I've held off making a post like this, waiting until the EC's came out to see what their timers would be like, but with them apparently having the same 24-hour deploy and 7-day scoop timers as Citadels have, I feel it's safe to assume that all the future structures are going to have these timers.
I worry that this will cause problems in the future related to day-tripping and nomadic play-styles, since the deploy / scoop times would be rather meaningless for day-tripping, and the 7-day scoop time would be bad for nomads.
Essentially, it's a single-sized structure that goes up fast, comes down fast (an hour each, at most), but is pretty flimsy. A long post-deploy vulnerability period to make up for the lack of a 24-hour deployment period, daily vulnerability times (as opposed to weekly), no modules, rigs, or services, and only the necessary functionality to cover a small / medium POS with an SMA and CHA. Namely, docking, tethering+repair, and corp hangars / office (the corp hangers / office aren't even that important if the ability to trade and issue contracts to your mates are available, it's just a more convenient way to shuffle things around). Roughly the same size as an Astrahus (in packaged volume) is fine, as well, since it fits nicely in a Blockade Runner or DST.
Something like this should have no asset protection, and should be fairly easy to kill. Only one reinforcement period that ends a day after it enters, and a pretty low DPS threshold (2,500 DPS over 15 minutes to kill, perhaps), with a lengthy repair timer.
Hopefully it would also cost roughly the same as a fit-up small or medium POS, as well (250-400 mil), to basically function as a temporary base of operations that will be relatively easy to destroy, and would be a terrible place to try to use as a long-term base.
In fewer words, please provide us with a camping tent to go on trips with. Something that will protect us from a light rain and wind while working or sleeping, but is going to blow over at the first sign of a real storm.
ANYWAY! The exact specifications are less of a concern compared to getting a bug in CCP's ear about providing a structure that would work as a reasonable replacement to small or medium towers for day-trips and nomadic play-styles.

Sounds like what you are looking for is a mobile depot.

He wants the equivalent of a POS. Which is entirely reasonable for a small corporation operation. CCP currently lacks any new structure for small groups to use in low sec or 0.0. Offering up a mobile depot is just silly once you get past one player.
CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

They're an ineffective option for anything more than a single person, and even then, with a mobile depot, that single person is going to be limited to a single ship unless they're bringing an alt with an Orca or similar, which itself basically defeats the point of a mobile depot.
A few of the things that a small POS plus an SMA have over a mobile depot:
1. A more meaningful way to organize a small group. 2. A place for said small group to base out of and regroup at. 3. A place that small group to store a few extra ships for when they lose some. 4a. An objective for the locals to target to drive the day-trippers / nomads out. 4b. An objective for the day-trippers / nomads to protect.
Mobile depots are extremely restricted and provide nothing more than a place to refit and temporarily stash a few items and don't provide adequate replacement to a small POS and SMA for a small corp.

remember when a small wh group could use capitals? no need to shell out 12b just to get out of them? yeah looks like those days are over. CCP could not find anything to give to large groups so they just had to restrict the gameplay of smaller ones

I made a suggestion a while back for a capital class ship that was basically a deployable mini-pos. I stand by it.
The basic idea is a dedicated suitcase capital. It's got fitting space for SMA, refining, etc. but has to deploy to structure mode and consume fuel to activate these modules, but the structure fuel bay as quite small, and it doesn't have a reinforcement timer. The general idea being something you could fly to a point, deploy, then hop in to a subcap to go do whatever. People can come along and shoot it in to structure and kill it on the first encounter, but they'd have to scan it down first.
With the new structure modules, you could basically just give it slots to fit structure modules with tight fitting space to specialize it for defense, refining, etc, and it would provide a mobile platform for nomadic operations. For balance, limit its rigging capacity and structure module slots so that it can't compete with more permanent structures. |
