Just spent nearly 7 days training Learning Level 5.
It took 3 hours off Instant Recall To Level 5.
Its now only 6 days and 15 Hours.
So, what exactly does Learning Level 5 do? I feel completely robbed.

Assuming you're not a complete retard and actually did read what the skill does in the info thing, you should be able to answer this yourself.
Learning
So it gives a 2% reduction in training time per level. You just got level 5, so that's a 10% training time reduction. So from now on, ALL skills you train will take 10% less time than if you had not trained Learning 5. Don't feel cheated.

With learning at lvl5, for every 10 attribute points you get 1 point free.
So when you have 20 points in Intelligence, actually you have 22 points.

Now lets see.... 3 hrs from l5 Instant recall, add to this about 3 hrs off all other L5 learning skills, hmm you have about 15 hrs saved already, oh and dont forget that once you got learning skills - all of them - to L5, it will take off even more OVERALL time from skills.
In essence, cumulitive benefit is enourmous. Once you get all Learning Skills to L5 and All Advanced Learning to L4 + Learning to L5 you will have shaved months of learning time off the learning curve.
So, I am not sure what you talking about. Did you expect to be able to train any L5 skill in half the time?

Once you get your other attributes to lvl 5 and beyond, you will really start to see the bonus of training learning to lvl 5.
When your attributes close in on 20...that 10% bonus will equal 2 skill points, and thats a nice bonus.

Ask someone who has not done any learning how long it takes them to train, say, frigate from level 4-5.
Now ask someone who has got all the learning done.

It's as simple as that:
For each level in LEARNING you earn 2% of attribute points. So, if you have 10 Perception, Learning at level 1, you have 10.2 Perception. Do not take the "Attribute" screen for real. It already contains the calculated values, rounded down! In truth, EVE calculates with the floating point values, so it REALLY DOES MATTER if you got 10.2 or just 10.
Of course, this also applies to all other attributes. Learning itself affects ALL attributes, so you get +2% attribute points for each attribute. So you REALLY NEED this skill at level 5!
And the best thing is: Those 2% per level are calculated from your BASE ATTRIBUTE POINTS + POINTS YOU GAINED THROUGH SPECIALIZED LEARNING SKILLS + IMPLANTS; That means, if you add a better implant, the normal Learning skill will boost the bonus even more.
Additionally you should know, that that bonus has two effects in the end: It affects the PRIMARY attribute for each skill, and the secondary attribute too!
If you do not know how the PRIMARY and SECONDARY attribute of a skill do affect skill training time, please referre to any manual or guide.
Hope that helped. :)

Never knew about this rounding down and the decimal percentages.
Looked to see if my attributes had changed and they hadn't.
Expected a bigger boost shame they round down, why not have the decimals?
After all it is just simple maths equations.
And if you get 1 point for every 10 you have why didn't my Atts go for eg 14 to 15?

As I understand it the rounding down is only visual, The training calculation uses the exact values of your attributes.

It makes the math nerds in the skills section feel smart, to inform newbies that getting learning level 5 will pay off a few days before the second coming of Jesus.
Taking Int and Per to adv 4 are worth it. Beyond that, it'll take you like 3 years to repay Willpower because its a secondary stat. Same goes for mem unless you are really into Industry and Drones.
My advice is, take Per and Int to adv 4, and don't train anything to level 5 unless its to unlock another skill that you want.
The rest of the learning 5's are ****e, all they do is bloat your clone cost and let you brag to people how you have 50 million skillpoints, but you're scared to undock because the +5's in your head were subsidized by selling your dog into prostitution.

So when I assumed you were not a complete retard, and then answered you, that was a "f*** up"?
Guess I shouldn't assume someone isn't retarded.

Edited by: Taerenius on 16/02/2006 22:42:51 Wow some newbies reading this thread are going to get LOTS of misinformation.
Newbies: After reading this thread, KEEP THE FOLLOWING IN MIND:
learning level 5 DOES NOT decrease your total skill training time by 10%. It decreases it by TWO (2) percent. Learning 1-4 each decrease it by another 2%.
So is it really worth training learning from 4-5? Possibly, if you plan to play the game for a really long time. I personally didn't feel it was worth the extra 2%. So the reason you only lost 3 hours off of instant recall is because that one level of learning was only a 2% drop in training time, not 10%.

Tony, I've read a lot of your posts, but that is by far the funniest thing I've ever read of yours!

Lol. Poor dog. I agree with the bloated clone cost, but objectively, we'd all hit the higher clone at some point, so avoiding Advanced 5's just delays the inevitable in that respect. I only did Clarity+Focus 5, and I don't really regret it. I don't think they are a necessity though. But they make the endless ship/gun grind a bit less painful (especially using PvP clones with minimal implants...)
