If CCP were to announce on the forum that they needed ú5,000,000 for a project that would either a) eliminate all lag from fleet battles (huge server upgrade for example), or b) provide planetary warfare (or something cool like that); would you be willing to pay ú25 as a one off charge for them to do so? I believe there are 200,000 active subscribers but that could be old info...and it might cost more than 5m for an upgrade like that.
Anyway, I would, just wanted to see what others thought.
On a sidenote, you could get chribba to set up a charity which sold ISK donated from honest players to ones who buy ISK anyway, and which in my eyes CCP cannot stop, thereby denying ISK sellers of their market, with all proceeds going to a CCP upgrade fund...

or ccp could raid their in-office beer and Ferrari cash box.
more to your question.. no. CCP is a company, not a non-profit internet spaceship aid group, not a humanitarian mission. (nearly, but not quite)

Waaaiiiit.... doesn't part of our 15 dollars a month go to hardware and software upgrades?
I don't know what CCP's costs are (could you imagine how much they pay for bandwidth?)... but with 200k subscribers, each paying 15USD a month, that comes out to 3,000,000 USD a month, or 36,000,000 USD a year, not including what they make from the EvE misc. goods store.
Of course, they do a lot to earn that every year, provide us with a lot of shiny updates, make sure that the server hampsters are well feed, ect.
Getting back to the point, maybe if it offered a LOT of new content I would, like 2 new races with corresponding regions (would love to see something with the Earth and the Orginal solar systems in it), or maybe a way for corps/alliances to develope their own faction items, but to pay them extra money to fix current problems, or to pay them extra money to create a graphics engine that will probably make my current graphics card cry? No.

No. I would not pay for "extra" content.
I don't even want most of the free content such as Eve Voice. Ambulation. POS warfare.
If I had my way Eve would be the same game from 2 years ago with better graphics, better performance, and a UI that doesn't look like it was designed by third graders.

Pay extra for extra content? Definitely no. I expect my normal monthly payment to pay for all Eve-related services. including bug fixes and solutions to problems regarding game mechanics. I won't pay extra for that stuff... or any stuff for that matter. I watch Eve-TV now, but the instant they try to go back to charging me for it, I'll simply stop watching it. ---

Edited by: J Valkor on 23/11/2007 08:44:38 I would quite EVE. CCP has, in my mind, a social contract with me. As an MMO, I pay a monthly fee for my content. If they charged for expansions or content, that would break the contract.
That is why I quit WOW upon learning of an expansion. Blizzard broke their contract with me, and that was that. Eve voice does not count as a break in that contract because it was hardly a neccessary thing to purchase to remain competitive.
Then there is Hellgate: London... I will see about that. 150 USD for a life time subcription seems a bit steep, but if they add content as they promise it might be worth it. I have no idea what discount rate they are using to make fifteen months worth a life time sub, but more power to them for it. Sounds like a terrible trap to me. Time value of money is an interesting concept, and one that I am not neccessarily sold, but much like a creationist studying geology, I bear with it. Sig removed, lacks Eve-related content. dont forget:
they need to pay theyr workers (alot of ppl = alot of money each month) they need to pay for electricity (loads of servers and office equipment = huge bill) they need to upgrade server hardware(they dont run some crap like pentium 4s there.. they run the best thats awailable what means its omg expencive)
thats allready huge part of that 3m usd gone. rest is saved for other projects or spent on Alcohol :D
