It is a first iteration of new UI, when you dont like and have better argument than "I like color, make my icons shiny/pink/whatever" stop moaning in this thread and give feedback in https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=384110 |

The Loss of half of players for last year - that's the result of closing such threads. New UI is not smth realy NEW, it's just a SKIN! I don't have an opportunity to choose UI skins. Why? This thread would be closed too, I guess. So just do a simple thing: Esc -> General Settings -> Your Support Tickets -> Create New Support TicketGroup: Game PlayCategory: Interfaces, Controls & MenusSubject : PLEASE RETURN OLD INTERFACESupport Ticket Text : PLEASE RETURN OLD INTERFACEAnd press Submithere is a memo: PLEASE RETURN OLD INTERFACE JPG MEMOIt'll take less than a minute. If u feel 4 me, If u love eve - just do it. Make them stop killing EVE!!!
A: No. B: Closing threads to contain feedback is fair enough. As they point out, there's multiple Dev threads to post feedback, because they're reading it. C: Spam tickets are... Well... Spam. Here's a better idea: create some well-constructed feedback and post it in the feedback thread. The more different people posting about the same stuff, the more likely it is that change will occur. |

I like them. When I first saw them on Sisi I thought "hell no!" However I foud that I was very quickly able to adapt and when I switched back to Tq I then found the flaw in the old scheme - the colors were a riot, the details of the icons would not be distinguished properly which meant that the icon itself was "illegable." Did you ever actually tried to study closely the old icons in order to see what they were trying to depict? Not to easy or obvious.
The new scheme - while simplified (dirty word to many eve players) makes them clearer and more legible. My advise is give it some time.

The new icons all look the same. Very hard to tell them apart without wasting time.
CCP: I am NOT color blind, please return DIFFERENT colors to the icons. This monochrome stuff is giving me a headache, and takes several times longer to navigate due to the fact that without different colors I can no longer navigate the menus with my peripheral vision.

First of all, my opinion is not objective since I'm not a designer, but rather subjective one based on my preferences.
That being said, I like the minimalistic design of the new icons, since I generally like the minimalistic design in everything... from furniture and cars to UI. I may need some time to re-adjust my memory for the new icons since I was using the old ones for so long, but I'll eventually get used to it. A designer with experience sure could add something to ease that process (for example color like mentioned here), but I wouldn't honestly know how it would look until it's implemented and I can see it (not a visualizing type myself).
Regarding the color schemes, I have managed to make the exact Black non-transparent color scheme as I had with the old UI. I did however, decided to switch it as soon as I saw the option to match the color scheme with the type of the ship I'm flying. Seriously, that option is great. Now my UI can look fresh and be dynamic every time I switch ships.
Overall, my (subjective) opinion is that it's up to taste and personal preferences, but professional designers might have more objective input.

I agree with you about the icons. I don't mind that they went for the simplistic look, it's just the final design of the icons that bother me. Maybe some time down the road, we could have a choice of theme for the icons?
As for the colour schemes, I don't mind that so much. I personally have mine set to Dark Matter, which is pretty close to the previous colour scheme. Some of the other palettes arn't too bad either.
Why, thank you, Thing!

CCP did a new skin? OK, give me a choice to use Old one too. Why should I like new colourless UI ? I don't have to and I don't! Why someone in CCP decides for me? It's a simple skin for Gallente Gods sake! Give us choice!

I'll get used to this. Don't like it, but I'm running around with fatigue now. If I can deal with that, this will not stop me.
What is currently bugging me is the fact that windows/tables light up when you click them. Its distracting me and I havent found a way to get rid of it yet. |

What is the value of testing and giving feedback on SiSi? Honestly it seems to be a waste of time ...
For all the mentioned reasons the UI is a step backward in usability. I can eventually get used to it as long as the essential things in the HUD are unchanged, but there is two things that need to be fixed ASAP:
1. The highlighting of the whole window when activated has to go, this does not only distract you but also reduces the contrast of information inside the window making it much harder to identify, especially for the overview and the probe scan window. A subtle highlighting of the title bare is enough.
2. Stacking transparency is awful, as content from the headers shines through drop down menus making the entries unreadable. Setting transparency to 0 doesn't help!

Frankly, I like it. Clean and ordered. Some say it looks like an operating system... well, whats wrong with that? For a pod pilot it is an operating system. Sure, I've got to remember the new icons, but that is a task of a few hours play, especially given a lot of the symbols actually make sense, compared to the old symbols, half of which, quite frankly were just colour blobs it was so hard to distinguish (I mean, what were the market and fitting symbols depicting? I can take an educated guess, but they were far from legible).
This week, at work, we have just updated our drafting package from nearly a decade-old version (AutoCAD for those who know it), and I'm busily in the process of relearning several hundred slightly or not-so-slightly different icons, so the dozen in the new ui is barely worthy of mention. |

Looking at a screenshot someone else posted in the official feedback thread(which was hard to find and NOT in general) http://i.imgur.com/vPCSLoM.jpg This brings a tear to my eye when I realize what we just lost. Varied colors.. CONTRAST.. icons that actually tell me what each button does. I'm sure I can figure out that the graph line is the market, and such. In line with that, there are two medieval shield icons.. I thought about it for a minute as a test. and my best guess was:
Uh... oh yeah, the loyalty point store was the top left one wasn't it? maybe that's that one.. uh.. Cant remember the other, so no clue, need to mouse over to read the text..
Things I have trouble with(AFTER going through the trouble of seeing them clearly because they have no contrast) Test: can YOU tell what all of the icons are without mousing over?
Two flags. Medieval shield. Some.. thingy.. in a circle. A few random dots with lines between. A box with a smaller box in it and something behind it. The letter Z. A star that looks made of text. A box at a 45 degree angle.
CCP seriously, I will admit I'm no expert at design, but those things are Icons I literally have NO CLUE what they mean after minutes of staring(and the NO COLOR, NO CONTRAST bit makes staring necessary).
Do I really need to state what my opinion is at this point? I think my utter confusion and EYE STRAIN should make it easy for you to guess what I think.
I'm quite sure that I'll "adjust" by learning what this all means. Or get forced to learn all the shortcuts for everything. But that's really an excuse Isn't it?

Its kinda self-defeating when you cite as an example for an unrecognisable symbol, one that is the same symbol that it used to be (just a little decluttered). Go on, figure it out .

The new UI icons are from beyond the pale !
Color schemes suck a bit also but the match to ship color is great.
And CCP if you did a UI that sucks with the idea for us to memorize all the keystokes and so we dont need an UI (manual control) please count me out of that part.

Generally speaking I don't much care what CCP changes in the game as long as it continues to be available. I adapt to whatever they choose to do. But this time with the icon change, I agree with those who do not like it. The old ones were good ones.
CCP's sand box is EVE Online. The sand is owned by CCP. We pay them a monthly fee to throw the sand at each other. That is all that is here, so move along. Nothing more to be seen.

menu colors, eh, again hardly notice them. plus if you play with the settings they kinda seem to look the same as they used to. why do people always use the "eh, just deal with it and use the hotkeys" thing?
why dont we just remove ALL ui and graphics from EVE, just make it dots shooting numbers at eachother, afterall, you dont need anything to LOOK nice, just use hotkeys for everything, and obviously youll be zoomed out all the time, so no sense wasting money on an art department |

It's awesome!
But I got question: Why did CCP make things harder? What was the reason of UI change? What was wrong with old UI? Stupid changes that does not make any sence in every patch and NO STATIONS, CCP does not keep promises and people are leaving Eve. UI is everything, it's a part of gameplay, not The Grafics.
It's one of CCP's social experiments I guess, they want to know how many more players can leave Eve. Great Job CCP!

The same for the color schemes. The color just distract from the menus where they appear. The UI is really ugly now. I will continue to use them, but they are not ascetically pleasing. This update was a step backwards for the UI.
no, it's not just you, it's ugly AND useless. This is not just us having a reaction to change, it's us saying that we actually don't like it like this.
We can and will get used to it, but it smacks of the bad old days of CCP not listening to feed back because we told them all this on the test server and test server forum section.

Grr UI :( Now I have to rely on tooltips and memories of what was where to deal with the new icons on the neocom bar.
While getting rid of the bitmap icons in favor of the vectorized scalable ones surely has it technical benefits, the new UI is just pain-inducing. It is even LESS user friendly than the old one was.
Most people will stop whining and get over it after a time, though, so I have no doubt that those beautiful designs are in EVE to stay for a few years at least :\ |
