It's the capital ones that are broken. Neuts were fine until someone decided the capital one needed castration, now a single BS can solo a carrier under neut pressure which is rediculous.

No straight answer for this really, it depends what kind of vibe you're going for. Some will suggest a large nulsec power block like Goons or PL / Horde for quick income. Some will suggest a hisec training corp like EvE Uni to get your feet first....
