I would like to see some planetary ownership as well as graphics for certain ships able to lad on planet ports. Planet ownership would own a starting population(depending on skills) that would provide a tax base and ISK income. The planet depending on the type will be needing outside help by imported items to maintain it or the population will suffer/rebel. Suggested type of planets: Temperate High in Argriculture low in mining, Desert High in mining low in Argriculture....so on. As the planet is developed more population migrate and more ISK is taxed. Of coarse there is the Planet Size that determine the population MAX. Exceeding the max will cause unrest and crime, (at higher tech you can prevent that by more elaborate city complex or stopping immigration to your planet. War can cause population decrease or even genocide (which is very much a minus 100 point to the inner Empires fractions). You can protect your planet with orbital guns, a space station and patrol ships which you have to buy and maintain (or guild help with real live players patrolling your system with there ships). You get daily news on how your people/type of government is doing and any crime or attacks made on your planet(s). At a certain skill you get the ability to obtain a Heir (this is like a clone but allow you to re-due your looks and rename) also it cost nothing to maintain. The Heir will stay in your Palace/Castle till you take control of it due to your character demised. You can visit the Heir and will do a computer report depending on how you treat your people/empire. Graphics would be City development, and special buildings like spaceports, palaces, parks, gardens, tourest spots either beaches, nightlife, or amusement parks. The higher the skills the higher the lvl and graphics. If you have played Pax Imperium[/b] I would suggest that kind of graphics first then more detailed as the technology permits. Also, if you are in a guild owning a planet for your guild means your member can build palaces/castle of there own and have Heir too, but they in turn will be taxed and depending you your type of govenment can vote you out of office which in turn will result in them owning the planet and so forth. As planet owner you can put down Factories to harvest your planet resources but these Factories are owned buy other players never your own. The amount of Factories depends on the planet size. Desert planets will make more in mining Factories then Argicultures but you might want to deal some one for Argiculture to reduce your need for exported Argriculture produces. The population will ask goods from you and if those goods are not available in your market then the price will shoot up for the demands. Well I guess you basically know what I am trying to suggest. Hope to see these implimented in Eve-online someday.
Thanks for your time

Oh and to Add, Like in the Chronicles of Rid****. You can build Armies and Elite unites with the population that will invade planets if you can transport them. These Unites will attack other unites and x-amount of the population. The amount of unites can control 5-10x population for x-time then the planet is taken over. You can build Bunkers and Planetary Defenses to prevent population lost and make invasion harder. Battle are long and slow from 1-hour in realtime (against a completely defenseless planet that was discovered) to a max of 30days in real time. You can force the battle and lose the invasion or you can wait out for more reenforcement and still lose the invasion if none show and the planet force the battle on you. You get battle reports every hour in real time even when you are not log on. You pick the unites and there objectives i.e...24th Lancer Division secure the Spaceport, if the 24th Lancer Division Transport lands okay with no loses then your moral gets a boots but if they suffer 50% loses due to Spaceguns and Patrolship taking out 2 of the transport then there moral is down 50 and may not even succeed on taking the spaceport if the planary defense has 3 Division guarding it. Those in space will see red targets going up on the planet that are targetable and are consider objectives to shoot in order to help a unit in trouble (support bombardment). If no ship can provide support bombardment then it will be even harder for the invader and if the invader loses control of the orbit then the invasion is doomed!!
Also, the Inner Empire can grate you a planet that they own if your fraction is high enough with them. So instead of trying to establish a planet of your own you can play the politics game of the empire and be a governor of a planet.
I think this fit well in Eve-online.

Planetary Explorer I-V Put in Factories in a none-populated planet, No-Tax but Less output and higher keep.
-Planetary Surveyer I-V Put in Factories in a populated planet, Taxed but more output and lower keep.
--Planetary Governor I-V (gets you your first 100K population settlers and a slow 2% population growth. You can not make 2 till you have imported 200K population then you must train on 2 for x-hours).
----Planetary Rulership (I-V) allow you to Govern more planets with starting population or moving some of your population to desolate planets for development.
Military Leadership(I-V)Training of Armies from population pool.
-Military Elites(I-V)Training of Elite unites from Army pool.
--Military Armor(I-V)Addition of Mechanized unites to armies.
---Military Support(I-V)Addition to specialed support unites.

I like it! a couple ideas on the skills tho.
I think that Planetary explorer and surveyer should not require pre-reqs.
planetary govenor should require lvl3 in both explorer and surveyer, and give a 100k pop limit per level, and a 2% bonus to growth per level. lvl2 rank 4 skill
planetary rulership- +4 planets per level ( CEO and directors would each have planets "assigned" to them based on their level) and a further 2% bonus to pop growth. lvl6 rank 2 skill
--Military leadership - +2 units on planet per level. level 1 rank 3
-- Military Elites- requires military leadership level 3, allows 1 regular unit per planet to be "upgraded" in a training facility to an elite unit per level. level 3 rank 4
--Military Armor- requires military leadership level 3, allows 1 regular unit per planet to be "upgraded" in a training facility to an armor unit per level. level 3 rank 4
-- Military support- requires military leadership level 5, allows 1 regular unit per planet to be "upgraded" in a training facility to a support unit per level. Each support unit can "repair" one random damaged unit at the end of every round of combat. level 5 rank 2 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, it would put to good use these cargo of immigrants, scientist, mercenaries, homeless (going to your world for homes), slaves (if your world allow it), exotic dancer etc...
And in the future you can develop fast drop invaders transport. Fast transport that immediately lands into a planet and deliever troops (reducing interceptor loses).
The big thing about planet ownership is you can use those extra ship you have for your planet taskforce (NPC), and they will patrol around the planet even when you are log off. Setting up one of your ship as patrol NPC also takes out from the population. You can have as much as Planetary Fleet Skill allows (I-V) 2,3,6,9,12 max.

also if you pay lots of ISK to concord or something you could up the security status of the system and become your own empire.

In all the movies and novels about space and galactic empires. There is always the army the lone soldiers that make or break the empire. Even though this is a space ship vs space battle game, it should have Armies to give it that extra dimension on playability. Planetary battles between armies does not need to be elaborate like the space battles, but It should take place and the planet surface should calculate the owner ship of the planet by the strength of each side army, of coarse orbital bombardment can change the ownership to an extent.
Also make planet ownership start of with requiring a security of 9.9 to even get the skills for one, that way the have to really know the side they are playing for before they are given a planet or own one where the population will follow them. There Ethnic skill should be up at the 5 range for any kind of other race migration of 1% and same race migration of 5%. Population increase should take place slowly like and increase in every 18000 seconds (5-hr) in real time and can be made sooner by Skills.

I like this ideal. After all the planets and moons seem to be just picture in space and really has no actual purpose then placemarker for orbitals or jump points. I think if they do plan to make planets and planetary government with player run system it would take a new Eve-online II update. There is alot of moons and planet out in game now that to make them all capable to sustain a playable interface within the game universe you will need some major reworking to the game (Like Everquest getting horse: those that didn't get the upgrade saw player riding invisable horses which was funny) but unlike this planets can still be visible just you won't see the cities lights or interact with its port of call.

Also, Planet owners can rent out space in there planet to other Coorperation. Which in turn makes alliances or treaties.
Planet ownership doesn't need to be a habitable planet. It can be a moon with life support cities, construction similiar to a space base but in stead of orbiting it is in place either on the moon surface or on a planet.

are any of our current ships fitted for reentry and reaching escape velocity? or would that take a module? or maybe an entirely new class of ship?

Well, I'm assuming that they have Anti-Grav so reentry and take off should be no problem, and since the ship are not going to be doing atmoshpere battle then there aeroframe doesnt need to be considered. But if CCP does decide to go all out and include atmosphere battles then the ship performance would reflect its aeroframe. Have you seen the movie Serenity? Its base on the Sci-Fi TV Firefly. The ships there are not aerodynamically designed but the conceptually fly due to the Anti-Grav. I think from Destroyer down should have the option to land planet side on space port, while those Cruiser or bigger uses space station still to dock but can Shuttle down to planet for some sites and R&R.

Guess you just need to be more direct on it. How many would agree if it is possible to have Eve-Online include planetary events: Like colonization, Heroes getting governorships, and possibly system ownership if influencial and powerful enough.
