This comes up a bit more in low and null but is relevant in highsec too.
Welcome to the bottom of the food chain, pal. Hopefully you learn enough survival tips to not lose everything. Is that really needed in Q&A? hah
Pro tip: learn to use your d-scan, use it. Even in hisec. Don't fly what you cannot afford to lose. Fit as if you are expecting trouble (i.e don't leave a huge gaping hole at least) You're not the bottom of the food chain, miners and mini-game explorers are

I also get the time thing, it takes time to be good at anything, so I'm still training up the basics while I decide. Boring how? Have you done anything like it in other games before? Generally, lvl1 missions are just as boring as lvl4 missions Unless you are talking about them just being absolutely too easy. They can be more challenging at higher levels, at least a little more thought to do them. A good alternative is FW missions. The end progression for mission runners is generally incursions. For most though, I think most, mission running is just a source of income, to fund other activities in the game.

Yeah I guess I mean the majority of the ones I've been given are too easy. I'd have been on level 2 missions but the agent corporation I started with didn't have any level 2 security agents so I've had to start again with a different corp.
Small rats are dying faster than I can target new ones.
Hopefully when I get to level 2 missions they'll be a bit more of a challenge.
I'll have a look at Faction Warfare to see what it's all about when I've built a bit of isk up :)
Something like this, fair intro to fw missioning. You're primary concern right now is less about isk and more about training up your core skills, they will serve you very well. lvl3 missions start to become more interesting on avg. There are some good lvl2's for destroyers and AF's (e.g. Vengeance - one of my favs) or their t1 equivalents (e.g. Punisher). As a combat pilot, the isk will start to flow well in time, missions are a very good source of income.
Recommended you pick up a little probing too, eventually. Also marketing at some point. Make sure you have a link to eve-survival.
