well... one of my accounts was reset... one was not
both had sort of strong passwords not containing any names but some special characters... were same length
so in case their selection of accounts to reset passwords was well done i highly doubt it has anything to do with brute forcing the passwords
oveur, pls shed some light, i hate beeing kept in the dark
thx, end

just 1 exception to this and this idea is flawed.
Sounds likely. From two other players I talked to, one had an old pw and can't log in. The other started in December and his pw is still valid.

i cant get in on my main, skill is completed 2 hours ago, the main logon told me my details were incorrct, so i can only presume my password was reset.
no mail to say though, so i reset it through acct page as suggested, still no mail.
Now Im very worried that ive been *****ed/hacked (shafted) or whatever, and my hard earned isk and items might be gone.
I hope CCP will be persuing this to the nth degree and replacing anything anyone may have had stolen.,

I was hacked too.
For the record, My computer is running 3 differnt anti-virus programs, because one is never enough.
Ive NEVER given my password out to ANYONE.
I have MS auto update set to run everynight at 3AM, it didn't install the lastest patch however, did that this morning.
I don't "visit" smutt sites, actually use my browser for the forums, a few news sites, google and weather.com & POTBS.com
==============
Which leads me to my next question.
Is there anyway to prosiciute(sp?) these guys that you find Oveur?
Beyond the bannings, any legal action that can be taken in a civil route?
.....awaiting my password,

How do you know you were? That's right, you don't know. The fact is that lots of accounts got their passwords reset, AS STATED BY OVEUR, including my 2nd account.
You guys need to understand that just because your password was reset does NOT mean that your account was compromised.

I've never changed my password. One has been in place since September 2004, the other (2nd account) since November/December 2005. The account from Nov/Dec 2005 got reset, not the old one. There goes your logic :)

Doh... The CC info and billing is being done from a completely separate system, obviously. The fact that the last 4 figures are shown is only there for your own reference so you know which card you used, and it's the ONLY info stored in the EVE database concerning your CC. I wouldn't be surprised if CCP has the whole CC-charging thing contracted out to another company all together.
But, now, concerning this password hack. Consider this. 57 Accounts have been hacked. How could that have been done? The only way I see, other than hacking CCP itself, is if these ppl have had some keylogging virus infection on their PC's. Apparantly the pw's were sent to the virus makers. What worries me is this:
If this is true, and the ppl are not aware they have been infected, what good will setting new pw's do? These will just be sent to the hackers like the original was, right?
Can some of you with their accounts hacked, confirm (with any degree of certainty, i.o.w. know what you're talking about) whether or not this is the result from a virus or hack of your system?
Mine was hacked.. I know this as my wallet was cleaned out. I know I did not have a virus or key board tracker going, well, my anti virus and anti adware software is sure of this. I run them once a day but ran both after I was hacked. Since CCP locked the system down, I suspect that it was the servers that were hacked.
Along those lines, they do use M$ for the OS and this did happen right before the new patch so I would expect that they got infected and that is why they had to shut down the servers to do repairs and up load the new security patch. svetlana - "whining gets you stuff. that is why humans got to the top of the food chain and all the other animals got nerfed."

Wrong, I changed my other account's password 2 months ago and I've been reseted...

IF you have been hacked, you can sue, you will need a lawyer to work with the police to put in a request to CCP for the IP of the hacker, then another for the identity of the hacker from the ISP that IP belongs too, of course if there using a false/hacked ISP account, it becomes extremely harder to track down the suspect

---SUGGESTION----
To avoid stuff like keyloggers do what the banks do. Rather than just having a username/password also have an attribute, like, date of birth or a PIN, which is selectable using dropdown lists, so leyloggers cant really pick it up.

don't worry, this has happend to about 2000+ more. my main got reset and i didn't receive an email either. unfortunately we have to be patient. and the chance that you were really hacked is very small. so don't worry. you'll be fine.

i am not going in to all that for a game though be sure if my main is gone now or anything like it its game over for me and i would be sad like hell its a charactar from back in 2003

I changed both my account passwords two months ago (at the same time). One was reset (my main with 99% of my stuff, natch) while my alt remains unmolested.
Still waiting for a reset email.

This isn't going to happen. Unless you really got hacked (which, considering only 57 accounts were compromised, has a low probability) and the hackers are the destructive kind and sent your character to biomass, CCP can always return it to you.

How?
My main account PW has been changed, in order to get to My Account and manually change the PW I have to first log in... Which I cannot do...
I have recieved NO emails from CCP pertaining to this.
I have also tried the "forgot password" thingy and no email 30 minutes after I tried that...
Now what do I do CCP?

Guys, try not to panic.
57 accounts were ôhackedö/socially engineered etc.. It would seem that more than this number have had their passwords reset by CCP. This would be a precautionary response, perhaps they reset all accounts with over a certain threshold of ISK, perhaps theyÆre ones CCPÆs security observered the ôhackersö trying but failing, perhaps ones which are simply in a concurrent list as the ôhackedö accounts etc. etc.
CCP have back ups, if anything is missing from an account they will be able to compare it's state with the backup and see what is missing. The ultimate option is a roll back, but Im sure youÆll all appreciate that CCP will no doubt try there hardest to avoid having to resort to such.
It will take a while but things will be fixed, just try to be patient. - - - The Big Blue, ôExodus realised.ö |
