Just wondering what the timeframe is for the "premium client" to be available AND working using the official client? To my understanding Dec. 5 2007 will be the release date of the new content/engine and was wondering if Linux/Mac users will be able to enjoy the new graphics within some reasonable timeframe post release?

IIRC, I've read somewhere that Cedega doesn't support SM 3.0, so we won't be able to run premium client on Linux an unknown period of time.

Q. Will EVE: Trinity be supported on the Mac and Linux platforms?

From the FAQ
"TransGaming are already working on the new features needed in the underpinning technology"
Oh great! As a Cedega customer and knowing their ooh so fantastic track record we will see support for this when hell freezes over. Looks like Wine in making some serious progress and may actually be ready for trinity on release though. $10 on the Wine boys! Any takers?

I'd give Wine a six month window to come up trumps.

Wine is already running SiSi + Trinity content. Stable? No. It's kind of limping along with half the transmission hanging out, but I see a large number of people with spanners working on it.

Cool. My comment was not how long it'll take Wine to get a playable "Premium" Eve but how long I felt it'll take Cedega to also achieve it.

That said, Transgaming's new change of heart over sharing of code might mean they go hand-in-hand from now on. :)

Well it looks like the Wine boys nailed the I/O problem down. New version of Wine 0.9.50 nots I/O completion and particularly Asynchronus I/O as the repaired/solved issue. Now on to SM3... Whaddya all think? 3 - 4 weeks?

About that, my money is on 0.52 (maybe .53?) being a drop in install (i.e. Trinity gets Gold/Platinum on winedb).

Well like I said in another post as well as on the Cedega forums... Looks like Linux and Mac users are S.O.L. on this one. Trinity comes out in less than a day and there has been no news from either CCP or Transgaming on the state of the "Official Client". In its' current state it cannot run the on the test server and knowing this makes it broken when the client is released tomorrow. Can someone from the Dev team throw us a bone here? Christ communication is very important and other than "Check the FAQ" there has been no answer to this question. It seems that CCP chose the wrong partner in this endeavor and should have asked WineHQ for help with the wrapped client and made a donation to them instead of dealing with Transgaming. Hope you all have a long skill selected and see you in space... umm.. soon?

Well, the FAQ has updated to say the Cegeda client will do the IO stuff needed but not SM3.
So, my money is on TG doing the same bitflip that we're doing in the wine sources.
Either way it's a race to get the needed SM3 features in and working. i suspect if you go full bore Trinity in Wine you'll see an impressive number of FIXME & STUB's appearing in the console...

Dunno if you have seen the latest on testing with Wine. BUT with the "classic" client the bit flip no longer works. The premium client the bit flip works but you can't undock or it crashes. Asynchronous I/O is the least of the problems now. My suggestion is train a LONG skill.

I believe the crashing is random, so you can undock and get away with it sometimes. Either way, I'll be giving Premium a test drive and if worst comes to worst, lets see if Cegeda can make Basic work until 0.52/53 appears ;)

To be quite honest I could give a damned less right now about eye candy. I just want a working freakin client come Trinity when it goes live. If it lacks the ooohs and aaaahs for a few weeks so be it. Random crashing is not acceptable either, not that I blame Wine in any way but Transgaming/CCP for this nonsense. It's not like this has been a secret nor has Transgaming been kept in the dark about it either seeing as they are a partner and all...

And thus the official client supports EVE:Basic. I suspect it will require a patch to make work which will probably appear sometime after 0200 6/12/07.... basically when TQ comes back from it's little holiday.
I'm the first to get the pitch forks and hunt down Transgaming, but in this case it works or rather WILL work on TQ after the upgrade. Connecting to the test server is neither here nor there and if it's that important follow the various posts on getting Wine to work (bitflip & Premium with the content disabled seems to work).

You are WAY more optimistic about Transgaming than I ever was or will be. Let's hope you are correct.

Money's still on wine or a wine fix if I'm honest... I'd prefer that anyway 'cos Eve is waaay better on wine than cedega.

Official (Cedega) Linux works out of the box with classic. Did not bother to download premium content as FAQ says it's not ready. The patch says "Test" and that it won't work with TQ - but I guess they simply forgot to edit the patch info.
I also patched my wine installation (which I prefered as it doesn't have 3 bugs I found in the official client) - but that does not yet work for me out-of-the box with wine 0.9.50. And WineHQ says it's not ready yet for premium content.
Good news: Classic client works right away. Bad news: Have to wait for premium content - my money is on wine beating the cedega version . --- ISK BUYER = LOOSER EVE TV- Bring it back!
