Edited by: Sembonzakura on 04/08/2006 17:44:22 Very minot suggestion but it could really come in handy. When you select anything in a solarsystem at any range (like a asteroid belt/asteroid/stargete/station/moon/bookmark/etc.) you get an "Align" button in the overview, right-click menu and context menu.
This function would align your ship (without moving it much, it would just be a rotation) with the selected object/location. This would make it alot easier to align your ship with say, a moon when probing moons, or a station or safe spot when mining.
I know it's not a huge deal to align your ship but it can just get to be a pain sometimes, and I think it would have little effect balance wise.
What are your views on this? Good idea worth sticking somewhere on the devs 'to do' list? Bad idea and I should be podded for even suggesting it? --------- Sembonzakura

I'm not a programmer, but I think if they just took the maximum range trigger off of the "approach" command so you could approach things that are in different grids, it would have the desired effect.
I'm all for it. Having to cancel warp to align to a safespot and wasting a few seconds trying to find a destination gate for a gang warp is a nuisance, not a "tactical consideration", and an easy way to set a heading would be a welcome addition to EvE.

Yeah that would be fine too, you can set your speed to minimum (if say you don't want to accidentally stray too far from your mining can) then approach any object in the solar system (or any major object like station/moon/BM/etc,) and stop the ship immediately. --------- Sembonzakura

An align button is a great idea. The idea of pod pilots setting their ships to warp then cancelling it to align is ridiculous and it would save a lot of hassle.

Yeah, but as reggie said, they could just remove the distance cap on the approach function, it's not as good as an align function but it's better than nothing and will probably be easier to implement.
I'm not sure how they'd work it, maybe you can align to any object in the grid you are located in, and any further from that, you can only align with bookmarks and major "landmarks" like stargates, roid fields, moons, etc. This is basically so you can't align with all the small things like asteroids, I'm not sure how the game deals with these things, but I think anything outside your grid (bar major things like stations) arn't properly loaded, and making EVERYTHING in the solarsystem alignable would probably put alot of load on the servers. --------- Sembonzakura

This strikes me as a great idea. It hink it's been discussed before but I have no idea why it hasn't been implemented. -----------------------------------------------------------

I think this is something that every player has wished for at least once. I see no downside to it. It should be on the list.

my +1 I may command my ship to warpjump to distant object. This is very complex operation. Why I can't align my ship to distant object? It's much simpler and often required.
Please, add "approach" command to context menu and overview for distant object.
