Edited by: Dekiri on 09/03/2006 08:47:52 .. is.. that everybody is a "proffesional" on these things, but most do not seem to have the slightest clue about server clusters for mmorpgs. Those complaining about extended downtimes and calling themselves anything but clueless are nothing but armchair warriors. I have been playing mmorpgs since UO beta and i have also run a freeshard for ultima online back then myself, i also have been playing various mmorpgs before including SWG,EQ,EQII,WoW and so on. In each of these games there where times when the server completly died or was down for multiple days straight. This is because of the nature of mmorpg worlds. The code for these servers and the game itself is impossible to compare with anything else. You often create a bug where you never expected it, just because you tweaked something completly unrelated. This happens because everything in these games is linked in some way.
On top of this, CCP also has the most challenging structure in its game with only one server and no instancing.
So do me a favour you crybabies: Do not even think about talking about something you really have no clue about. The fact that you can setup a linux box or programm in 10 different languages does not make you an expert on mmorpgs and the hardware and software challenges around it. It is like a butcher telling a baker about the kind of flour he has to use. It is a completly different trade. And until now all you can ask for is information about the progress and regarding communication with the community CCP wins vs EVERYONE in this industry.
So please.. for the love of god... it is OBVIOUS that CCP does everything not only to keep us up to date, but also to fix the issues that came up.
Stop even talking about it until you find a company that does it better.

the only problem with this, per se, is that its easy to know enough to THINK you know what your talking about.
and anyone who *REALLY* has done stuff with computers(or I'd imagine just about anything else complex) more than minor dabbling, if they are honest with themselves, will know they've once or twice started talking about something, and then found out they didn't REALLY know nearly as much as they think they did.
but knowing what you DON'T know is important as well.

Edited by: Dekiri on 09/03/2006 09:31:37 They might think they need it, but i doubt that an adult should need this in this kind of way. Blaming others for things they have not done is contraproductive. The only thing they might get done with these complaints is demotivate the developers. There is no reason why those "addicts" should be allowed to spread their whines and pointless complaints.
This whole "customer attitude" makes me sick anyways. It is peopel dealing with people and some fairness and respect should be expected. Especially since the guys at ccp are obviously trying their very best to fix the stuff.

Yeah, I would tend to agree to this. The main thought I would put to anyone complaining about this kinda stuff is this: How many tests/quizzes/exams did you get 100% on in highschool or uni?
Then the question becomes, if you aren't perfect each time outta the box, how is it fair that you expect anyone else to be? Give them a break, they're only human, just like the rest of us. I don't know jack about code or servers or anything else, but i know I'm not perfect in any given way and by that token I'll never expect anyone else to be.

Nice post!
ccp=godlike programming and development. Or why do they implement all features on tranquility with all the bugs that are found and reported on the test server? --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray |

There is nothing wrong with the complaint threads except the kind of language used. What is completely wrong is singing praises night and day, no matter how worse things go.
With all the typical "Running a MMORG is unique... blah blah blah" aside, this is just another subscription work"and is not exempt from customer inspection. No product is immune to customer dissatisfaction.
So there is a very legitimate place for complaints here too. However, they should be expressed with proper, mature language, that is it.

Using words like "contraproductive" and "demotivate" doesn't help you apear any more intelligent than those you're trying to put down. :)
