Perhaps, when a doomsday weapon is fired, it could push all non-titan, non-mothership ships into random places in adjacent grids and disable their movement for, say, 20-30 seconds. Yes, even carriers and dreads in seige/triage. They would be stuck in seige/triage for the duration of their cycle. This would then force people to engage in defensive measures to protect stranded dreads and carriers, keeping them out of the main battle to some extent.
Any big battle where a titan is present would then have the near certainty of splitting into many smaller battles in adjacent grids.
I am not certain how well the server infractructure would handle this, but I imagine it would probably handle it better than hugeblobness.
The first countertactic to this would be to keep a decent chunk of combatants in adjacent grids to start with, so they could move in immediately post-doomsday. This is also win-win for antiblob mechanics.

That would be nice, as it would eliminate the double DD threat. After you get hit by the first one, if you survive, you'd be off grid, and the second would miss everyone. Sounds good to me.. :/

More tactics - titans in adjacent grids!
Anyone for a game of doomsday ping pong?

Harder question to answer than I first thought, but imagine a subdivision on the real world. Every house is on it's own plot of land. Grids are like plots of land in a subdivision. They range from @250 to @750 km across if I am remembering right. Once you cross a gridline, you no longer see any of the ships or structures in that grid on your overview, so you cannot target them. I'm not sure how much overlap there might be at grid borders. if ships are 20 km apart, but in different grids, they might be able to see each other?
You would generally move a fleet or wing from grid to grid by either having preset bookmarks, or by having an extremely fast ship zip off and other gangmates warp to them a few seconds after they disappear from overview. |
