Im sure so many would find this suggestion ridiculous and insane ... but I have to say it ... and if its been said before, my bad - cant find references to it so here we go ...
evewho.com .... horrible ... just horrible ...
i look at things in eve as if they were true and real ... would it be easy to find out who has been in a corp, left, or joined? no it would not. if this is going to be something available like this, then it should be something available via purchase ingame like a locator agent ... its like the employment history pane of the profile window - really? REALLY? how would anyone know this thing about a pilot? employment history should only be available via full api key - sh*t why not provide links to a pilots evemail? API ONLY! COME ON NOW!
imho, and im sure to get slammed for my opinion, certain things should just not be public.
... come on now |

Okay first LMFAO
Secondly there is no way you can control this as someone will rehost the old site and just start scrapping APIs which is where it all comes from anyway.
Thirdly I do hear the too much info is to readily available schtick. I too mourn this. Eve was much more fun with less info yet this is like the digital world, once plugged in you will never be unplugged and is a facet of modern life. Learn to deal with it or handicap yourself if you so wish to make Eve "hardmode on/", but in the end the choice is yours.
Have you heard anything I've said?
You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?
That's right.
Had to end sometime.

... come on now Nothing to do really with evewho.
That information is public from CCP.
Here is my public information:
https://api.eveonline.com/eve/CharacterInfo.xml.aspx?characterID=93663512
Here's yours OP:
https://api.eveonline.com/eve/CharacterInfo.xml.aspx?characterID=90023025
and your characterID is public, just by querying your name:
https://api.eveonline.com/eve/CharacterID.xml.aspx?names=Lahnius
That's just information that is openly available about any character, directly from CCP.
evewho just makes use of that information. It isn't gaining access to anything you can't already access. |

Evewho is a phenomenal, PHENOMENAL resource for corporations operating with rules of engagement. Firmly against shutting it down |

This is an interesting topic. I would accept employment histories as a sort of team affiliation in a video game. If it was simpler we would be Terrorist or Counter-Terrorist, but we get to create new teams with corporations and alliances.
Removing employment history info for the sake of immersion is also surprisingly compelling. It seems to function like an all-knowing database, doesn't it.
It's not an unusual expectation. Ship kills and losses aren't listed in the client, despite this being a video game and kills being a type of point score.
Help, I can't download EVE

Years ago when Eve was new Character standings were in the character show info bio section. So standings with NPC agents and corporations were public info and could be used to find out what a character did. This was eventually removed so I can imagine that CCP could remove some information that could be used to attack or find people again if they so chose.
So the precedent is there really for continuation or removal.

So the precedent is there really for continuation or removal. Except the genie is out of the bottle. As you said, the info is out there, it's not going to magically disappear. Not that that's a good argument for leaving it as is. But that is a good question, how much intel is too much? How much should be available, how much is not enough?
Wolfgang - How is it a tool for ROE? That's never come up for me before.
