Hello, maybe i am doing something, not sure if some one can help me out here. I notice a gang of players being pirates in low sec so decided to fight them in my cyclone. I waited for them to engage me and go suspect first then i engaged them back. They ended up bringing two rooks so deciding disengage and jump through the gate. After i warped off and got into safety i noticed i too received a suspect timer. I only engaged players that were suspect and never engaged any one who who wasn't. so i am confused as to how i acquired a suspect timer. This has happened twice now and so i am unsure and a little hesitant because of this. can any one enlighten me what i could be doing. |

Are you sure it was a suspect timer?
You will have received a limited engagement timer when you started firing on the suspects. That is to allow the suspects to fire back ie; defend themselves.
What colour was your safety setting ?(The coloured dot to the top left of the capicator wheel thing). Its green by default which means you can not go suspect. Did you change it?
Edit: You will also get a PvP logoff timer, which could be mistaken for something else too.

If you have a suspect timer it will either be an orange or red symbol with a skull, if it's not one of those the other symbols can safely be ignored.

Had a limited engagement timer to all of them. which lasted the typical 5 mins.
I had the logoff timer as well and my security setting was set as partially disabled (Yellow). when i Saw i was suspect i decided to warp to my alt which was one system over and check it on his overview and i was flashy yellow on it as well so it wasn't any local client bug or anything.
The only target i engaged before being jammed was a Cynabal, he initially jumped thru the gate and tackled me on the other side. rest of the gang followed when i agressed him. |

You will have shot someone you didn't have the right to shoot then. Or took someing from a can maybe. If you want to make sure you don't go suspect, best to change the setting back to green.
Also check your overview settings. You could have it set up so another state gives the same indication as a suspect would show. If you think its a bug file a bug report (F12 ingame) next time it happens.

If you're in lowsec, you pick up a suspect timer for shooting someone who isn't a legal target for you. you pick up a criminal timer if you shoot a pod.

Either the notification system or the combat log may track the flags and your status, if you check the appropriate boxes in their settings. At the very least, the combination of combat log and notifications will allow you to concentrate on fighting (so you don't explode) and review what happened with the flags later, once you're safe. |

I figured it out, I only recently come back to eve and was not all too familiar with how the kill rights system works. It turns out a player made a kill right available to every one and i wasn't aware that it can be activated more than once if i didn't explode. so it's just some one activating my the kill right. Thanks for the help guys! |

Yeah kill rights, I remember when I was travelling back to Amarr in a quite expensive and slow(!) ship and noticed only when I was docked being suspect since a couple of jumps ... Then I sacrificed a shuttle and pod (because stupid) to BOB to clear the kill right and left the game for the evening with a bit of shaking hands ...
