Hi all, Probably around October, the Pod & Planet EVE fiction contest will open and run for a month. It's in its fifth year, and people have submitted some truly amazing stuff over the years. And a lot of them submitted with the preface, "This is my first time trying something like this, I've never written any fiction before."
So, since quite a few people know about the event, and are probably already working on stories for it, I just wanted to post this FYI. The prizes pool might be about 60 bil isk or so, but that's just filthy lucre. Prizes, no prizes, the fun of the event is everybody writing, having their stories read by many people, seeing how they fared with the judges, and hopefully being inspired to write more. Here's last year's contest site, with information. The rules will be the same this year. So if you want to start writing up 100 entries that fit into that framework, feel free and start now!
Any questions or comments, please just say in this thread. o7

Ah, my favorite fiction contest returns. :)
I wasn't able to draft any stories last year due to IRL commitments, but I definitely plan to submit a few entries for this year's contest! Looking forward to all the amazing fiction that comes from this :D |

Cool and o/, Korsavius, looking forward to reading your works again! And if you have a writer friend or a thinking about writing friend, bring him or her with you. heh The point of this event is encourage people to sit down and bang their ideas out into words. And also give them a venue for presenting their works, where they'll be read. And for reading other writers' stuff, and getting new ideas too. That kind of stuff. :] |

Some of the stories that has come to light due to this contest is some of the best I have read!
With no hopes of winning I'm planning to enter as well this year, for (as Sam mentioned) the fun and just to show my support for a great competition
Thank you for running this Sam!

I think I can cut down my original writing for that contest for yours. Is that acceptable or can I submit for only one of them? For this contest, the story can't have been publicly posted anywhere else before.* But if you're trimming an 11,000 word chapter down to a 5,000 word stand-alone story, that would be eligible for entry. It would basically be a new work.
*Reason: The first year of the contest, EON magazine was going to publish the winning story in their next edition. They didn't want to publish something that people had already read on the internet. In later years we had to stay with the rule, because the prize pool was pretty big, and people wanted to enter stories they'd written years before to get a chance at winning a prize. That could open the door to many, many Eve fiction stories that have been written over the years. The judges already have 60-100 new stories to read; opening the door to a possible flood of older stories too is too much to ask of them. |

Neph wrote:Would Napanii-language translations of existing fiction be considered? Wow. Interesting! The current rule is that any story being considered for a prize has to be in English. That's only because trying to put together a crew of judges covering all languages wouldn't be practical. There's also a rule that all entries must be "your own work." In this case the story (plot and narrative) wouldn't be your own work, but the translation would. , two options:
-You could enter the story in one of the categories, but I suspect the judges won't award it a prize. Just because they won't be able to read it, and it would be a translation of an existing story, rather than a new original story.
-We can create a category for works that aren't entered for competition, but participate in the event nonetheless. In other words, posted and shared for everyone to read. That might be the better option.
When you're ready to submit your story, EVEmail me and we'll figure it out. Looking forward to seeing it! |

Here is a data core of something interesting pulled from the wreck of an ancient freighter left to deteriorate thousands of years ago.
I have just recently been able to understand its meaning and patched together the thought from the pages of notes that I read.
Suspended Stasification Aeffectation
The other Doorway....
Time traveling is similar to FTL (Faster Than Light) travel. The faster that you travel the more space that you occupy. The question is once the body crosses the threshold of FTL and Time Travel does the body die due to gravity not being able to regulate the heartbeat properly?
A fascinating aspect of death at FTL and TT is that if the body dies the body would not begin to decompose because the chemical processes involved with bacteria would not be present because the bacteria would have also have died. So does death really occur or is the body placed into a state of suspended stasification where not even exposure to radiation would aeffect, pronounced eye-ffect or the body being influenced by something and the effect that created suspended stasification that is only possible when traveling at FTL and faster as well as Time Traveling, would not influence the process of decomposition. If true and the body is in fact placed into a state of suspended stasification aeffectation because of gravity not being able to regulate the heart beat of the human and bacteria, would the body return to a normal state of being alive once the human body returned to a dimension of space-time that was governed by the heart of gravity within the area that human body was occupying? Would the human brain retain the memories that had been stored in electrical patterns? Would the human remember who they were or would the human have to start again from the beginning and relearn everything that they had previously known?
More importantly though is the thought that if humans do go into a state of suspended stasification aeffectation at FTL speeds then life would exist at the velocity of FTL and faster velocities that when the life residing above FTL velocities slows to a velocity that a heart would be affected by gravity to creating a pumping of circulation then life would be created. Life that would be created across the Universe and even outside of the Universe as well. |

Currently prize pool totals a little over 54 bil ISK. Prizes will be a mixture of ships, nice item loot, EVE-Bet ISK credits, and raw ISK. The detailed mix for each category will be shake out as we go along. Amounts are rounded down so you may receive bonus sauce on top at the end. Check back often, all the way until judging is complete and winners are announced. Kind and cheerful people tend to donate additional loot as the contest progresses. GÇï
Grand Prize Plex, 3 Bhaalgorn, Skill Injector & Liquid ISK = 7.5 bil This prize usually goes to the best story in the 8,000 Suns canon-faithful category, but if a story from either of the other categories gets a score that really outstrips the best in 8,000 Suns, it could steal it.

Story Device - Drifter Battleships.
Drifter Battleship CONCORD's analysis of this battleship has been hampered by its advanced hull and shielding. The propulsion system is unfamiliar but tentative theories have suggested that the vessel somehow directly interacts with the fabric of space-time while moving.
Time is the distance between energetic particles that interact with each other. For example you have two red recess rubber balls, the ones we all used to use to annoy the cutie in the pigtails with. One person throws a ball each towards the other ball. Time is the measurable distance between the ball and atoms in the air and the atoms comprising the components of the ball as well.
Space is the medium in which Time occurs. Space is a measurable distance as well as long as Time exists.
As the two balls travel closer and closer together they displace the medium between them eventually colliding where each ball exerts and receives an amount of pressure based on force.
The same is basically true with planets, suns and black holes in space but more so planets that since there are more of would constitute more gravitational energy present in Universe compared to suns and black holes. As two planets come close to each other their gravitational fields collide. Its during the collision process and the transfer of energy that the Drifters interact with space-time.
Using still unknown technology Drifters are able to harness the energy that is present during a gravitational field collision between planets to generate a gravitational wavelength in equilibrium to the gravitational collision itself. Using other forms of technology the Drifter BS then reduces the mass of particles in its path basically creating Non-Grav Space that allows the Drifter BS to capitalize directly on energetic systems that were present before the Universe came to be. |
