Man oh man why doesn't CCP just hire the X3 guys to do their next graphic's engine update?!
Okay maybe CCPs guys are just as good, so let them loose then! I WOULD LOVE TO SEE OUR GAME LOOK LIKE X3!!!
Seeing X3's version of an Interon flying by in all it's TO SCALE and detailed glory is just astounding. The stations, planets, etc. DROOOOL.
If you have a decent system, turn all the candy on and sit back and enjoy!

To make X3 multiplayer they would have to change so many things that it wouldnt be an x game at all tbh.

To judge a game solely on its looks as opposed to its playability its just lame, I have played X3 to death and literaly, after smashing every ounce of that game in less than 2 weeks... well, looks are fleeting gameplay lasts.
Besides, if ccp handed over any kind of development to thoes guys, then Eve would be half finished... bugged mroe so... lagged mroe so with half implemented sloppy code.
Besides, X3 and Eve are 2 entirely different types of games with the only similarities being the setting they are in.

1) It runs so slow even on a top end machine its mindblowing.
2) Its a mediocre game.
3) Imagine a fleet battle in X3. Now add on MMORPG code. What's that sound? Its your computer screaming in agony as it tries to eek out 1 frame per second.
This is why I don't want X3 devs getting anywhere near EVE. -- Proud member of the [23].

I don't think x3 programmers have anything on CCP. MMORPGs are truely on a whole other level. Working and creating a sucessful MMORPG is like having a blackbelt in game programming. There are reasons not to overdue graphics in MMOGs.

X2...
I hate it so, i won't even dl the demo's
X3 wouldn't work here anyway, you can only just about run the programme once on your machine from all acounts, multiple tasks (clients)... wouldn't be viable for just about everybody... Thats money in ccp's eyes...
Too many folks run the client multiple times from one machine, it's not abouts looks.... it's a mmo... people play to win....
Just like the folks that frigged the textures and changed it to 'simple' in q3 when it first came about.. wasn't about looks it was about advantage (mine was having a 256 ddr at the time),,, id be sure naffed off if i could only run one from a box, id lose that special something ______
862 buses later, galks back on the road again:)

why not hire the staff who made X3...
because eve's graphics are based on software concepts 6 years old, barely using 3d rendering cards, using software shaders.
if they can produce something as good as eve was for the hardware standard of then, I for one am quite terrified to imagine just what a DX10 GPU pipelined version using pizel and vertex shaders, parallax and normal mapping with highpoly master assets and multiple dds textures would be like, because, to be blunt, it'll make X3 look like kids playing with MS Paint... I suspect it's fair to say that the day CCP's art department are told "guys, we've got the new engine, do whatever you want", it'll surpass almost anyone else in the industry. they certainly will leave most of the companies I know in the dust.

I've played the game. Even with the recent patches that improve the graphic engine's performance, the framerate still takes a nosedive even on top-of-the-line systems. The gameplay is also pretty mediocre and the interface feels like it was designed to confuse the player as much as possible. It's definitely a nice-looking game but the gameplay just isn't there. ---------- |

I'm playing X3 all the time atm.
It's so addictive and so much better than eve - as I advertised in another thread ;)
It's single player, it's extremely buggy, and even decent computers go totally berserk if you use certain weapons, are in certain systems etc.
However, the game is still very cool, very nice graphics and it's PLAYABLE at all times, which eve definately isn't if you're more than 2 people in the same place.

If X3 is so much better why are you posting here?
Seriously, the game sucked. Any chance for the game to actually be worth playing was destroyed by its miserable, godawful interface which was even worse than the impossible one in X2.
They should take a hint from EVE and pay more attention to interface than graphics. -- Proud member of the [23].

X3 < X:BTF < X2 < Eve
I've played 'em all to death, apart from EVE, at which i'm still fairly noob but think I get the gist of.
The X series are fantastic games, with truely dynamic economies, requiring immense thought and planning to build a succesful empire. Some of the things people have managed in those games are truely remarkable.
But the only competition is against said economy, you have no true competitors, no-one else is figting for the niches you are, no-one else is fighting you at all. No match for a game which is by definition, and in every form of play, entirely PvP (except agent running :p )
X2 and 3 do look fantastic though... mmmmmm shiney.

*laughs* yeah, I would'nt want to be playing any MMO on current hardware with those sorts of art assets. but, equally, 10Kpoly DDS normal/parralax with PS3.0 pixel/vertex shaders being played in 2008 would be unlikely to even give a PC a sweat. remember people being amazed that at how incredible the FX in Unreal II was, and how "insane" the hardware specs were, not that long ago at all...

Originally by: Judas Jones Besides, X3 and Eve are 2 entirely different types of games with the only similarities being the setting they are in.
QFT: X3 is a single player game with the whole environment, gameplay, shrunken to a much smaller size for manageability. Manageability by the lowest common denominator of the people who might purchase it.
Eve is massive in scope and capabilities. It is expanded beyond what 99.9% of humans can capably manage. This allows for the average player to niche himself within the environment and compete in his niche. It also allows that 0.01% (which I am not a part of) to truly test their fullest capabilities.
The X-verse mplayer or mmo would sink like a rock.
PS: IBTL. (Discussion about another game should be somewhere else... not in General.)

... How is the game "playable at all times" when it's at the same time "extremely buggy" and "goes totally berserk when you use some stuff and/or go to certain places"..? o.O

Edited by: XR Havoc on 15/01/2006 03:42:17 I played X2 to death and some of X3 and I don't believe they are as much fun as Eve. The combat is horrid, if you want a great, free space combat game check out Freespace Open. An open source version of the original freespace with updated art assets. It's a ton of fun.
http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/fsscp/faq.php
To me that is the X series biggest sin, totally fubaring combat when it has been done correctly in the past so many times (Privateer, Freespace, X-wing series)

X3 has a lot of potential, but the developers really should learn how to do user interfaces correctly. The interface seems designed to make players run away screaming.
TBH, I don't think X3 is a patch on Nexus: The Jupiter Incident.

Haven't played X3. But if CCP use graphic like that on EVE, I will certainly can't play due to fps and my notebook specification (tried running F.E.A.R. demo and it crashed). The only thing I wanna see new on EVE's graphic is planet's texture with city lights than can be seen from space.

You know I picked up the game based on the screens. I was kind of dissapointed. And I have to 100% agree with Dark Shikari
Quote: 1) It runs so slow even on a top end machine its mindblowing.
2) Its a mediocre game.
Yes it looks good, but really thats about it. I find myself wanting to log into EVE when I'm playing X3. You know whats funny is alot of people hate EVE's window style interface. But when you play a game that poorly intergrates that kind of interface, you come to appreciate how clean EVEs is.
And EVE's graphics are still nothing to turn your nose up at. I will say again; CCP needs to make a "High-orbit warp to planet" (like we have now) And a "Low-orbit warp to planet". (like X3's)
I always compair any kind of space sim to EVE and they all seem to lack solid game play and fall flat. I even think I've gone from being an EVE fanboi to a full blown "CCPs b*tch"
To sum up in one sentence. X3 is fun, but not even close to an EVE-killer.
