My problem exactly. Core2Duo, ASUS P5N32-SLI, 2GB, 7900GTX. It's almost as if the machine is too fast for Eve. I get 100+FPS and CPUs never hit 100%, it's not even stressing my PC.
Tell him to get a copy of Company of Heros and ditch Eve until Kali comes along.

I had another crash this morning on Jumping into erme system in Sinq. This time however, I had an interesting message when I tried to reconnect. It could possibly support my theory that my system is simply "too fast" for Eve.
OK, so I jump into Erme and CTD. So I immediatly relauch eve and get the following message : "Cluster has reached max user limit you are #64 in queue". Now at the time I figure, ok bit odd. So I shut down the client again and relog. This time it starts fine.
After talking to my mate at work (who also plays Eve) he mentioned that this was quite common for a node death (he plays down in catch region and they have plenty of node deaths due to fleet wars etc). So here's my theory.
My client connection to the Eve Proxy is fine, but when I undock or move to another system, the proxy has to change my connection to a different node. My client requests the node very quickly before the proxy has connected to the node, proxy says "sorry node not available", so the client thinks ok it's dead, i'll shutdown.
Is there someing in this or am I talking nonsense ?

I'm having the same dual CPU problem and CTD. CCP is giving me the same old check your drivers song and dance (which didn't work) I even told them about this thread and how alot of people are having this same problem.
Only the onecpu hack is working for me as well. Really sucks because I built a new computer just for this game now I have to castrate it just to play.
Specs...
Shuttle SN27P2 64X2 Dual Core AMD Athlon 4200+ CORSAIR XMS2 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) eVGA Geforce 7900GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card
All drivers current.

Why is nobody responding to this? Devs???
The common thread among us all seems to be ASUS motherboards. It is definitely not sound related as I have toggled audio to =0 in the config file and still had CTD's.
I have updated my nforce drivers for motherboard. I have updated my sound drivers. I have updated my video card drivers. I have uninstalled EVE, and reinstalled three times. I have all of my windows patches.
This is really starting to **** me off. It only happens when coming out of stations, or while jumping. It began with Dragon. Someone seriously needs to at least say "we're looking into it".
AMD 4800 X2 ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe 2 gigs ram dual 7900gt's
Everyone pls stfu about sound, so we can focus on the issue.

Every other game is stable, great framerates. I have run Oblivion full on, while decoding a DVD, with other apps running and never had a crash. I recently started playing EVE. On the first day had a couple crashes... by the fourth day it crashes almost every docking/jump.
There are so many CCP apologists on this board that it's laughable. Just because your dookie systems run the game fine doesn't mean that every crash for someone else is system related. It is the client's inability to properly run on a certain system configuration that is the issue.

I posted a possible fix for dual-core issues on the second page of this thread. Can people please try it and report back? No guarantees, but this trick is known to fix CTDs at least on some machines.
To recap:
Quote: Add the line advancedDevice=1 to the prefs.ini file and then load Eve and in the graphics section of the preferences window change the 'present interval' setting to interval one. Also try this in window mode as well as full screen.

Good News!
Someone suggested playing in windowed mode. I have verified that this works. I have not had a CTD since i began playing in windowed mode on Friday.
So if anyone is actually looking at this issue, it is only happening in full screen.

I think many of us have tried this and found it wasn't helping....well it didn't for me anyway It's a real odd one this....certain fixes are working for some people and not for others.

make sure you get the optimizer for the AMD duel core from www.amd.com and they newest driver from there. If ou are thinking that windows update has the newest drivers it doesn't. just so you know I am not full of ****, I have a AMD 4400+ x2, 2 gig ram, ATI Radion x800, SB Live 24bit. I also run omega drivers for my vid card drivers.
SB audigy 2's and there drivers for this card cause issues with EVE and a few other games, it has been the curse of the audigy since the first audigy sound card came out. That is why ppl are saying sound issues. I had the whole CTD when I had my audigy2 installed and turned off sound and still had CTD had to pull it out and delete the drivers and then wala no more CTD I can run in both window and full screen with no problems at all.

What does the optimizer do? I heard someone say that it slows down your performance. I really don't want to do that when CCP may be able to fix the problem.
But I don't mind windowed mode and it works, so I'm happy for now. I wouldn't call it a "fix", but it sure is better than what other people seem to think is a "fix" (running without sound).
DIE! ok don't die, i'm just kidding, are you ok?

I have this optimizer installed, playing in window mode, but it doesn't prevent Eve from random freezes, so freezing that I can't even do a soft reset ...
Any devs want to answer ?

Well I was getting all the crashes, lockups and BSODs that most others seem to be getting , I installed all the latest drivers, patches and fixes, tried all the boot.ini tricks, disabled audio in game and tried 3 different audio cards (on board realtech, Hercules Game theater XP, and my current Audigy 2zs platinum pro) but still kept getting problems. in the end I disabled cool 'n quiet, and I managed to play for well over 5 hours strait without a single crash and no need to set to single processor mode or set affinity to use only one core.
I'm going to try again with audio enabled and see how far I get but I think I managed to solve my problem, so if you havent all ready tried turn off cool 'n quiet in the bios and see how you get on.
oh btw sys spec is: AMD Athalon 64 X2 4200+ MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Asus v9999GE Creative Audigy 2zs platinum pro 2GB RAM

If your system is liquid cooled, it should be ok without cool and quiet right?

I too was experencing frequent crashes and locksups. Couldn't go 5 systems without a jump into a new system causing a crash. So I decided to format my machine and start from scratch. Got WindowsXP back and all that garbage, and installed brand new drivers for everything - but I did NOT install the AMD Optimizer.
That's right, no optimizer. Just the latest AMD processor driver. It worked for me, so maybe it might help a few of you.
My setup (Just to see if you have something similar)
AMD 4400+ X2 ASUS A8N SLI Premium GeForce 7800 GTX (xfx made) Corsair RAM 2 GB Montego DDL Sound Card
A point of note, a friend of mine has the exact same setup as myself; both of us have come to the conclusion that this setup is somewhat unstable without proper driver management and fiddling with it.

Don't laugh at the newbie.
Cool n quiet just slows the processor and fan down to reduce noise when not under load, disabling just means your processor runs at it's stock speed (or OCed speed) and the fan at a constant speed.

Well guys I guess the problem is fixed and we are all crazy. I just got this last message in my petition from GM Retrofire before I closed it with a terse message of my own.
"Whether the problem is in our software or not I can't say but installing the upgrades we suggested has solved almost all players's problems."
I sent him a link to this thread. Obviously he decided that I made it up.
I'm just going to get a single core processor and be done with it.

I have the same ctd with my x2 3800+.
most of the time at jumpgates or when I, leave a station.
Total pain in the ass, if I must add. Running latest drivers, stable system, and only EVE seems to be having problems.

Bomb, you know I think you might have hit the jackpot !
I have not had a CTD on jumping or undocking since making these changes a few days ago. So far so good. I am not sure what the advancedDevice=1 function does but certainly the "interval one" setting is basically enabling v-synch. My FPS is pegged to max 60fps, which is no great problem.
I will continue to monitor for a couple of weeks and report back.

Seeing as this thread had dropped to page 4 I can only assume people are not seeing the CTDs any more ?
I had my first CTD for over a week just last night. which is way better than the numberous CTDs before. So either CCP fixed something or the changes suggested earlier in the thread have worked around the problem.

Well I applied the advice given by BombCrater and I played for over 8 hours yesterday without a single CTD! This was after having 4 succesive CTD's the day before all on undocking from the same station.

Originally by: Karash Amerius Well...there has been numerous threads on this forum stating that several patches ago, Eve started to randomly crash to desktop for quite a few players. So far there has not been (as far as I can tell) any Dev response, or updating of known issues regarding this. From my own reading and following threads related to this issue, a vast majority of common system traits include AMD dual core processors. While some reports have also been centered around Intel dual core processors. While some cases can be attributed to specific player's system flaws or problems...the sample size we have clearly indicates a real problem with the Eve Client.
I think its time for some sort of Dev input here, in the form of a blog or comment here on this thread. Reading some of the Tech Support suggestions given by GMs to players is laughable. Reseating memory, video cards, playing with sound off...all have not worked. My guess is that the GMs have to give some sort of advise, as it is their job. However, I think the problem is generally accepted that somewhere along the patching process CCP introduced some sort of memory leak or video glitch to crash the client.
What I would like to see is for players to simply "/sign" this thread and add their system specs they play EVE on. Many bug reports and logfiles have already been uploaded on this issue. Now is the time for some feedback from the Devs if at all possible.
Problem: Seemingly random crash to desktop when using gates, stations, or any other "session change". Rarely, if ever, happens when just sitting in station.

Windows xp 32 bits dual core amd 3800+ 8600 gt 1 go memory all drivers update dual core amd optimizer install
Here is the problem :
When dual core is activate eve have fps / 2 or by 3 and its extremely annoying for pvp you know what i mean. This issue happen only with eve , games like Lost Planet , Oblivion , Rainbow six vegas , Test Drive Unlimited etc etc don't have any problem. Change core affinity in ctrl+alt+supr tab isnt enough for fix the prob.
For fix the problem the computer need to be force to boot on 1 core only. (using the command :multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP single CPU" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /onecpu in boot.ini).
In the "Boost Fps" topic there is other peoples with similar systems and problem.
I don't have much hope about all this problems fixes i guess they are just expecting new graphic engine will do it.
