In light of the NY times article I got to thinking, what kind of setup would the prefered 9 person oversight body be.
1) A well know and trusted member of the 0.0 community (DS).
2) A well know and trusted member of the Empire Community (Chribba).
3) A forensic accountant.
4) An experienced Database administrator
5) A second experienced database administrator (because most complaints tend to focus on lag issues).
6) A member of law enforcement with experience in investigations.
7) A lawyer, if your board dosn't have one you'll wish you did (from personal experience with non-profits).
8) A member of the RP community (who would know about event rigging).
9) A statistician.
Feedback?

This works for me. Nice breakdown. The elections should have some good structure like this. it would help balance them and also encourage trust from everyone in these 9 people who could all potentially be the alts of 1 Guy in some alliance that makes Buzzing noises when it flys in t1 frigates with cloaks.
Please Help me, YOU could be next!

I like the OP's idea - that breakdown seems pretty appropriate for what they'll be there for. Next question - can we fill those positions without any of them being BoB/Goonswarm?
erm...GOONSWARM IS EBIL. |

I agree, thats the sort of real world skillsets I want people having if they are doing auditing.
I disagree with all the people saying "no bobs or goons" though. In fact, I think we should have A bob and a goon there. Along with some other alliance members, and members of the high sec carebears.
Of course we cannot trust goons, bob, ccp, the carebears, and whoever else individually. But if we put them all together in a room, they will make damn sure that nobody else gets away with anything, which is really the situation we want. We need to leverage the whinyness of players to our own advantage.

You guys actually think the 9 guys are going to be believed by the community? The conspiracy theories will never die. They are part of the game now, like it or not.

Obviously--conspiracy theories, by definition, cannot be disproven.
But what can be done is include someone who is an enemy of BoB in the mix--someone who could not be seen as biased in favor of them.
The group doesn't necessarily have to be nonpartisan, but it certainly should be bipartisan.

Hire a thief to catch a thief I like it. We definitely need a thief for at least one slot.
