No. They're ship parts.
You pick nose, tail, guts, top wingy bit from a set of different parts and stick them together, LEGO-wise, to create the final ship. Depending on what parts you pick, you get different stats, fittings, younameit.
They're talking about 5 different sections, 5 variations in each — 3125 combinations total… per race. It may be lowered later due to tech and balance constraints

Basically i think the idea is to have a base structure, say, hull, you then can choose the propulsion you want, and everything else, etc...

Fannnnnnnnnnnntastic.
The world, which used to be filled with ships that went through a coherent design process, beautiful ships like the thorax, megathron, raven, rokh, apocalypse, abaddon, incursus, so on, will now be replaced with this.
Randomized incoherent ship parts glued together lego-style, flying around pewpewing. I want to ragequit just because of that. But I'm not going to, because ambulation hits same time.

No. The old ships will still be the old ships, with all their little odds, sorts and foibles.
The new ships (or, rather, ship part combinations), however, can be rather unpredictable. You'll probably be able to infer the characteristics from the looks — different parts give different layouts, and these parts can be identified visually.

Why incoherent? They are designed to fit together according to a given theme. The caldari ship constellations they showed off all looked very caldari in their design; they all looked coherent in the different layouts.
And why replaced? There's no telling how common these ships will be. Also, given the level of customisation, chances are they'll be far more specialised for their task than the current ships — if you want a do-all kind of setup, there's nothing that says they'll be better (and certainly not cheaper) than what we have.

I have to imagine that each section of the ship would give a different bonus, and have a related PG/CPU and mass. That way you can pick the bonuses that you want and not fly ship where you are only using 2 of the 4 bonuses available.
Question is can you fit a module with frigate bonuses ona cruiser hull (like +5% small hybrid bonus), or can you fit bonus for other races on your hull (+5% to medium projectiles on a gallente hull)

Its only tec3 that can do that, the thorax and tec2 equivalents will remain the same. Honestly how can you be anoyed over this, it sounds like an awsome feature. some people are never happy.

Let's hope the rollout is better than this QR industrial expansion we are getting....
I like the idea of mix/matching components.
For those of us that can use more than one race effectively, is it possible to mix/match between races.

as awesome as it sounds I wonder... like if this is possible why can't my rifter have multiple skins?
everyone used to whine about lag being the reason we couldn't have 4-5 different ship skins.
but this is much more taxing, meaning CCP is happy with the servers :)
SO honestly that's all this makes me wonder about, because ship wise, there is no news yet. So far all I can honestly think is... won't this replace a lot of ships? depends how bonues work... will these ships have no bonuses maybe? that would be interesting. will they cost more than tech 2? will they give good insurance? will they take tech 2 trained to fly or have a new skill path? why not include all ships in this!
No really, honestly why can't I maybe put on some thukker wings on my rifter or such... I mean it looks but it would be cool if you could build up and upgrade current ships too...
this kinda feels like what they said rigs WOULD be, and thus I can't help but wonder what rigs are meant for in the game:P
hey do you think any of these ships might change the number of rigs they can hold or be riggless?
final question, so far it seems awesome... but... what about ship size? how big are these guys.

I love it! The only issue will be of balancing.
I know someone said he wanted fighters with his Ishkur, but I will assume that they will put limits like CPU/Power Grid to prevent large sized components (ie. carrier drone bays) to be plced on frigate hulls.
The good thing is that that they will only go on T3 ships so they can limit balance issues to those, and not all of Eve's T1/T2 ships.
I give CCP props for doing this. This will definitely get the more people to play Eve. And the current veteran population, who has done and seen it all will have something new to play with.
Good job CCP!

I am just happy that CCP realized that they needed to move in advance the next expansion to compensate for the complete lack of EXPANSION on quantum rise.. and the mediocre expansion that Empyrean age was.
If things work well with this t3 idea,t hen CCP will have completely redeemed this lack of content on the current expansion.
I just really hope the process of re-assembling the ship to be not instantaneus, needing industrial work. So you need to plan in advance how you want your ship ------------------------------------------------- If brute force doesn't solve your problem... you are not using enough

The important bits as declared by me (and that's all that matters):
- T3 ships sounds like an epic can of worms in the balance department - calling it now; the future whining about the ZeroSigSensorDampingLazo****age IWin button (or whatever it turns out to be) will put the nano whines of the past to shame.
- With all the different combinations of bits resulting in an ungodly number of variations, then throw on top of that the different load-outs possible with mods, how the hell are we going to name all these ships? -- The MissleSpammerCloakyGravcoreArmorChunkinator? -- So much for the simple Neutdomi scheme, eh?
- I imagine Gripen's "Oh, my EFT-backbone" reaction was probably a kodak moment
- It should be pretty damn cool regardless

- Overall balance, likely being even more nightmarish
- How this will affect performance, as far as lag (more infos to transmit between cliend and server), and graphical lag (more models to keep in memory, and custom color? alliance tag?...

they'll be easy to name as the eve-players, true to form, will in short order reduce the multitude of flavors down to a half dozen or less truly shiny combinations which will be promptly nerfed, thus keeping the training cycle fresh, as eve ever does, by then forcing people to train for ever-so-slightly-less-shiny combinations which will then enter the scene... wash rinse repeat... fortunes will be made and lost speculating as to which ones will catch on and which ones will not... I don't like the idea because it's a tease. I don't like getting used to something then having it taken away because it's not balanced. It's like having your favorite toy thrown in the trash. I wish they would not go further down the path of allowing things to self-correct, but such is the way of things for eve and ccp.

Well you have to admit that if they really do go down this path for an expansion, testing it will be a real nightmare.
Exponential logical paths.
Missing something overpowered is basically inevitable. Not nerfing it once it's found just because it's someones favorite toy would be wrong for the game as a whole.

I'm not that worried. Pen and Paper RPG's have been dealing with ship customization for literally decades. TBH Rigs always felt like something initially designed by White Wolf, this does also.

CCP generally plays it safe when assigning ship stats these days (BlackOps anyone? ) I'd be willing to bet these ships will be somewhat inferior to standard classes unless heavily specialized for a specific role.
But even if it does produce crap stats and sub-par craft... I like designing ships. Hell, it's more interesting than Ambulation.

This. And the fact that CCP has already gone through the painful process of losing control of DPS and ship speed and having to correct them.
Whatever rules they come up with, they could be applied "backwards" to the existing designs: it might actually become easier to balance a fixed-size set of ship construction rules, rather than try to keep an ever-expanding roster of ships and modules individually balanced.

After the complete FAILBOAT of the augmented and integrated drones deployment through an exploration mechanism, this is a *huge* worry.
Also, large alliances are going to be able to move into W-space and lock down the best bits (like the high end moons). I *really* hope they are looking at making the distribution of T3 high volume and hard to choke off, otherwise it will just become a private toy of the big alliance power blocks.

Maybe it'll actually make skirmish warfare a thing that can actually happen if true primaries cant be called other than looking at a characters name and his distance from the fleet.

I don't think it'll be quite that bad. What we've seen is a single model of ship capable of being moded to an extent. So people who are create/have the ISK will specialise their ships to do certain tasks, or be a jack of all trades-master of none. But the ships still seem like they're carry the same feel as any other ship. Caldari will be missles and shields primarily, Amarr will be lasers and tanks, etc.
I'm sure that once we're actually given information and stats on the pieces, and what sort of min-maxing can be done, how hard it'll be to do, how difficult/expensive it'll be to get, how common they'll be, etc.
So for now it's best to calm down, take a deep breath, and try not to speculate the downfall of EVE. ^_^; - - - Aloriana Jacques - Skill Sheet

They're talking about 5 different sections, 5 variations in each ù 3125 combinations totalà per race. It may be lowered later due to tech and balance constraints

I don't think it'd be the downfall. Personally I think it'd make FCing much more interesting.
The thing is, just knowning if Amarr uses lasers or Caldari missiles doesn't change much. A Raven and a Scorpion both use missiles, but which do you primary first? The Scorpion, of course.
I guess FCing will now mean you have to know what all those different sections do. --------- Your bad loan management perfectly strikes the stock market, wrecking for -777.68 points. Eve job list |

From what I can understand, you will buy a hull and then the diferent parts in order to build the final product. All of those can be built or bought in market.
what i gathered is you buy 5 different parts and make them your hull.(not all parts are gonna be compatible with others though i think. frig size, cruiser sice etc.)

So it's going to be an entirely new hull?
I'd be cool with more colors on the existing hulls and then slap your parts on it.
So my T3 Thorax (The hull name is Priapus, btw), could just have, say, two large spherical extensions on the back, both of which add on more highslots for more guns.
See, now *that* would be epic.

Hi Vagabond 2.0
AS long as you can fit dual shield expander on it and reach overly ridiculous speeds, I'd be mostly fine with it. ------------------------------------------

every module will actually be a sensor booster type module.
but they use scripts, so in my 12 high slots i put 12 neutron blaster cannon III scripts.

The idea of T3 ships sounds neat, as long as you can name them by yourself and promote them via your storefront(guess it's intented like that).
I really like the idea of wormholes though. From my understanding the sec status of the system where you found the wormhole doesn't matter at all, right? To use this system as a mechanic to lead more people into low sec, I guess 70-75% of the wormholes will connect into low sec/null sec systems, even if found in high sec.
One big question though. Can the site be found via scans or probes in its target system? And are these wormholes stable or can it happen for your gang to be stranded in the site's system, having to travel back manually. An expiry timer could be an idea, which is shown open after entering the site.
Any more infos on wormholes?

I really hope they make a set of a few tech 3 parts of different ships.
like the thukker tribe parts for the rifter.
or some new sails for the tempest and such.
that would be awesome.
