Hi,
There may be a thread for this already, but I just want to have a /cry about downtime being right in the middle of my prime time. I live in Australia, GMT+10, and server downtime happens from 2100 to 2200 (usually) every day. So I get home from work, have dinner and sit down to a night of EVE fun that lasts all of 1 hour. Then, if I'm lucky and there are no issues, I get another hour after DT before it's bedtime.
I don't know how I can say this other than 'please, for the love of [insert deity here], move DT!' It only has to be 1 hour later so I get get 2 hours EVE in a row. Seriously, I will pay double the current subscription on my 3 accounts if you can move DT by an hour. If you can move DT by 2 hours in either direction I will pay triple!!! Honestly, I will - this is a great game and I love it, I just wish it was online when I am...
Wow, I have wanted to get that off my chest for 3 and a half years and I feel better now.
Thanks for reading, kris

Been brought up a dozen times.
It's a simply a fact that DT is timed to suit the people working on the servers in the UK. Not to the players, so tough luck basically.

I agree with this and move that DT be moved to conincide with Choina's primetime. They get their own server , not much if they cant get to this one that would be consiered illegal in China now would it?.....

This topic always appears every few weeks...
CCP have DT at this time as it is usually the low peak of players online.
Yes it sucks as its your prime time, if it was a few hours later or earlier distrupts more people. I really don't think CCP can have an alternative time.

Downtime will always suck for someone, sorry it has to be you. The reason it is in that timeframe has something to do with CCP people being at work and ready to do what is needed. Perhaps they could do a sight cycle of DT or improve the cleanup procedure, so its only 1 DT pr week? But that is wishful thinking really

if you have been waiting to get that off your chest for 3.5 years you will have read all the other threads saying the same as you about DT, and you will have seen all the answers from CCP saying it will never be moved.

Moving the downtime wont solve the problem, or well yes, it will solve it FOR YOU... but another will inherit of it The only solution would be to have a weekly maintenance of several hours instead of a daily maintenance of 1 hr. I really dont know if it is doable "technically" though, as EVE isnt WoW... *running to cover*

YEah it's mostly because CCP workers are ALL(prime time in game dev office) there.
So if something goes birds up, they got the necessary personnel on stand-by, or atleast at lunch in some moderately near location.
Now, a rolling DT, which would be based on main DT, which would upgrade automatically in a time when it's suitable for all, would be nice...BUT, the problem would then be, a rolling DT

Getting the whole of Australia to move to GMT would be a more elegant solution.

Edited by: Kristaki on 19/10/2007 12:40:17 Wild Rho: I don't read forums much, thanks for the info
Jaketh Ivanes: I agree - once a week, or even every 2nd day would be nice
chuck starlighter: I don't read forums much :)
Sheriff Jones: I understand that - but isn't it like 1100 or 1200 there, shouldn't they be thinking about lunch then? If it was an hour later, say 1200 or 1300 their time, then they could enjoy their lunch and still be present to deal with issues.
Sirex007: bing!
Saint Luka: indeed! I used to play on there a lot, and it's great. You can go out to o.0 and not be surrounded by jerks. I tried this the other day and it said something like no login due to player requesting deactivation or something - wtf?
Avon: rofl - I go and do that and CCP realise the error of their ways and move DT and it bites me on the arhse again, thanks but no thanks :) (Can I say arhse if I misspell it?)

I have an idea! It involves heavy drilling below down under, 100 afterburners from F-18 fighter planes and 2 thousand gallons of rocket fuel!

It might be, that it's actually a bit automated, with a skeleton crew, and the downtime is at lunch so they don't waste too much time on the DT daily(counts up to a LOT of man(ly) hours) and can concentrate on the 294856 other issues people complain about...constantly...all the time...ALWAYS!
I bet they would be open to suggestions, though as it's been such a long time, changing it might prove to be more hazzle then worth.

If you had DST over there in Australia then you'd at least have half of the year with a decently timed DT.

Wow, sarcasm (which is what you are using here) or not, if someone really did this, I'd expect to see them on the news under the title of "Have video games gone too far?" and a new scurring of reporters running around finding people to commit suicide because something bad happened to them in a virtual world.

I live in Queensland, we are 1 hour and 20 years behind the rest of the east coast of Australia - no DST. Don't get me started. I would move, but the weather here is to die for - literally... we have the highest incidence of sun related cancer per capita in the world.
kris p.s. argh, I am posting on forums... yes the servers are down again.

I really can't see how you can claim this is "a fact" since clearly they do change the times. When the UK changes to and from summer time, downtime stays at the same GMT. In other words they can and do change their work practices to move whatever they do to a different time of the day. Moving it forward or backwards by an hour or two every other week would at least give the aussies an uninterrupted evening of play now and again. Losing an hour every day (or more if you add all the extended DT that take place every other Tuesday, it seems) does make it frustrating.

I can claim it as a fact because a dev said it once when answering a post just like this - if I had the patience I'd try and dig it out. DT shifts by one hour back or forth once every 6 months. That one hour difference is insignificant enough to not be a problem for their scheduling as it still lies in the middle of the afternoon. You may also not realise that you're basically asking people to stay up to the early hours of the morning to do a DT where there will be minimal support if something does go wrong (what with practically everyone else being at home sleeping) just so you can play a computer game without an hours interruption.

Even if they did move DT, it would still be primetime somewhere.
