Jowen Datloran wrote:The effort thing... sort of a core issue. The number of potential willing participants to a live event is always great, except when effort from their behalf enters the picture. Most have, after all, enough work to be done in real life already Headfirst's Sansha events before Incursion were brilliant as they easily included people due to, frankly said, the simple minded goal they laid out; here are the Sansha, destroy them. Some people added spice to the mix by trying to side with the Sansha and the event(s) went pretty well Arek'Jaalan on the other hand has difficulties explaining the people that want to participate what they should really do. There is nothing to shoot and no immediate rewards to be had. As one who has left real life academia behind I found it as a great opportunity to practice "fictional science", but for somebody with no such experience it seems getting into the topic is hard Site One was a great event though, again because of the simple and straight forward goal and accessibility. The two w-space incidents were pretty bad as they ended up being effort made for a single person/group only and highly exclusive. To make matters worse, not much was really gained from the project point of view, as in the first instance the involved player was more concerned about killboard whoring and did not find it weird at all to find multiple completely stationary cov-ops frigates. In the second case the player was a w-space alt intended to scan out wormholes in case of access being lost and therefore incapable of engaging a single Sleeper drone and explore a rather tempting spatial rift The danger CCP Goliath is taking on here, is that of effort; if not careful he might end up having to do a lot of effort to make events with simple goals to draw in a big crowd or he can continue to keep the project more mental demanding with less effort on his behalf, which on one hand encourages a few players to be very productive but has difficulties appealing to the masses I wonder if doing Live Events count as company work.
Indeed having an actual storyline around which to base live events, as the incident with the abandoned bombers is concerned, is a perfect example of why this is such a tricky endeavor.
If an abandoned Jovian ship full of storyline popped up, someone would destroy it "just to see something go boom" without any connection to the game beyond that, or thinking, etc. It's rather painful. Imagine civilization collapsing and a scientist managing to invent a warp drive before dying, and then someone digs up the journal 100 years later and uses it for toilet paper - that's (potentially) EvE with the mix of the kind of people we have around here.
So next time they deliver some content, they have to be really careful about it. They probably just stuck those bombers in the wormhole system and that's that. Then look what happened. To do stuff like that, they need to have people actually watching who is doing what in the game in real time and then strategically place the content.
That may require way more work and time then they are ready to invest.

A RL example of this is the Archimedes Palimpsest, however as that example show, it shouldn't always lead to their permanent loss. |

No? Because this is a general-broad topic on live event hosted initially by CCP? |

At this point, I would be happy with ANY replacements as long as they are sponsored by CCP. |

Amen to that, it's been far too long since the last events. It's a real shame how it all suddenly died out.

That potential is still there, I get the feeling a lot of people are just waiting eagerly for something new to happen. Most just seem a little lost as to what they can do right now.

Why? I am advertising a Live Event sponsored by CCP Developers. Why is it that this thread gets tossed to this channel that no one sees while The Mittani's thread shines prominently in the General Chat, which is more fitting to be posted on this In-Game and Gatherings channel? |

I think he is pretty much saying that the constellation that Angel Cartel resides in, originally belonged to Joves who are the "titans" equivalent of the Greek gods. |

New possible contents to be added on Arek'Jaalan Project's story arc, per CSM Meeting Notes!
Added the following notes to the thread:
Update August 3, 2012 Per CSM Meeting Notes, CCP has been very enthusiastic about expanding the storyline of the Arek'Jaalan Project.
"Talking about Arek'Jaalan, CCP Goliath discussed how he immersed himself into the lore surrounding Arek'Jaalan and wormholes after the Fanfest roundtable and his fascination with the story. CCP Goliath then shared with the CSM his perfect scenario for Live Events: HBO-style story arcs that take place over the course of a few months, with several events affecting the overall arc and leading up to the story. Players would be able to directly affect the story through their own actions. Elise agreed that player involvement would greatly enrich the depth of the lore to EVE players. CCP Goliath admitted that this would be the perfect solution but, unfortunately, the work involved may prove to be too daunting. However CCP Goliath recalled that several arc-type events had occurred previously, where players directly affected the outcome of the event by either killing a crucial player or neglecting to rescue another." |
