I think there should be risks attached to low-sec space, but the problem for me is that every time I try to enter low-sec space I never get further than the gate So whats the point of going there? You should atleast be able to enter low-sec space and then take your chances. The solution seems to be based around security at the gates themselves, but being a newish player I don't know what it is. I want to travel to low-sec space and take my chances, but please allow me to get there first because it's no fun getting killed as soon as you jump into one. 0.0 should be the preserve of the gatecampers?

The discussion about low security systems are pretty simple.
Empire space serve a purpose, it protect the ones that don't want to pvp or want to keep their game to a recreation level without stress at the end of the day.
0.0 Serve a purpose, it create a challenge and pvp for the people that wants it and enjoy that kind of gameplay over the empire Space game.
Low security systems, serve no purpose at all, its half by half and create more exploitable loopholes to eve then the game need.
Low security systems should be 0.0 systems in principle with heavy concord protection around gates and stations, outside their range concord should no bother what goes on. Concord should be interested in protecting the transition lanes comming from 0.0 as they provide valuable minerals and equipment needed by the empire factions.
In this no security hits should be put on any characters for actions in low security and the concord protection around gates and stations should be strong enough to make sure any threat is dealt with swiftly and without mercy. But even if conord kill troublemakers or the troublemakers escape them , they should give rats ass what they do as long they do it away from their protected lanes.
this would open up for corporations and pirates to activly defend their own pockets in low security space, if thats a ore belt or a pos moon, thats their choice. But they would know from the beginning that protection and defence is entirely up to them, and can't expect concord to jump in any any time for help.

I think that Gate security should be higher for Lowsec systems - if the guns fire (because of illegal aggression) then shortly afterwards a CONCORD fleet should arrive and disperse the aggressors... BUT that CONCORD wouldn't go anywhere but the gates, and after a period of time the CONCORD ships would leave.. so the campers could camp, but wouldn't have complete control of the gate.
This would get rid of the week long gatecamps.. and that would give better encouragement to mission runners and miners to run into Low-Sec....
But if CONCORD wasn't going to save your... butt... in the mission or at the belt, then that'll make it still dangerous.

Originally by: Eval B'Stard If the rewards were to justify the risk then more people would move there, but at the moment it's insane risk for little reward so why bother.
no matter what reward (unless you go totally insain) it would not make people life there, it is just too damn easy for pirates to gank up on industrial people and they have no chance in hell to defend themselves, for mission runners ... well why should they even go to low sec?! unless a bunch of now 30 Q+ agent popped up there, but even then the place would be flooded with pirates, so all it would do it increase the gain in low sec would be increasing the isk of the pirates, nothing more..
if you want people to populate low sec, let them rent concord for a specific amount of isk which means concord will come to their aid if they can just hold ground for a little time (or something like that, which would make it at least 80-90% save to be there)

Originally by: SoftRevolution What about the vast majority of gates that players from high sec are going to pass through on their way to low sec?
Are usually not camped. There are a few high trafic ones that tend to be camped. Mainly Rancer, and (lately) Aunenen. And of course nearly all 0.0 entry points are camped much of the time (but that's not low-sec). But even in some of the big well known pirate systems like Decon, Egghlende and Amamake I've traveled through many times without seeing any gate camps.
I've traveled through low-sec in just about every empire region there is. I've even done it in battlecruisers (fitted for combat, not travel). It really is not that dangerous in most places. Most of the time I can't find someone to try attack me when I'm in low-sec even when I want to fight, and targets more challenging than a 2 week old newbie in a Merlin ratting in the belts are not that common. Go to Carrou and Ignoitton, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

0.0 is not low-sec. 0.0 is 0.0. The gates into 0.0 tend to be camped most of the time. They are still usually very easy to run through in an interceptor or a cloaking ship, but nonetheless, they are camped.
Low-sec is another issue though. If you are getting killed every time you try to enter low-sec (not 0.0) then I'd like to know what system you are trying to enter.

Yes I know low-sec space is not 0.0 space. I've tried to run some minerals to a 0.3 and a 0.4 system and got blown away as soon as I entered the systems on both occasions. Hence, I no longer travel to low-sec space, which means Empire space will have a lot more players and the problems that come with it. And Low-sec space means low security- not NO security. If the gates are protected then it's up to me if I want to take my chances away from the gate. Anyway, just my opinion.

What systems did you try to enter?

Really, low sec is not that hard to move in and out off, There is a ye olde pirate cheat you can use to get stuff in and out of low sec.
Its called..........A scout
i live in low sec, and all the idea about concord coming to the gates suck, not all pirates gate camp 24/7, some of us go around in small groups/solo. When you are in a small gang of cruiser/battlescruiser sized ships them gate guns hurt!
and with most places, if you do camp for hours on end, chances are someone else is going to make a blob to come get your gang. What low sec needs to is something to get people back into the belts Better ore and a bit better rats would really help!

Not familiar with it.
Next time though, I recommend filling the lows with warp core stabilizers and putting a small shield tank in the mids if you are going to take an industrial into low-sec. Makes it very difficult to kill you.
What should do first though, is take out something like a Condor with cheap tech 1 fittings. Put a 1 mn mwd on it and an inertial stabilizer in the lows. Then go roaming through several low-sec systems to see what low sec in general is like. It will be nearly impossible to catch you in low-sec (you get into warp faster than any pirate in low-sec can lock you) unless they are using smart bombs, and even if they do kill you it's barely any kind of loss anyway.

OK thanks for advice, I don't want to stay in Empire space forever so maybe I will do what you suggest and check low-sec space out properly, It's just that getting blown away my only two times in low-sec has put me off a bit. Making enough money from my mining to fit out cheap ships so maybe I take the risk again.
