Edited by: Soulbound Bob on 10/07/2007 22:57:09 There have been many scammers throughout EVE. Many people hear of EVE through stories of such scams and other ruthless tactics used in EVE. Everyone says that old scams never work, but is that true?
Today I made a demonstration. It was quite easy all i had to do was remember the scam I have seen done many times before, I went up to round 6 and because people are so naive and if 1 person does it everyone else wants to I could have kept going If I had the isk to pay back double at that point but I did not. I wasn't even in a caldari corp.
So I started at round 1 with 100 million at my disposal. What if I backed out at the end of the round would I lose isk? here are the official results
Round 1 103 million
Round 2 102 million
Round 3 100.6 million
Round 4 117 million
Round 5 98 million
Round 6 272 million (yes you are reading this correctly)
There have been numerous High yield investment scams that take a bit longer than an hour and sometimes months, they will net you hundreds of billions accordingly.
Please do not fall for scams and help any newbs asap. I hope CCP puts a rigid enforcement against this type of thing or some sort of GUIDE somewhere in the beginner tutorial.
I will shortly return the isk to those who sent it in for round 6. I can only hope they learn the lesson.
And yes there is a carbon copy of this thread in all the forum sections.
You must understand that anyone asking you to give money to get money is scamming you one way or another. |

Somewhere in between there, you left out all the details on what you did, what these "rounds" are and pretty much everything related to what you're talking about. What exactly did you do?

Your post lacks structure and more importantly, a point. It appears that you have posted this on the assumption that we somehow know what you are thinking in your own mind - sort of like expecting someone to know all the details of a conversation that has lasted 2 hours, but joined it 2 minutes ago.
I have 2 questions for you;
What are you talking about? and Were you under the influence of drugs when posting this topic?

This is not to detail how to scam but to avoid scams that ask you to give something to get a unreal and much larger return.

Nonono, I think you miss the point. We have no idea what you're talking about or what you did. How is your message a useful heads up on a scam if you don't even give the vaguest details?

It goes "Send me any amount of isk and I will pay back double".

Ahh, yes, that is a pretty old scam. I'm surprised it works at all.

Rubbish. In your case, passing over money was stupid. But for some people, they do offer these kinds of things, most commonly through IPO's and Bonds. I have also been known to ask in our market channel for amounts of isk and usually had the request accomodated.
It's all about common sense. Don't just send the money. Find out what it's for, background check the person, decide whether you think the person is worth that amount, decide whether you trust the person enough to send the funds, weigh up the chances of having that isk returned, etc etc.
Every case is separate. Either way, I think anyone who sends you isk with a get back double pyramid scheme deserves to be scammed.
