Two years ago, I quit EVE.
I re-subbed for one month to respond to a few forum posts I had time to read whilst RL had slowed down temporarily for me. My rubbernecking nature gets the better of me sometimes, and there is nothing like watching a horrific car crash like EVE Online unfold, with every twisted piece of metal tumble all around in slow motion.
So, in two years - nothing has changed, in my most humblest of opinions.
I just dropped a 12,000 word document to CCP explaining what issues I have with EVE Online and CCP in specific and general terms, which I won't go into here - but did wish to say hello to the player-base and hope you are all doing well.
Sub ends on the 20th of February, so drop me a line here or on evemail and I'll hit you back.

ill humor you , go on
Seriously, wasn't baiting ;)
It's nothing that hasn't been said before on the forums, on email, over the phone or in person. Truthfully I just spend a few hours typing and didn't wish to retype it.
Just thought I'd say hello whilst I still can.

If you will no longer be needing your stuff, I could just accept that in contract form and find a whole bunch of new players that would benefit from your generosity. All donations were done two years ago.
Funny story: I went to Jita to try and give away the loose billions but after nearly an hour of typing in local chat - gave up trying to give the ISK away.

o7 Hello sir, Hopefully it wasn't my shitposting 'cause I can ease up a little if it'll convince you to stick around. Well, no promises, but yeah I can try. But aside from whatever inspires you to leave, do you mean there's nothing here worth staying for? No part of eve that gives you sufficient joy to keep playing? Maybe keep looking or better yet create it yourself. Can't change the tides but swimming in 'em can still be fun, especially when you're surrounded by people who look amazing in bikinis and board shorts. Sometimes no matter how hard you try, you cannot see the silver lining to something, because it doesn't exist.

Same here...I do know that I know OP, just checked his posting history and he used to be a semi-regular in OoPE 2 years ago. Not sure why I remembered your name, AK, but I am just going to assume it was because you are a swell guy and fun to hang out with, so um...nice to see you back and, uh, please don't go. During 2007 I posted about 30 videos/tutorials on video editing. Really basic stuff, but some people know/knew me for that.
Due to the Internet and specifically YouTube, editing standards are significantly higher now. Yet video encoding quality has dropped.
YouTube is 4:2:0, shadowplay is the same and I understand the ATI equivilant is also 4:2:0. This means there is tonnes of great content, but the quality of the picture is utterly dreadful. What you look at on YouTube now is a compression of a compression of a compression.
Gaming is 4:4:4 and due to the above, we never see it anymore in videos. Even if you used Fraps in RGB mode on a 2160P image and uploaded the original file to YouTube, it will still get compressed into 4:2:0 nastiness at 8mbits/sec
Thankfully, H265 & VP9 will solve this offensive position and I can watch YouTube gaming videos without wishing to throw up. Of course, the other end of the spectrum would also need to change with nVidia and ATI putting H265 encoding chips onto/into their cards.
At that point, the circle will be complete.
If anyone's interested, there is an H265 encoder out there on the market for free called 'Internet Media Encoder' and it can crunch gigabytes into kilobytes using 4:4:4 source files. Very impressive. I'm also a beta tester for Fraps ( have been since 2006 ) and I got an email from them stating the next version of Fraps should be ready to test soon.
I'm quite tangential, but you got me in a typing mood, sir ;)

I mean there are literally countless ways to enjoy yourself here, almost unlimited playstyles, open goals, and potential to basically do or achieve as much or as little as you desire. If you find no aspect of eve enjoyable at all, from any angle, then it sounds to me like it's just not the game for you(?), rather than there being an inherent problem with the game itself. I mean I could go and join (insert random game here) and find myself just not enjoying or agreeing with it. I could even write an essay to it's developers telling them how I'd like them to change it so that it is the game for me. But that's kinda silly. Instead when part of eve pisses me off or burns me out I go play something else that I love. Eventually always returning here though because, despite it's deficiencies (no game is perfect), it's still the best fun I've ever had online. But if it's not for you then...well...
My reasons were not just with the game but with CCP being able to make logical, rational and justifiable decisions - and not suffer from Ivory tower syndrome.
You should also learn that the people I started the game with are all but gone, got married, had children etc etc and I was one of the last.
I went to 0.0 on my first day in a noob ship with a civ mining laser, 5,000 isk and a dream. All the while I was using a dialup modem.
Prior to that, I was posting on the forums in 2001 before the game went live for testing, when people were just talking about this game and making suggestions.

Candi LeMew wrote:That's cool. Just hard to discuss, give feedback or anything real constructive when your precise reasons for how you feel aren't really on the table. In any case I'm sure you have your reasons and #respect. Good luck and have fun wherever you end up next! I'll stick around, despite being unhappy with certain aspects of the game, because I have a TON of fun with the rest of it. If you don't then sure, I don't think anyone's going to try to convince you otherwise. Having played many online games myself, spanning back twenty years (and working within more than one also) I learned that you gotta take the good with the bad. I find the balance here to my liking at least. The bits I don't like? Well I'm too busy having fun in the good bits to spend time trying to change the world. If you find yourself feeling the opposite then yeah, maybe it's not for you, regardless of 14 years spent banging your head against it. Best of luck sir n' have fun!!
#respect back.
Don't get me completely wrong - I love the players, but not the game and the decision inability making process behind the game.

Perhaps oddly, I didn't do it 'cause I think I'm badass, I did it because I wanted to go to the edge of the map and see what was there. For some reason I believed that the edge of the map wasn't the edge, and that the map would fill in once I got to the edge and I found a new system to explore.
In other words, I wanted to go where no pod pilot had gone before, find a new race of aliens, and then **** them - fly back and get my brown wings pinned on me from someone...
Alas, the map was the map and there was nothing new to explore - just more rocks to mine.

DaReaper wrote:I'm going toi disagree with the op. being here for nearly 11 years now, the past year has actually had huge improvements over the past 10. i feel less of ccp looking for the next big shiny and neglecting stuff. i see them actually following through with things, a few exceptions like the nestor, but all in all things are going well.
"Wasting development money" is a dumb criticism of a video game company. it really is. for its ccp money, and they need to expand to other products or they die. Nature of business. HOWEVER, the money they were spending on eve proper seems to be going to better use. As i said, it feels like features are less half assed, and and being taken to there final conclusion as opposed to a 'oh we will finish that later' and never touch again.
But hey that's just me.
CCP's money is divided against their investors and the revenue they yield from a number of sources.
The revenue of EVE is an incredibly significant amount of the revenue they get.
In other words, ten years worth of sub money, whether that is pilot licence extension or genuine monthly deductions; makes rational criticism of CCP development plans completely valid.
I could draw on dozens of examples over the years as I'm sure you could, where criticism was not just warranted, but justified with evidence of what the players did and did not want.
Ambulation is one such clear example - all that money over the last 7 years so people can stand in front of mirror and be bombarded with pop-ups. All the time, they got broken game mechanics everywhere and as you rightly say, they seem to be spending your money now in the right ways.
It's pacification development for gaming.

Like I said, it's like I never left.
Releasing fixes that should have worked at the planning stage and claiming it's a good thing - check Not even bothering to fix content because they lack the funds to do so, thanks to investors and illogical development decisions, yet all while claim it's because they are doing so at the behest of the player base - check Dangling shiny trinkets to pacify the players a tad longer so they will keep giving sub money - check Claiming they are a AAA studio when they are ignored and laughed at by the rest of the games industry and have no marketing funds to compete - double check
Y'see, it's not that hard for CCP to do just enough to keep players pacified and subdued so they can get just enough funds to do what they want and keep their jobs, and their investors happy. CCPGAMES have got a lot of talent working for them, but mainly this talent is in the last sentence, and over the years have become extremely talented at it.

Lack of new missions doesn't count btw.
The council have a long list of content which is broken.
And PvE is a significant part of any MMO, not that I'm familiar with what's been done in this part of new Eden over the last two years.

What if you actually never did leave?
I'm just answering Q's, but partly and gently stirring the pot - that, I cannot hide.
Not only did I leave, I was also contracted by Michael Read nearly Five Years Ago for a project. He has since left for Crytek as producer on Crysis3 and Ryse, which I'm sure we all know the news stories on those two projects from last year. Anything more on this would either break NDA or be woefully out of date with current internals. Last I heard due to Crytek issues, he now works at 2K. He also worked on WoD and Dust514...
I got a lot of respect for the CCP staff, in particular the video editing/cinematic dudes and dudettes, but not Michael...not by a long shot. He is one of few members of staff which CCPGAMES are better without. He's a nice guy to talk with, but he is not someone I respect.
Just my beliefs and impressions, but these - I trust.

Lol. CCP can't read.
Funnily enough, they asked me to JPEG the document because they can't read PDF files. All 7 pages of it.
Handy tip CCP: if you provide a text box on your website for people to fill in with reason why they are leaving, have appropriate space there. If you don't want to do this, be prepared for people to feel they want to email you the reasons in a universally recognised format.

You see, I still have yet to find this mystery company that releases perfect everything with never a single bug or issue with any feature, and by god I try to find it, I even checked in my kitchen cupboard under the sink and by golly you don't want to try looking in there.
Sometimes when no one is around I look up at a cloud and I try to make it into a shape of a rice pudding so that I can better understand the meaning of life, progress is slow, but I am trying.
Try Nintendo. Their games are near perfection. Blizzard are very high up there, but I have not played wow - but the sub count tells me it's a very well made game. Regardless of what you think about Blizzard, you cannot deny hearthstone, starcraft and Diablo. Rockstar is another, but have been let down by middleware supplying them poor code. Relic is yet another, because CoH, it's predecessors and successors are godlike in the RTS world and I've never encountered a bug with them at all.
I'm lying here in bed trying to think of some more...
I want to say Sega, but something tells me I'd be wrong. Hopefully I'm wrong about being wrong and I haven't put my foot in it.
