I just finished my Industry tutorial (at least I think it was Industry) and was given a blueprint for a Bantam (sp) ship. Well I had some of the mats already and bought the rest and built the ship. However, when I tried to make it active a message popped up that said I need to have Caldari Industrial to skill 1 before I can operate that ship?
I looked through all of my skill options and did not find it there to train? Is there somewhere else to go to train race specific skills? Maybe I can buy this skill too? |

You can buy all the skills, in the form of skillbooks. You only start out with a small set of skills. You need to inject the skill first, from a skillbook, and then you train it by adding it in your skill queue.
I dont remember if they give you a caldari industrial skillbook, but im sure they do. Try looking in your station inventory (Alt+C, then click on the tab on the left side, its the lowest one), and right click the skillbook and click "Train to level 1", or double click and manually add to your skill queue. |

You don't get the racial Industrial skillbook as part of the tutorials so you would have to buy it. If you're still in the station where you've been running the career agent tutorials they will be available there. The cost would be 300,000 ISK.
Most basic skillbooks are available from NPC sell orders (look for time remaining of 300 days plus) and they tend to be available at "school" corp stations (example, State War Academy). Some skillbooks have a restricted availability to certain empire regions, others only become available from LP stores, and even more remote stations. Many of these can be found as sell orders placed by players. |

Prior to the Phoebe update the racial industrial skills were restricted from trial accounts, so that would have been one reason why it isn't supplied. And there is isn't a tutorial mission that requires you fly one. |

Careful you don't get ripped off. In the "school" stations the NPCs sell them at the base price. If you are in a market hub, such as Jita 4-4, human players may be selling them at a substantial markup.
Sometimes it's worth it for the convenience. However, if you're not in Caldari space (that is, if you're in a region without any NPC sellers of that book) you won't even be able to see the NPC price in the "market details", so you won't know how much it's marked up. |

Okay, the school NPC's sell them at a base price. . .I am "stationed" at a school station I believe. Where are these NPC's you refer to? They are separate from the Mission Agents, yes? |

They simply appear as basic sell orders in the market. But as someone said above, NPC sell orders (and buy orders) can be identified by their expiration date. The longest a player can have an order active is 90 days. So any order expiring beyond that (usually over 300 days), is NPC. |

Relevant <--Bookmark this site and use it for quick price checks game wide as in game you can only see a region and while not very likely for this item it may be possible an entire region is having it's price manipulated for other items.
As described just look at the expiration of the sell orders if it is greater than 90 days it will be a NPC seller

You seem to have misunderstood what happens in that tutorial.
The agent provides a Bantam blueprint (5-run copy) from which he asks you to build one Bantam. When you've done that he takes the Bantam and rewards you by giving you a Badger.
Don't forget you can build 4 more Bantams from that blueprint! |

I'd have to check but I believe the minerals you need to use to build those Bantams are worth more than the hulls. That's because players with better blueprints can build Bantams more efficiently than you can with the basic blueprint.
You should still build at least one to learn about the process of production.

This might be worth you keeping in mind. Many a player makes their start in trading by bringing skillbooks from areas where they are sourced to areas where they are in demand. Of course, just remember that moving skillbooks isn't safe. Somewhere out there, someone is waiting for you to fly past them carrying skillbooks they want. And remember to research demand.

If its a Rookie system and they are Rookie free ships its likely because people are buying up unwanted free ships in the 100s with very low buy orders.
Add to that a few more ships from people mining ("what I mine is free") and making and selling ships using those BPC for a price below what they could have just sold the raw minerals for and you have a very nonviable market. |

He means NPC sell orders; the ones that have 365 days on them as players can only set an order for 3months at a time.
NPC orders are seeded regularly on certain items such as skill books where production cannot be trusted to players in any situation other such items are the implants that are sold only in LP stores and brought to markets by players. |
