So i just read a post about ArchAge having a criminal justice system.
I think this has always been one problem with Eve. We have a beautiful open environment but the punishment for criminals is limited. I think any time you are blown up NPC police it should come with a mandatory "jail" sentence. Something as simple as being forced to be dock for x amount of time.
An addition to this would be actual police corps. Corps based on bounty hunting criminals to lock them up. It would be a whole new type of gameplay.
Just a thought. |

No, it would be a whole new lack of gameplay, as you cannot do anything when locked up. We are Capsuleers, a breed of humans far more powerful than even the strongest of empires. Who says we can/will allow ourselves to be arrested? I wear my goggles at night.

Yeah, no.
I don't pay CCP each month to be forced to remain docked at any point.

I don't see how it is a lack of game play, you can still do everything from the station as normal just can't undock for say 15 minutes. Maybe letting players jail people is too much but i think NPCs could weild some power. It would only apply to high sec. |

nope the empires pay vast ammounts of money to concord and all they're willing and able to do is blow people up who commit crimes in enpire space it's not possible to jail a pod pilot as the only place they can put them is in a hanger and if the pilot so chooses he can kill himself arrive at a new clone and be on his way it's a terrible idea |

While idea is somewhat nice, the hard fact is that EVE and consequences do not mix. As my old maths teacher used to say: "Statistics are like bikinis: It's what they don't show that's interesting". -CCP Aporia |

No, this is a bad idea. Capsuleers exist in a pre-modern society in which vengeance and vendetta are pursued independently, and violence is not the exclusive preserve of the state. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine. |

Essentially this exists already: After a criminal act, any ship that you undock (except for your capsule) gets destroyed by CONCORD for 15 minutes.

Actually one exactly like archage would be hilarious, you have to collect the evidence to put a crime point on someone so you could sit there and gank anyone coming for the crime point. When you finally do get something pinned on them you have to find five players not afk to start the trial. During the trial the jurors will just stone the criminal - if they aren't afk as well since who wants to sit down to a trial where you can't talk or move or do. Finally they'll be thrown into jail where they will afk some more or you can use those sweet DUST models to make a jailbreak. Not sure how the 3k karma points turning you into a pirate will work.
tl;dr This idea is stupid as Archage is probably designed to actually have 5 non-afk players on. |

I know plenty of games where this system works. Eve is not one of them for many reasons.
People can cry about their monthly fee all they want, they can cry about having nothing to do (content can be created to make the jail time interesting, you just lack the imagination to know what that is or haven't seen prior examples) or say that there is already something similar in place.
Truth is this mechanic just wouldn't work in Eve. It doesn't mesh well with the lore, it doesn't fit in well beside the rest of the gameplay mechanics, and assuming that the first two weren't true it would be very difficult to design a scenario in which a jail-time mechanic for criminals wouldn't break the flow of gameplay and thus cause discontent with it's implementation. It'd be like having your FPS game interrupted by a game of Candy Crush whenever you get a killstreak. |

Hey, this is great. So I could clone jump to LowSec and undock again? One free criminal activity every 19 hours, coming up!
Best part: After 19 hours your potential victims will be complacent again. They will never see your gank coming!
But seriously, ideas like this are dumb. We're playing a game and which kind of game punishes gameplay with forcing people to stop playing? Why not unsub people who are repeat offenders? Take this insane dumb garbage to its logical extreme!
Edit:
And what about people who aren't dumb enough to dock up with their capsule? Should they be forced to wait around in space? Because if not, they could simply jump to the next LowSec-system to dock up normally again. So many holes in your idea... |
