Does the partial training remain when I am ready to add it to the queue again?

No... similar to a taking a cake out of an oven too soon, the skill will implode and be reduced a level. Impatience has penalties!
On a serious note... yes. The skill will remain as is, partially trained, until you come back to it. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

To be clear, any SP that gets applied to a skill will remain applied even if the skill is not completely trained to the desired level.
I have a couple skills that I want at level 5 but don't want to wait the full 25days just to train the skill, so --if I don't have anything more pressing to train--I'll stuff it at the end of a queue so I get something on it while I sleep. When I log in next, I'll pop that out and put in something more relevant. This means I basically whittled down the month of training into something I don't really feel the impact of. Short version: partial training can be useful and is allowed. |

As the others have already stated, there is no penalty to removing a skill from the training queue. You will hold on to any accrued SP.
There is one slight caveat however. I'll use myself as an example. Some time ago I started training Command Ships to 5, whilst my Perception attribute was boosted by implants (Command ships has Willpower as a primary attribute and Perception as secondary). I was then podkilled, meaning I lost my implants that were boosting my SP gain. Because your training queue can only ever be paused manually, Command Ships continued to train at the same rate at which I started it (boosted with implants). However, if I for any reason paused my queue and temporarily trained a different skill, when I would go back to train Command Ships again, it would calculate my training time without my implants.
TLDR; If you pause your queue or switch skills and your attributes are lower than when you started training the paused skill, the rate of your SP gain will be recalculated. |

This exploit was fixed. It hasn't worked like this for many months. |

Was it? I was on a bit of an EVE break for the last year+ so I guess I'm a little out of touch. Thanks for the clarification. |
