God damnit this is the third time ive gotten stuck and this time it cost me my rupture with expensive mods. I got stuck on a astroid while doing a corp op to kill some 100k rats. I was the last one left due to my other corp members being in frigates. I had this rat at almost death with armor repairs pushing and shields pushing. After a 30 min lasting battle my armor wasn't keeping up to the turrent/missile damage due to me runing out of defenders. So I hit my warp ss bm. "warp drive active" still sitting there on the astroid I managed to run into while orbiting the rat... "warp drive text still on screen for a min" oh **** what am I going to do? Log out? quit? maybe it's lag? waiting...... **** going 12 m/s and not warping out when it's trying to move in the direction at 12m/s.... laggg.. quick must log out... hit escape.... lagggg DEAD. WTF is going on here..
=( Dono if im going to continue to play this game.

Edited by: s4mp3r0r on 18/07/2004 23:15:46 roids have a weird gravity field, that might have caused you to be "stuck". Around them u can only move at certain speeds, sometimes even so much that you don't hit the "half of the max speed" required to initiate warp.
If it's very bad lag, try to petition it. I don't think its gonna help you tho... Bjorn Borg : Underwear is futile ! |

Yeah ok. You can't warp through a astroid. Makes perfect sense. But we can warp through planets and warp through a group of astroids if we are 10km away from them. Ok I DONT see anyones point here.
Now someone on here suggested the astroid is sucking me into a gravtational orbit that is going to cause my ship to do 12m/s. Could that possibly happen where my ship can push 3A/U's and I can't ******* get out a small astroid orbit? I mean come the **** on now. Im sure glad the NPC rats don't get stuck in orbit as I do. This is total bs.
Dono why im ranting but it's making feel good. Sure CCP/GM's don't really give a **** being people losing ships to lag and other moronic buggy stuff. I guess ill end it at that.

Yes, that is exactly what is happening.. I lost two Stabber cruisers to this effect before I figured out how what was happening and how to use it to my advantage.
OH, and VERY IMPORTANT.. if you find yourself in warp while stuck to an asteroid, that's when you hit the "Stop" button.. you know, they *** little button that looks like a Stop Sign for whatever reason. (PLEASE give us a new button, CCP..) That will cancel your warp and let you regain control of your ship.. to exit the gravity field, fly DIRECTLY AWAY from all very nearby objects.. if there are two right next to you, split the difference between them and fly that way.. once you break free and start regaining speed, let it run a couple seconds then try warp again.. should be good then.
>> This is total bs. I agree entirely.. I miss the old way where asteroids were totally hollow and you could fly through them. At the very least, make them solid without a gravity field.. I can only imagine how much lag these fields create in the belts..
>> Dono why im ranting but it's making feel >> good. Sure CCP/GM's don't really give a >> **** being people losing ships to lag and >> other moronic buggy stuff. I guess ill end >> it at that. I petitioned no less than 8 times over my two Stabber cruisers.. they basically told me "Sorry about your luck, @#$@ off." in a nutshell.
I took a 4 month vacation from EVE after that.. they effectively killed my zest for the game because I could replace the first, but the second broke me.. and both lost less than a week apart to the same crapass buggy change that should never have been added, and was not covered very well in it's release.. there should have been huge flashing warnings "DO NOT GET NEAR THE ASTEROIDS" :(
>> Im sure glad the NPC rats don't get stuck in >> orbit as I do. This is total bs. Actually they do.. which is what I was talking about above when I said use them to my advantage ;) It's very possible to get several missle-firing baddies stuck on the opposite side of an asteroid.. then as long as you can tank their turret damage and return fire with turrets only, you've got them ;)

if you get stuck on a roid, you press stop or ctrl-space, double click (manually fly) away from the roid, then once clear, engage warp again, same with stations.

Just for more refence second GM reply
Removed. See forum rule #8. -Elereth
------------- Glad to see the GM's are such experts on helping me out here. One says I can't go through it and the other says you can but not align up to warp through it. None have said anything about the orbit and why I was moving so slow. So thus dono if that's even the case now. Still don't know why my ship that is mainly not a "Fully manual operational" ship where I can press a key to make it do a barrel roll or turn around with more quickness. I can only double click on empty space and watch as my ship goes 12m/s and I die. Just makes no sense to me at all and im very upset due to the fact that this might happen to my Battleship. Course I can see how a big ass battleship would get stuck in a astroid orbit being those astroids have very strong pulls. Let me tell you what.

So basically you flew into an object and were to slow to react when you were obviously stuck on it...
The GMs are right here, it is part of the game mechanic lag has nothing to do with it (how could you even think of it as lag you were just going slow you weren't jerking about the screen and stuttering), next time just be a little more careful about where you fly. I wouldn't leave if I were you, so much more to this game than rat hunting in belts anyway, but leaving just cos you ****** up one time, come on give it a second try I'm sure you'll be fine in future. ------------------------------------------------ I've always owned Kehmor, cheap as chips off Ebay

So what.
I've lost 4 battleships, 2 in PvP and 2 due to getting stuck on roids.
And it makes perfect sence.
Of course you can't fly right through asteroids/stations/ships.

- We can! - We can warp through a astroid when we are flying in warp. We CAN WARP TRHOUGH A STATION when aligned up to go through the station in warp
- We cant! =( - We can't warp if the alignment is set to warp through a astroid if it is 500m away
And no it doesn't make sense why our power flying ships can't get out a astroid orbit. It does make sense why we couldn't orbit out of a planet not a small astroid. Think...

Good point about a message flashing up saying about warp being obscured, taht would be a nice feature.
But anyway ever seen Babulon 5? Warping in that you enter a kind of sub space where you go through solid objects, because technically you aren't even there. Think like that for warping in eve, makes the roses smell sweeter.
And another thing, why are you posting? Nothing we can say nor the devs can say will appease you, because you are right and anyone who says otherwise is wrong. ------------------------------------------------ I've always owned Kehmor, cheap as chips off Ebay

dont rub up on roids, they have a gravity well around them works better than a webber.
if this has happened before you should know better than to rub up on roids.
when i cover a mining op i will cuss people out for poor ship positioning, can positioning, all that. its just something you learn not to do.
if you cant stay away from the roids then you got a big problem.
oh and petitioning for anything in this game is like going to visit Santa Claus at the mall.

Thats a lie I got my caracal returned when I shot at a convoy in sentry range once...
