Forgive me if I am reading too much into this but I wanted to bring it up here in case it was never discussed.
I was doing research on the Jin-Mei and discovered their homeworld of Lirsautton III is cold. Really cold. The planet is listed at 207 degrees K (which I assume means Kelvin)on the planet info page and when you translate that into degrees Celsius you get -66 degrees (-87 degrees F).
So the planet is completely frozen unless I'm off and K means something specific to the Eve universe. If it does that would be awesome... and I'd really like to know what it is
I'm dying for Jin-Mei info to roleplay them correctly and right now I figure they should be eskimos... unless there was a mistake somehow. Thanks!

Don't take my rantings personally. I may just be arguing the topic... unless you're saying something stupid, and then I mean every word. |

Thanks for the compliments.
I figure the game is supposed to be balanced so that it is realistic and fun at the same time. Changing the tempratures of the planets doesn't effect the fun factor of the game at all but it does effect the realism... which in turn makes it more fun for people to discover that CCP paid attention to the 'little things.'
For example, the Jin-Mei are located on the third planet from their star, much like Earth is. This means that the science should balance them out so that the planet is easily habitable.
The problem with that comes from the planet temprature. Luckily, the temprature of the Lirsautton (the star) is pretty accurate... I believe it is 4,500 K at the surface compaired to our Sun which is 5,778 K. It's a big drop off but we can assume Lirsautton is just a slightly older star or slightly smaller and the planets are closer together.
Anyway, I'm rambling now. Hope this is an easy thing and can be updated

Ye... i was afraid to say to make the game better is to focus on the small things in the game... like how the ships blow up and shield effects and small parts of armor taring off replaced my fire and smoke blowing out of the side...

hah. You haven't seen the worst of it.
Planet in villore, says the planet is ice. planet is 1128 degrees Kelvin.
Is there something wrong here?

Just because their the third planet doesn't mean they get the same heat. Earth gets our amount of heat because we are 1 AU away from a medium sized yellow star. It that planet is 1AU, or slightly more, or slightly less, the temperature would be massivly colder since the suns temp is colder. This is a signature, not some random addition to my reply. |

I noticed a few other planets with really off tempratures as well. Um... maybe they were one type of planet but are undergoing a polar shift causing their tempratures to drop or rise drastically? That's about the best I've got...
The star is classified as a 'Medium sized yellow star' in the information section of the game and because the Jin-Mei homeworld is three planets away (like another blue marble in the sky we call home) I figured it was a nice move by the Devs to try and make that a suitable homeworld. Just needs a little tweaking and we can build ourselves some nice role play angles!

I have seen some planets with lights all over them measure in at 5 K. 5 degrees above absolute 0. Huh.

Edited by: Mithfindel on 09/07/2008 06:27:38 Yes. Apparently the pseudorandom algorithm forming the universe doesn't have rules checking internal consistency etc., but just assigns planet type and stats in a rather random manner.
I wonder how much it would cost to buy the Frontier: Elite II algorithms from Frontier Developments? Realistic solar systems, though their physics had a few holes. (Due to the way how "nearest object" was calculated and used for collision detection, there were a few fly-thru moons/asteroids.) Or failing that, run an algorithm that does a consistency check between planet type, temperature, and distance from the star. (Edit: And yeah, I really don't want to mess everyone's bookmarks, it would just be nice to have the real solar systems.)
