I have a fact for you: There is *no* debate in the science community whether evolution happened or not, only as to how it happened exactly. We'll get to the bottom of it eventually, i'll pass the memo when we get it solved. --------------------------- sok alt - main got banzored |

There's no other option at this point really. I wasn't for going in, but leaving them to it at this juncture would be a pretty shitty trick.

Here's a very nice, simple argument: McCain and his VP are both creationists and favor teaching creationism in science class, a staggering level of delusion and detachment from reality. Someone who has such a clear disregard for facts and evidence is utterly unqualified for the job of deciding policy for one of the (arguably THE) most powerful and influential nations on earth. If he's willing to pick ideology over reality on this issue, why should we trust him to on any other issue?
That is your opinion. Please keep it that way. Were you there for the creation OR the moment when life evolved out of nothing?

My opinion is backed by overwhelming evidence, from fossils to micro-organism evolution, from carbon-14 tests to DNA discovery, by obervation on countless species, and pure, simple logic.
If you choose you'd rather believe words written two thousands years ago by guys who were convinced the planet was flat, you have the right to do it, but don't complain about what others think of you. ------------------------------------------

5 words for voters this years to help you decide who should be president:
9 TRILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT
And guess what? We didn't have 9 TRILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT 8 years ago.......and guess who's gonna pay for Bush's "Don't tax but spend like we are anyways" brand of conservatism?

To make hydrogen (H2), water needs to be split, 2H2O --> 2H2 + O2. This costs alot of electricity, which in turn needs to be provided by either burning fossil fuels or other means (wind, water, nuclear or fusion energy).
I think the world needs to realise that without either huge investments in wind and water energy or either nuclear (not so clean) or fusion (cleaner, not completely clean) energy, we are screwed, royally. I'd put my money on fusion, because it will be by far the cheapest option. Too bad research on it is hampered by the oil lobby who sees a threat to their monopoly on evergy ><
Fossil fuels come out of the ground on their own, go to refineries on their own, get refined automatically, then flow to pumps and power stations. Then they combust on their own and voila, magically we have your non-power requiring source solution.
Whatever you make you need power to start it off. Nuclear fuel? Where does the fuel come from? Did it drop out of the sky? Wind power? Did those towers create themselves and erect themselves? Fusion? The enormous magnetic field needed to keep the 15m degrees celcius of the reaction under control was created by... eh... aliens! And then it will have required energy and power to create.
So our best bet is not fusion, it's hydrogen and fuel cells unless you can come up with a power source that is 100% clean (wind, solar, hydrogen) and doesn't require any energy to start the reaction. Thus by your logic fossil fuels, hydrogen (fusion), the sun aren't sources but mediums. While that's right you only went around the solution and ended up where you started off, which is nowhere. Every Country gets the President it deserves.
But I'm positivly surprised that Obama is still alive. Maybe there is hope for the USA.

He has to stay alive AND they have to vote for him. I'll wait until after the polls before I have any hope.

I dont think you understand me.
Hydrogen is NOT a power source.
The gargantuous amounts of power needed to split enough water into H2 and O2 for cars to run on all day long will have to come from somewhere, one way is burning fossil fuels, one way is nuclear (fusion).
H2 and O2 are only present on earth in very tiny quantities, because well, H2 has the bad habit of burning up rally fast when it gets hot. It's impossible to 'harvest' H2 from any natural source like the way you can drill for oil or dig for coal, so the hydrogen for the fuel cells to run on needs to be *made*, using *energy* that came from a 'real' energy source like reactors.
Nuclear reactors run on uranium which can be dug out of mountains.
Nuclear Fusion reactors run on deuterium which can be filtered from plain sea water
The latter can sustain itself forever once it's been started up to the proper temperature and is supplied with deuterium. I believe there is enough deuterium in our oceans to fuel us for a few million years, so before that runs out we'll have found a new energy source. --------------------------- sok alt - main got banzored |
