, you always hear the alliance members complain :)
True. the parties that would experience massive isk loss are sov holders, macrofarmers and miners, but then again, it would make you work for your isk. PVP would be awesome in all aspects. Simply ******* awesome!
Never knowing what to expect is fundamental for this type of game.
Now as soon as you see a local spike, you know the numbers, the people ergo you can assume ship types and thats that... Fleet fight is over before even a single shot has been fired. :) No more goons, no more bob, no more massive powerblocks....
Every ship would have a value in combat. The Arazu for example is a useless ship nowdays. Same goes for a few more recon vessels.
Without local, every ship would play its part. Scouts would no longer be pods that jump in to count the numbers in local chat, but rather recon vessels or bombers that do the real probing to sum up the opposition. Frontlining capitals would not be an everyday event where you would lose a cap, make enough isk in a week for 2 more and go fight again. No more massive fights where its "me vs the loading screen" pvp.
It would simply define the pvp as its meant to be, not as the carebears would like it to be. |

Known space uses some sort of logging in system. So when you jump through a stargate you are being registered into that system.
One mechanic you could add is either choose to log out of that system and lock out local for both you and other people in system.
Or add some sort of module that removes you from local. This module would either use a lot of cap or only last like 15 sec. The advantage that would enable you to scan somebody in the system and warp to him. |

then again, all the carebears would not be able to rat :) So they wouldn't rat, and there'd be less for you to PVP. Furthermore your average player would have much less isk to spend on ships in nullsec and so you'd have less people who are willing to fight back. My Youtube Channel Latest video: August 25, 2013 |

It would not be the end of EvE.
No, highsec people would not leave. Local does nothing for highsec, except provide a place to chat. Unless you are in a highsec war, then that intel would be gone, but that's ok. It would be more fun then.
You may be right about the nullbears, but I think most would stay.
Yes, you can hunt and find something you do not know is there.

So why would they move to an area of space with more risk for less reward, then? |

See above. Check out any WH alliances killboard.
Plenty of people know how to hunt w/o local.
