Edited by: Axiom Exige on 20/07/2007 16:08:36 I just started with Eve and so far I'm impressed. I've been thinking the last few days about which profession I'd like to try. Mining and trading just seem to boring for me. I don't really look at myself as to much of a pirate. I want something with a bit of combat but not to much. I feel that bounty hunting would fit me perfectly.
I'm unsure as to what are the 'must have' skills and tactics to be a successful bounty hunter. I've tried searching for bounty hunter guides and have come up empty. Any advice anyone could give me would be appreciated.

Put simply, the 'bounty hunter' 'mini-profession' is flawed right now.
CCP assure us that they will make progress towards this line of work, but there are several reasons why this is difficult.
I've failed to find an article out-lining this, but I did read it in one of the EON Mags.
Basically, there is no real system in place to go out and get Pirates, so becoming a bounty-hunter is out of the question I'm afraid.
What might be of interest to you is a Mercenary Corp? They sell their services to the highest bidder, and consist of mainly PvP work.
If that's of interest to you I recommend the recruitment channel in-game, or the recruitment forum on here?
Sorry thats not much help.

I don't know about guides, but Agony Unleashed does an "Intro to PvP"-type class that should get you started.

Please click on the link that is my banner for a link to our PVP classes - but as others have said, it's practically impossible to make a career of bounty hunting. We do occasionally kill people with bounties on them, and it's a nice bonus, but hunting down individuals with the intent to do that is really really tough. There have been some good proposals by players for ways of fixing the bounty hunting profession, hopefully CCP is considering them.

Edited by: Panch0Villa on 20/07/2007 21:20:43 Apart from the PVP aspect, prolly the only real tool a bounty hunter has to be successful is a surveillance contact. Even then, it's iffy, a bit of waiting and lurking is involved.
If you run missions, you will notice that some of the Surveillance agents conversations will have a prompt asking about "trying to find someone." If you have good standing with the agent, you can ask about locations of various players. I tried it out of curiousity, and after paying a small fee, my agent sent me an evemail with the system name the player in question was in. This was with someone I knew was online, a buddy of mine, but idk if it would work for people who are offline or whether or not there is a limit to how far each agent can "see." I somehow doubt a Caldari agent could track down someone in Gallente or 0.0 space.
EDIT: Note that you will have to loiter in the system to find this person, using scanners, local contacts, or other tracking methods. As far as this is concerned, you'd be on your own. "Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes" |

Thats the same thought i had when i had not been long started in the game........
Problem is with being a merc is basially its sort of like being a pirate for hire, remember not all people with bountys are pirates, and big bounty pirates are normally hard to catch
So i went in to pirate hunting, which if your lucky and they dont run away you get the odd bounty
