Make all NPCs in a mission auto-aggro on any ship attempting to shoot/steal the mission objective. It makes perfect sense... the NPCs are there to protect the objective, so they shouldn't just look the other way while someone grabs it. This makes everyone happy:
* Mission runners are no longer harassed by the most obnoxious of the probe tactics.
* Pirates only lose the least profitable thing they can do once they probe a mission deadspace. It's a small loss to the pirate, since the odds of actually gaining anything from it are near zero.
* Empire wars and low-sec killing are unaffected. Mission areas can still be probed and don't provide an invulnerable safe haven to war targets.
* A determined thief can still do it even, they just have to invest a lot more effort than they do now. Instead of a casual attempt in a shuttle, now they have to invest enough effort to tank the whole mission long enough to finish the job.
So the end result: stealing the mission objective becomes a difficult and mostly unappealing idea, but without imposing frustrating and unrealistic "do this and be banned" rules.

Then the problem is catching the target before he warps out. If he's fast enough, he can wreck the mission and warp out before you can do anything about it. And with insta-docking for everyone, you can't even chase him down and kill him.

as a professionl empire pirate that harasses NPC corp mission runners in empire im totally against it sure let the NPCs aggro or switch targets if i jump a mission runner but please allow me the ability to maintain eves promise of PVP anytime anywhere in the right circumstances - mission runners need to forget the cosy element of the game and be subject to what everyone else is good work CCP and to those pirates taking on the C bears

Again I dissagre, and your argument is self-contradicting:
If not to many people were soloing, there wouldn't be a reason to harras them as they would not exist. They are being harrased because they are easy to find, because they are many, because a LOT of people like to solo. And now even more, thanks to Lofty. |

right of reply here - ppl solo because they are lazy - and cant be bothered with a so called multiplayer online game.
They are easy to find - ppl have been whining over a lack of PVP - what most whiners are proposing is we wrap all mission runners up in cotton wool and let em avoid all danger. This is essentially the crux of the argument Eve is a PVP game not a carebear shootout against AI targets.
Ppl like to solo - go buy some PC offline game this is the internet this is a multiplayer game end of story relaly

Most fun: warp in, shoot each of the better ships once and warp out without leaving the system. The mission runner has to pop all the ships in many missions so you will get the bounties without any danger or hard work.
The improved scanning system is a typical 'Fantastic idea under drunk conditions'. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

My dear, you are not doing PvP. Your target is a NPC, you pick a NPC drop, you don't attack the PC. So stop hiding behind the PvP everywhere. You aren't fighting with the PC, you are using the game mechanics to get an easy picked can while someon other is fighting. If you kill the target NPC you aren't even sthealing (formally), you are onli griefing. So try to be less hypocrite. If you want so much to satiate your crave for PvP, attack us. But apparently you don't want a fight. You only want to aggavate the other players and getting away easily. Don't forget the wap stabber when you came in the mission area. Maybe a rat will disrupt you.

Griefing empire mission runners is not a good thing for the game. While it may be fun (and even profitable) to do so, most of the mission runners will see it as pure griefing.
Like it or not, a lot of EVE players don't play EVE for PvP. They play it to relax a bit, maybe run some missions alone or with friends.
These players are just as valuable to the game as the PvP'ers. They pay the same subscription, and since there seem to be a hell of a lot more of them than PvP'ers, they're actually the ones who pay for most of the game!
Allowing grief players to ruin this may chase a lot of them to other games, which is not good for EVE (less money = less servers, less expansions, less bug fixes), which is why I think something needs to be done to prevent this type of griefing. Perhaps preventing scan probes from working on mission gates or within mission space in 0.5 space and up would be an idea....

I dont know if you can call stealing the mission loot PVP, it really just is griefing, had it been PVP the missionrunner should be able to kill them without Concord saving the wannabe pirate. Talk about flaming carebears.
Hell, give the missionrunner an option to shoot anyone that warps into his mission, even in high sec, needless to say the other guy can shoot back, if the missionrunner decides to shoot at him. Hell I might even go back to high sec and have some fun, just sitting at the warp in point waiting for some high sec chickenpirate to warp in.
