What are the bare minimum skills you can buy and skill up on a second or third character to help out a T1/T2 manufacturer, that also provides the widest range of help, without having to buy the extra 10million+ science skills?
I'm thinking of being able to copy BPOs, fill slots with PE and ME research, maybe a little T1 production (making RAM objects, etc). I'm going to be very busy with the holidays on the way and I thought I could divert some skill time to manufacturing skills.
A friend is starting T2 production in January and he could use a copy monkey to help fill slots. I can afford to give up somewhere between 2 and 3 weeks skilling to help out my bro. What's the best use of that skill time? |

It depends really on what you want to manufacture or research. A lot of stuff doesn't need much. Some bpos require metallurgy V / research V for ME/PE (i.e. construction components). Rigs on the other hand need the rigging skills at I. And then there are bpos like the prototype cloaking device, which require additional science skills.
With very llimited time, the best thing to do is to find out exactly what bpos you want to work on and train accordingly. Remove insurance. |

It's about 30days for a T1 manufacture alt. But if you want to do T2 manufacturing, you're gonna need alot of extra science skills. |

If all you want to do is make blueprint copies, and assuming this character will sit inside the station 24/7, then all you need to train is: - Science 5 (makes copying faster, and is a pre-requisite for other skills) - Laboratory Operation 5 (gives you 6 science slots to work with) - Advanced Laboratory Operation 4 (gives you 10 science slots. Level 5 would give you an 11th, but it is a month-long train.) - Scientific Networking 1 (allows you to use BPOs in the station and copy them in the POS. Train to higher levels if this character will fly around the region.)
If you plan to also do ME research, then train: - Metallurgy 5 (makes ME research faster)
If you plan to also do PE research, then train: - Research 5 (makes PE research faster)
For T1 Manufacturing (R.A.M.s and T1 base items), all you need to train is: - Industry 5 (makes manufacturing faster, and is a pre-requisite for other skills) - Production Efficiency 5 (reduces waste) - Mass Production 5 (gives you 6 manufacturing slots to work with) - Advanced Mass Production 4 (gives you 10 manufacturing slots. Level 5 would give you an 11th, but is a month-long train.) - Supply Chain Management 1 (allows you to use blueprints in station and manufacture from them in the POS. Train to higher levels if the character will fly around the region.)
It sounds like the above is what you want for a quick and useful lab rat alt. It will allow you to copy and manufacture about 98% of T1 blueprints. There are a few exceptions, like the person above who mentioned the Prototype Cloaking Device I requires Graviton Physics and Quantum Physics. I cannot list them all, so check each blueprint you are interested in.
Note, for most of the skills I have listed above, the level 5 is the goal, but you can start being useful before getting there. Production Efficiency is the exception. You do not want to build anything until that skill has reached 5. Margins are very thin, and having a lower Production Efficiency skill will cause many profitable items to become unprofitable to manufacture.

Awesome help, thanks. I probably won't go to 5 in things, but I can do the 4's and help my friend. Then I can go back to my exploration and PVP skilling.

To help your friend, this is what you need. It's about nine days of training - assuming you have science 5. The rest of skills Shoogie listed are all required if you want to more actively help (beyond copying). |
