With the addition of the new alpha state clones, perhaps it's time to revisit the PLEX concept by adding a shorter term option for those weekend warriors.
The Micro Plex is purchased the same way that plex is now, just in bundles of 10 packs.
The cost could be slightly higher, but still offer a savings to those who only play casually and not in 30 day runs. As an example a 2 plex price is going for $34.95, where a 20 pack of Micro 3-Day passes could be sold by CCP for $45. It's the same sub time of 60 days, just more usable to many part timers. CCP still gets a value, as does the player.
Micro-Plex = 3 Day Omega Login Pass
An alpha (non subbed omega) player who really can't afford the ISK plex of 1 Billion (at this time), may find the drive to grind his free alpha for a $125 Million ISK Micro Plex so that he/she can play with friends over the weekend. Friends can also afford to give them a bit easier to get players back in game.
Just a thought. |

This. Not liking eve for the 1 month sub of 15, or adjusted price for plex, chances are its a sign you don't want to really play.
Recent return myself after a break...its taken 2 weeks to get the feel of the changes, get settled in, etc. Still a bit to go. The 1 month price not going to waste really. The other plex (got 2) won't either I imagine.
My old standard rule of MMO subs....not thinking you will get enough enjoyment for the month, drop the sub. At 3 days this not even covering eve's always training sp aspect really.

no, a subscription is $12/mo. If you can't afford $12/mo for something that gives you dozens of hours of entertainment every month, you need to spend less time on video games and more time finding a better job IRL |

Just a thought. You tried. It makes sense, but let's look deeper.
imagine someone knows there's a fleet once a week. He only plexes for the weekends and doesn't play at all during the week, even if he could.
Some good reasons why it's not just a few days, are because ...
... 30 days feel like a lot for only 15 bucks. Three days on the other hand, for 1.50 or 2,-- are cheap. And no one is going to pay five bucks for three days, when 15 pay for a month. Yeah, that's people. I kid you not, though i wish.
... when people know they're subbed, they'll log on more simply to get more out of their money. Every player is a potential multiplier that affects more people, which means more content. And it's good for the login numbers.
... it kind of turns EVE into an arcade game. CCP wants people to invest time into the game. To see it as a hobby, not a game. Your micro-plex idea doesn't fit this at all.
Wasn't too bad, though. Your post isn't full of mind twisting logic that makes people cringe.

I think the idea of micro plex, would just turn subscription players into alphas, with an occasional activation when they want to do something.
The idea of a timed upgrade beyond alpha but without a full sub DOES have some value, but ONLY if it was obtained by in game play. Something to replace lower grade skill implants going forward possibly?
Pull newbies into experience what a bit more than alpha is, and get them addicted to better clones, before becoming full omega? Sort of a gateway drug!
The reason I mention IN Game is so that CCP does not get accused of a cash grab.
That aside, nothing would prevent them being sold, it would give options other than sub or plex, just not if cash was the ONLY source of them.

what about the players that only game work days? 3 day olex dont work for them.
in that case it would be better with 24 hour plex |

Well, thanks for the responses. It's all good.
I'm sure most of you would have cringed with the idea of EVE being free to play just a short while ago, before the alpha state announcement.
Perhaps most missed the primary goal of a Micro-Plex and that was to stimulate the Alpha into turning into an Omega with a more easily accessible option. One that can also be purchased in game just like a Plex can be, but only at 1/5 or less the cost. Many gamers will only login a couple times a month as a side line. The market would decide the Micro-Plex value, but I'm guessing that this idea is not new to CCP and will be implemented within one year of this post, basing off their current policy shifts to F2P.
If the 30 day plex is a better deal, as most would agree, then the Omega players would exercise that option.

Can an alpha clone be converted to an omega by plexing it? Can that plexed omega clone be farmed for SP?
This I need to know (so that my alpha clone hate setting is at the correct amount) |

I can't find the quote ATM, but I read they won't grant the ability to extract skills gained with an alpha clone, even if it's converted to omega |

If you can convert alpha to omega and then extract, this micro plex garbage would be a great isk saver. The timing may only be coincidental, but it appears to be an extra extra bad idea if it can improve SP farming (a profession that isn't needed in eve - I accept that it exists, but it will never need a buff to improve game play) |

The extraction process makes no difference for Omega VS Alpha clones, in that only Omega skills will be able to be extracted and they can only be acquired via a subscription of any kind. If the worry is a short term Micro-Plex, again it makes little difference since only 3 days worth of Omega skill points would be gained during the short sub time, and why would you limit those paid for skill points from being extracted?
Omega time is all the same, and Alpha Race skills will be locked. |

The abuse of game mechanics made possible with a micro subscription would be spectacular.
Many things in industry have 14 and 30 day cycle limits.
Any subscription option below 30 days puts those areas of the game at high risk for abuse.
