You do realize you just contradicted yourself. FIrst you wonder what the cronicles have to do with EVE the RP PVE portion of it.
THen you go back and say in your signiture PVP is hurting EVE.
Not much left after you throw both of those out the window

People say "every system is the same" because cosmetically and functionally, they are pretty much identical.
But for someone who follows the storyline (of which Chronicles are just one facet) the Caldari system of Malkalen is unique. That's where Ishukone CEO Otro Gariushi and countless other thousands perished when Federation Navy Admiral Alexander Noir crashed his Nyx into the station, an event that sparked a series of events leading to the current political climate - i.e. Factional Warfare, something that has a tangible, in-game representation.
This sort of thing is true for so many systems, and looking at just locations is only one of many ways to understand why the storyline can enhance gameplay.
To put it even more simply, the storyline is what separates Eve Online from just a space-based shoot'em'up. Sure, it's just that to a whole lot of people, but even the most storyline-averse players gets the basics (Down with Amarrian slavery! Minmatar Slaves smell! Gallentean men have man-gina! Caldari are soulless money-grabbing capitalists!)
There's a story explaining how you view your ship: that's camera drones; cheap to manufacture, fast and agile. No point in your enemy targetting them when you have a few thousand more in your drone bay to launch. Makes it more than just a 3D positional camera, it grounds it directly in the world of New Eden.
There's a story explaining Spider Drones, Quafe, why and how the EST time system in-game works, where that tutorial AI Aura came from and so much more. There's stories that add depth and substance to countless corporations and other entities like CONCORD, DED and even the ISD departments. Did you know there's a huge difference between the political philosophies of Ishukone and SukuuVestaa Corporation? They may seem functionally and cosmetically simliar in-game, but in storyline terms they couldn't be further apart.
There's insights into what Amarr society is like, both in its darkest moments and more benevolent and compassionate times. There's stories that delve into the history of landmarks and even the history of whole races.
The Prime Fiction (or canon) of Eve is vast, complex and sophisticated - just like the ingame reality it supports and represents. It's mere fluff to some, to others its another layer to a world already so easy to lose yourself in.
There's a reason the Caldari and Gallente are fighting. There's a reason for Malkalen - it didn't just happen for a plot device, it was an event grounded in an ongoing history that's been developed now for years. There's no simplistic good and evil, just a world filled with differing shades of grey and countless interpretations thereof.
In a nutshell, this shit is what makes Eve not just counter-strike in space.

i'll give someone 100 mil isk if they can find a chronicle that mentions a player corp directly. Hint, there's one ( tides of change ) that speaks of my corp.
So if u can find another, evemail me with the name/link of the chronicle.
It'd be worth it to find out that we're not the only one written into prime fiction.

It's kinda like asking what the intro has got to do with the game? Nothing really, except it is a part of the story of the game. I read alot, fantasy and real history, I also love Sci-Fi movies. But what do films have to do with the real life? Nothing. It's just entertainment, as is EVE, and since people like different kinds of entertainment, CCP provides within the EVE universe different kinds of entertainment. ---------

I'm not sure on the Gallentean statement, but as for Caldarians being soulless money-grabbing capitalists, it's a statement of fact, not a put down.
And for one, I'm glad of it. This Heth guy though really should be congratulated for improving the work safety across the Caldari-Nation. Improvements in the "free" movement and extra choice for ordinary citizens of the Caldari State will mean our mega-corporations get stronger and fitter for purpose. The obvious purpose is to make as much ISK as possible while supplying the known Universe with it's products, researching and developing new technologies and generally making other Nations depend on our policies and altruism for their economies. If the Caldari State called in all of our promisory notes most nations would be bankrupt over night, this includes the Gallente empire. This of course wouldn't happen as it would just make the debts unenforceable and not seeing anything at all back from our borrowers. Such is life I suppose.
Remember, standing still will lead to stagnation, which in turn leads to a wilting death. Keep moving forward, develop leads and products, price competitively with a good percentage of profit. Look after the employees, keep them healthy and happy and their quality of work will always be high. Caldari State Forever.
--------------
Now this is why the background is important. It adds depth to the universe we log in to. When you warp past a planet, imagine the billions living on it's surface. Imagine the crew of 1000's in your Cruiser sized hulls, the 10's of thousands serving their master on the Battle Ship class, and then every possible human story line is possible.
True - you don't need to read any headline or backstory to enjoy blowing things up or building items to sell, but I read the items for the extra dimension it brings to my enjoyment from the game.
If you can manage to read just the one story, read Jovian Wet Grave. It tells the story of the original developments of the Pod. Life is about memories the more the better.

Just a correction on ship crews. Cruisers have around 600-800 crew. Battleships have around 6000-8000 crew. For example: the Maller has a crew of 800, and the Raven has a crew of 7400.

they are so you know that your ships warp drive involves making space REALLY SLIPPERY. So low friction in fact that LIGHT MOVES FASTER THAN LIGHT, WITH OUT BREAKING LIGHT SPEEDS!!1
Also they are to illustrate amarrs cultural and military superiority.
And to remind you that the world is a horrible, horrible place and you are better off staying inside where nobody will try to explode your asteroid mining ship because your father was in the mafia or something i don't remember if that was even an eve chronicle or not.
Wait, i KNOW that was not having anything to do with eve. What is the game that starts out with your father getting killed in space because he cant payback the loan sharks, or something like that? You are a little kid in the start then you grow up to become awesome or something.
