Hi. I have all subsystem skills for the proteus at V, and kinda want to use it. I have not too much experience with cruiser pvp (mainly do frigates). So wanted to ask here (hope it is the right subfora?) before I end up on the wrong end of an embarrassing loss mail. The proteus fits that are around seems to be mostly for wormholes, and often blasters. I thought about warping in on people running sites in lowsec, pehaps decloak on the way in and scram kite them at 12-14 km. I would like to hear if people think it would work(I am a little concerned with the damage tbh.), or if a lachesis which i can also fly would be better?

seems squshy for a t3, imo go buffer and blasters.
also , if you want to fly Armour t3's invest in a high-grade slave implant set, its hard to understate how much of an effect they have.

You are trying to use Frigate tactics with a ship known for beefiness and facemelting... not speed and utility.
I HIGHLY recommend that you play around with the Thorax (and later on the Brutix) before you use a Proteus. Bigger ships require different tactics and mentalities.

As mentioned, the Proteus is best as a brawler.

Thanks very much for the replies. Had hoped it would be viable without blasters as that seem to be the way everyone fits it. I do understand the points about it being beefy and not too agile, though. Will practice in the thorax to get comfortable with the blaster setup, perhaps throw in an occational brutix untill I would be comfortable flying something like Orlacc posted, then. |

Nice fit, you spent few hundred mills on damage mods and fit t1 rigs. |

If only the proteus didn't have a decloak targetting delay that would prohibit you from the very thing you are trying to do with the wrong boat.

I actually like your fit alot. You can keep out of the enemies scram, deal good dps and have gtfo ability. You have a good tactic to go with it. Only thing I would change is trading one magstab for a bit more resists |

You'll be in deep falloff, but you'll have far better tracking than with 250mm railguns with a FAR higher potential for damage at closer ranges.

I got the point loud and clear . Was just trying to experiment, didn't do it well and learned from it. I am still not feeling sure if I wanna sit in a 1 bill slow buffer brawler tbh. even if it deals out high DPS. Your GTFO ability is bad if something goes wrong (the hunter being the hunted). I don't like this too much, and have accepted this is not the ship for me. I just wish I had not trained for it now, and invested in the ship but hey perhaps I will do some WH stuff or smartbombing in the future, who knows. |

Proteus is a fine pvp-ship with either blasters or rails, but it's just not a very good solo/small gang ship, because it's a slow brick. It work well as a fleet-ship when you have backup to help you get around the negatives. |

if you are looking to go hunting you should find a group that does this and join up, you will learn much faster and expensive hulls like the Proteus become waaaay more viable

Concerning the Cloaky Proteus as a solo pilot, you're either hunting ships in combat sites in which case the posts above are fine, or you're hunting stabbed relic/data/gas explorers. If that's the case check out the faction smarty version first suggested by Trinket's Friend and made popular by Bex (I mention this only to give you another proteus option).
If you want do Cloaky kiting, you're probably going to be better off with the Loki in Heavy Rapier mode. Its dps is anemic, but at least it's somewhat selectable.
Most people have settled on the idea that the Strat is probably the best Cloaky solo killer right now.

Because he wouldn't put T1 rigs w/ faction mag stabs on a proteus? |
