Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - Would highly recommend this
I have never enjoyed an anime like I did this one, the last act with the Tengen Toppa itself - I had to perform the Heinrich maneuver on someone chocking due to laughter on their own saliva when this happened.
Last Exile - you must.
Code Geass - real robot mecha, drama and thriller series that is likely going to be the successor to the Gundam franchise, definitely post 9/11. Also has the British Empire as the hegemony of the world and is the rebellion in Area 11 (formerly Japan) against its conquerer. Occasionally called the bastard child of Death Note and Gundam SEED
Melancholy of Suzimiya Haruhi - Eccentric genius with ADHD with an obsession with Aliens, Time travelers and ESPers is god, created the universe and no ones told her yet. Series is brilliant and o beautiful artwork.
Full Metal Panic - Mecha show, action comedy. Not much to add but its done by Kyoto and a good laugh, especially Fuffumo.
Neon Genesis Evangellion - You just have to watch this, people still talk about it 15 years on for a reason, it is yet to be surpassed as the epitome of its Genre.... Mind**** God Mecha in a war of survival.
RahXephon - Just a hairs breadth behind Neon Genesis, truth be told if this came out first this is what would have been talked about not Eva.
Black Lagoon - Mafia devil may care shoot everything with a dark plot, similar to GitS on quite a few levels.
Higurashi - I cannot describe this well. Psycotic, hardcore thriller with lots and lots of blood. Just watch the first few eps on Youtube to see if its your thing, I found it draws you in well, if you like Elfen Lied this is your kind of thing. .hack/Sighn - A broken individual with no real memories trapped inside an MMORPG, unique and a beautifully well done series.
Others are; Cowboy Bebop Gundam SEED Full Metal Alchemist Trigun Elfen Lied Trigun Crest of the Stars.
That should keep you entertained for a while
Is it bad that I've seen almost all of those? This time last year, I had never watched animT in my life other than GITS. __________________________

Well, if you want torrents, a certain swedish site is the first call of port. Otherwise veoh or youtube for testing them out.
I just use Veoh, i cba to download them.
It's much better quality if you torrent them though. __________________________

I just finished watching Death Note. Wow. Bleeding fantastic.
I don't understand why everyone compares it to Code Geass though. There's a vague resemblance between Lelouche's and Light's personalities, and the protagonists' companions are both addicted to some form of food. That's about it as far as I can tell. __________________________

At the moment, downloading last exile and samurai champloo per your recomendations, DON'T FAIL ME NOW!
seeing champloos and exile one after the other might give a bit of a headache.
also, champloos' ending is a bit melancholic and meh tbh.
I haven't seen champloo, so can't really comment about that. But if anyone here understands wtf was happening at the end of Last Exile, let me know. __________________________

You must have not watched one or the other. Code Geass is Death Note, just with more mecha and less well thought out Keikaku.
I've watched both. There are passing similarities in the demeanour of the protagonists (although Lelouche doesn't seem to be going as bat-shit-crazy as Light did). The impression I got from Death Note was that of a game. He was playing a game, first against L, then against Near. Code Geass is about war and world domination, and Lelouche is not treating it like a game.
On another note (see what I did there?): has anyone seen Noein? I've just started it, and so far it seems fairly intriguing. People teleporting in from parallel worlds, losing limbs if they materialise inside a solid object - quite amusing . Also, a big glowing ring appears in the sky from time to time and nobody seems to notice except the protagonists. __________________________

High school anime! OMG!
Okay, those who are still reading this (anyone? ), lemme tell you, its not what you think. It has no plot, nor character developement. Its not about stupid teenage romances, altough its partially about stupid teenage romances. That didn't make any sense, I know. The series doesn't generally make sense either, first seasons is about introducing the characters, on the second season they start despairing more about things that happen around them, eventually questioning the point of the whole show. At which part, even though I am ashamed to admit it; I lol'd irl.
IMO; its brilliant. I can't recommend it to anyone with straight face, but if you decide to watch; DOWNLOAD GOOD QUALITY VERSION. It is truely a visually pleasing show, especially the first episode.
Hey I LOVE that one.
But I thought it was so obscure that nobody else had ever heard of it. __________________________

Originally by: Great Artista Watching black lagoon atm. Only gotten through few eps, but so far its been semi-entertaining. Not expecting much from the series anyway.
Tried to watch Code Geass again; I couldn't, nor could I handle full metal alchemist. Both series totally lose their perspective; CG has forced plot twists in every episode and RIDICULOUS sex-overload on every female character. FMA's alchemy lost all its meaning when they made a 20m wall around a frigging mountain, yet struggle to defeat some other alchemists. MEH.
Avoid these if you wan't to stay within the limits of logic. (Perhaps I'm just too picky for anime.)
Logic rarely comes into it. In the words of one Mr. Strongbad: Japanese cartoons are weird.
Has anyone watched the first episode of Michiko To Hatchin? Looks like it could turn out to be pretty interesting.

Edited by: ReaperOfSly on 29/10/2008 09:59:48 I'm rewatching Ghost in the Shell SAC. It's one of the very few animT series I actually own on DVD (which is probably why I don't watch it much - disks are awkward). Now I remember why I loved this series. Yay Laughing Man!
Has anyone been watching Tytania? Only 2 episodes out so far, but it looks like it could turn out to be interesting. The characters actually seem to be intelligent (rare in animT), and have never made me go "well why didn't he just...". First episode was a roughly even split between spaceship battling and tea sipping, second was a bit more talky talky. Could be setting up for something grand.

Anyway, it's not my fault. Firefox thinks "anime" is a made up word. Interestingly, it also thinks "Firefox" is a made up word too.

Blade Runner in anime form? I must check this out.
I've been watching "Darker Than Black" lately. It's pretty nice, but so far I haven't detected any trace of a main story arc - most plots are over and done with in one or two episodes. It's a sort of near-future setting with people called contractors who have various superpowers. ____________________

Don't worry. Akiyuki spends very little time in future episodes as the Xam'd. He's in alien mode through the second episode, but for the rest, he's human.
As for Kuro ****suji, I can't make up my mind whether I like it or not. There seems to be an even split between awesome occult Sherlock Holmes style stuff, and slightly homo-erotic episodes where Ciel has to dress up as a girl and dance with Sebastian. I've watched as far as the Hound of the Baskervilles one. ____________________

Okay I've started watching Toradora. This series gets a resounding "meh" from me. I'll keep watching it because I don't have anything better to do until the new year.
And if you think it's insanity, you must be very sheltered. Try watching Kemeko DX and tell me Toradora is insane. ____________________

Originally by: Sunabi I caught up on Toradora yesterday. It was fun to watch, nothing really special, but the animation was better than I expected. The characters seemed to move a lot more realistically than they do in other anime I've seen. The relationships are interesting, and that brain-damaged parrot is hilarious in a disturbing kind of way.
Is it just me or is Aisaka just a copy-paste of Zero Louise from Zero No Tsukaima? Even down to calling her male companion a "baka innu". I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same voice actress too. ____________________

Gosh. That was quick. Were you hiding under the bridge waiting for a response? Incidentally, I think I saw some goats on the way here and they're much fatter than me.
In answer to your not entirely unreasonable question, I've seen a fair few anime films over the years. My eldest nephew is a bit of a fan-boi and regular tries to convert me to the cause. Every time it's the same; "oh you'll like this one, it's not like the last one I showed you" and he's never right... at least not from my perspective.
I stand by what I've said. It's an opinion, but then so is everything else posted in this (regularly necroed) thread.
Not everyone likes what you like, which is probabaly just as well, and I reserve the right to dissent.
Rather than just looking for an argument that you might not lose, but certainly cannot win, why not make your next post a constructive one regarding your reccommendations for anime?
Here's mine; watch something more entertaining... I hear there's some paint drying in Birmingham somewhere; if we hurry we can beat the crowds.
Get well soon.
So you insult anyone who likes anime, and then go on to justify your position with "not everyone likes what you like"? Either you're trolling, or are genuinely ******ed enough to not notice the contradiction.
Luckily, the two are not mutually exclusive, so I can quite happily speculate that both cases are true. ____________________
