I recently reactivated an old alt account to try out the new Alpha clones and since there have been updates to the way account management works recently, I decided to update my email address to a more current and appropriate one for my gameplay purposes. I have done thins with my other EVE alt accounts, however recently there has been a change I do not undeastand. On 3 of my main accounts I have the account email listed as: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] ...etc...
When updating the email on my reactivated account, I was told by the web form that the email format was invalid. The problem is the "+" symbol in the email account. Gmail offers this email format to allow for better creating filters to sort incoming mail. My other accounts still have and use the email addresses with the "+" symbol in them, but I cannot update this last account to reflect and continue the pattern.
So my question/concern is this: Why was this changed? Was it on purpose? If so, why? If not on purpose, can it be changed back? I honestly don't see the harm in allowing 1 "+" in an email address, esp when it is accepted by one of the largest providers of email currently on the web.

Good luck with that. I had to change my email addresses because of their new filters, the same ones I've been using for EVE for years. |

well changing email address is certainly better than losing all access to your accounts, its quite common for characters like that to not be included in validation, simply change + to _ and it shouldnt have any issues.

My question is why on earth you would set up your accounts that way.

I kinda wondered this aswell, a simple _ or - would serve the same purpose

I was wondering more why he even used separate e-mail adresses to begin with.

Because they aren't separate accounts. It's one gmail account; [email protected]. Gmail lets you add + to your base email that will still be delivered to the same account but allows you to setup filters on incoming mail (or figure out who is selling your email to spammers).
